Chapter 373: Chapter 231: King of the Fallen Angels - Baimon!_1
Ivita lowered his gaze to the sword in his hand, which gave him a faint sense of threat, albeit not a severe one.
Ivita looked at the two knights and said to the two nervous men, "I am not an evil person."
"This is my castle, not a cave filled with evil creatures."
The young knight, Anatoly Bosporus, could barely hold his sword. The bandage on the sword was automatically cut by the blade, revealing the sharp tip pointed at Ivita.
Bosporus glanced at Ivita, then at the middle-aged knight, feeling somewhat at a loss.
He said to Ivita, "No, no, I don’t mean to provoke you, it’s the sword itself..."
The middle-aged knight muttered to Ivita, "I deeply apologize, Lord, for causing you trouble."
"It seems we have become unwanted people again. We will leave here immediately."
Bosporus, gripping his constantly shaking one-handed sword, followed the old knight out the door.
Tartax was stunned, taking a few steps after them. "What’s the situation?"
Ivita addressed the two knights who were in a hurry to leave, "Please wait a minute. I am not driving you away."
"Whether you are welcomed here should be determined by me, not by your own assumptions."
The two knights stopped and turned to look at Ivita.
The Bosporus knight smiled bitterly. "Lord, the Holy Sword only targets the most evil existences... You..."
The middle-aged knight’s gaze was cautious as he looked at Ivita, as if looking at a terrifying enemy. "My Lord..."
Ivita explained, "Recently, I fought a demon. Although I defeated it, I suspect the demon might continue to haunt me. So I seriously believe, the sword is not targeting me."
Ivita stepped forward, getting closer and closer to Bosporus.
Vampire Wilson’s pupils contracted and he quickly walked over, saying, "Lord, even if the sword isn’t aimed at you, you are a wizard after all. Your powers partially come from illicit sources and black magic. It would be better if you didn’t approach the sword."
In mid-sentence, the vampire approached the sword and was dazzled by the light reflected from it. He quickly retreated five or six steps, shockingly discovering his eyes were actually burned by the sunlight reflected from the sword.
Ivita glanced back at him and continued walking, reaching out to grasp the sword.
The Bosporus knight was horrified. "My Lord, this sword isn’t something that just anyone can grasp. Evil people cannot touch it, those with ulterior motives cannot touch it, those unqualified cannot touch it."
Next moment, Ivita took hold of the hilt of the sword.
Then he took the sword from the Bosporus knight who was staring in astonishment.
Ivita picked up the sword to examine it carefully. The sword seemed like an ordinary one-handed sword, but on the body of the sword, near the hilt, was an inscription: [Before I forged the perfect Holy Sword, this was my experimental work-Verlaine.]
Interestingly, once Ivita held the sword, it stopped shaking.
The middle-aged knight and Bosporus knight, could not help but be stunned.
The Bosporus knight, looking at the middle-aged knight, his face resembling that of someone just betrayed, said, "Father, why can he, a wizard lord, grasp the Holy Sword? Did you deceive me, is this just a common sword?"
The middle-aged knight shook his head. "Don’t talk nonsense."
He looked at Ivita with sharp eyes.
If Ivita was merely unafraid of this sword, it could only imply that Ivita was telling the truth, this sword was not targeting him, but the demon that continued to haunt him.
But being able to grasp the sword was a much larger issue. This indicated that Ivita, the lord, in acquiring his wizard powers, had never done anything unlawful.
All his power was obtained legally.
If everything was within the law, even evil black magical powers would be recognized as sacred.
This suggested that Ivita was a lord with assured moral character.
Vampire Wilson also widened his eyes.
Ivita, holding the sword, was not sure if he could banish the demon that had been harassing him by brandishing this sword as he doesn’t even know how the demon look like.
"This sword seems to be not an original. Can you tell me your story?"
The middle-aged knight stopped Bosporus, who wanted to take the sword back. "Lord Ivita, it is an honor to meet you."
"Indeed, this sword is not the original. Ha, if it were the original, how could we possibly have it with us."
"The real one should still be in the hands of The Church. It is a sword created by Verlaine, a legendary mage from the Ancient Times. It is said that the sword carries Saint Peter’s tooth, the blood of Saint Basil, the hair of Saint Denis and a piece of the dress of the Holy Mother Mary, as well as the milk tooth that the Saint Heir lost when he was teething."
"The legend has it that the Holy Sword can banish a demon with a mere wave."
"But it is said that Verlaine, in forging the ultimate sword of Angelic Light, in order to improve his skills, first created twelve worldly swords. The Holy Sword we hold is one of them. This sword is just an ordinary famous sword. But the original sword is a truly divine sword."
"In other words, our sword is a ’Shadow Sword’, a practice piece for the real Holy Sword."
Just from hearing what he said, Vampire Wilson retreated to the corner of the wall.
This is because the names of too many sacred relics were mentioned in the middle-aged knight’s words.
The warriors, the land-based ranger, and the two apprentice hunters were hearing about this news for the first time, so they were full of curiosity.
Ivita asked the middle-aged knight, "Named swords and divine swords? What ranking is that?"
The middle-aged knight bowed to Ivita and said, "Lord, this is a weapon title bestowed among us knights."
"Typically, powerful weapons are referred to by the knights as ’treasured swords’."
"Extremely rare blades are called ’named swords’ and those with a unique mission, as if part of the natural order, are deemed ’divine swords’."
"This terminology is the custom in the Magic Black Forest, so you might hear it less often in Ambros."
Ivita curled his lips.
This knight’s insinuation was that Ambros was a remote and impoverished place, so such terms had not spread here.
Cecilia, the Land-based Ranger, explained to her new lord, "There are only a handful of well-known divine swords. The divine sword these two knights speak of is likely the Sword of the Archangel, wielded by the first knight of Emperor Charlemagne. Legend has it that a great angel once descended to earth to bestow the Sword of the Archangel upon Roland, the first knight by Emperor Charlemagne’s side."
"Roland used that sword to slay Bael, a Demon King who descended upon the human world."
Ivita thoughtfully nodded. "You both brought this sword here because you heard I’m planning a sea voyage."
"But why would you need to take this sword across the sea with you?"
"Is there a problem with this sword?"
The middle-aged knight and Persopolis Knight glanced at each other and then showed bitter smiles.
The middle-aged knight said to Ivita, "Apologies, Lord. We initially planned to keep this information from you."
"In fact, I am not the father of the Lord of Persopolis, I am Burdo, merely an old servant of the Persopolis family. But the Persopolis family was eradicated twenty years ago. The ancient Viscounty of Persopolis mysteriously disappeared overnight, and the remaining territories were all divided by others."
"The reason for all this is in our hands, the ’Durandar’ - a Demon Sword."
Everyone recoiled.
Why was the shadow sword of the Holy Sword actually a Demon Sword?
As Ivita looked at him puzzled, Sir Burdo gave a bitter smile. "Most people only know about the sacred Sword of the Archangel that mage Weyland forged. Few are aware that the twelve swords he forged beforehand were each contaminated by the twelve Demon Kings, turning them into twelve individual Demon Swords."
"Our Demon Sword, twenty years ago, took control of a fourth-tier Superior Knight and ruthlessly slaughtered the entire Persopolis family mansion, causing the Persopolis family to lose control of their territories."
Ivita asked, "If it’s a Demon Sword, why does it react to evil and is specifically aimed against evil?"
Ivita was speechless.
I thought I could use this sword to help me deal with the ’we’ demons, but who knew your sword was a product of the Demon King.
Sir Burdo, scared, watched as Ivita handled the sword, "That’s because this is a sword contaminated by Beimon, the King of Fallen Angels, who is one of the seventy-two Demon Gods responsible for knowledge and sanctity. He abhors evil with extreme predilection, detesting twisted punishment."
"From what we have learned from books and documents over the past twenty years, some of the power controlled by Beimon represents disproportionate punishment for mistakes. It symbolizes uncontrollable severe punishment."
"Therefore, ’Durandar’ launches destructive attacks on any evil entity that approaches it, even if that evil entity has repented and corrected its ways."
"Because of this sword, our family has gained a notorious reputation, and no one wants to associate with us anymore. But it’s a hereditary named sword; we can’t just abandon it. So we want to take it to Cross Island to find a place that can store this sword without posing a threat to others."
"Lord Ivita, that’s our plan."
Vampire Wilson complained to Sir Burdo, "I’m a victim here. I merely approached it, and my eyes were scorched."
"That’s really too much."
Sir Burdo remained silent.
Ivita glanced at him. This creature was no innocent victim. Just a little while ago, he was still forcing a group of witches and dark creatures to go to the cemetery to meet their deaths.
But the combat strength of those two official knights was quite formidable, and they even had a Demon Sword to enhance their combat power.
Regardless of the evil of this Demon Sword, however wicked the Demon Sword was, it was not worse than the mishmash world of pirates.
In the world of pirates, what mattered was not what power you used; being strong was enough, being useful was enough.
Ivita made a judgment that keeping these two people would be beneficial for him, but he needed to negotiate the price.
He nodded and said to the two, "I’ll employ you."
"Give your sword back."
"These are small matters. If I find a problem with the sword, I can kick you off the ship anytime. For now, your salary should be halved like Miss Ranger’s. Is that okay?"
The Persopolis Knight and Sir Burdo quickly nodded in agreement.
"Thank you, Lord Ivita. It’s our honor to accompany you to Cross Island."
"Yes, we appreciate it. We understand that most people wouldn’t dare to travel with us given our circumstances."
Ivita addressed the crowd, "Everyone can take some much-needed rest during this period and prepare some changes of clothes. We will be setting sail soon."
Seeing Ivita about to leave, everyone who was sitting stood up and watched him leave.
