Chapter 295: Chapter 193 Dragon Palace Magic versus Thousand-Year Fire, a Direct Conflict!_1
When Maximilian brought Ivita to the wilderness, only then did she understand the terrible thing he claimed to have done.
They came across three Black Bear Men who were feasting on a beehive they had dug up from somewhere. Honey dribbled from the corners of their mouths as they ate. Seeing the honey in their hands, Maximilian’s stomach immediately started grumbling loudly, and saliva uncontrollably poured from his mouth.
With an angry roar, he startled the three clueless Bearmen causing them to drop the beehive.
Maximilian charged towards them on all fours, picked up a hive and began devouring it with big, biting jaw movements.
Ivita finally realized what the terrible thing he was referring to.
Turns out, Maximilian had transformed three humans into Black Bear Men.
Arching an eyebrow, Ivita waited until Maximilian finished eating, then pointing at the three Black Bear Men she asked: "What happened to them?"
The size difference between these three Black Bear Men and Maximilian was noticeable. Although Maximilian’s size could be described as that of a small monster, these newly transformed individuals were only about the height and size of average adult men.
Unlike Maximilian, who had distinctive white stripes on his four limbs, they were all entirely black.
The three Black Bear Men warily hovered over the fallen beehive, as though scared Ivita would snatch the remaining honey away.
Slapping a hand to her forehead, Ivita asked incredulously, "Do Black Bear Men really have such a hankering for honey?"
Scratching the back of his head, Maximilian replied in a deep, resonant voice, "I was once a black bear too, but ever since True Love’s Kiss broke the curse cast by the Red Queen, I feel like I’ve been reborn into a new race. This might be the difference between a simple cursed beast and a member of the Night Transformers. Now I just can’t resist the allure of honey, and everything else tastes like wax."
"Those Bear Cubs are the same."
Maximilian went on, "They used to be homeless people in the city, and after the witches in the wolf pack summoned the full moon, I, too, felt its effects. After Kristin left, I brought Jenny back to the castle."
"Then when I came out again, I seemed to have lost my mind."
"Under the radiance of the full moon, I believe my body swelled once again, and I swallowed those three people whole. When I regained my senses and shrank back to my normal size, I found out that I had spat these three out, and they had turned into Black Bear Men."
Raising an eyebrow, Ivita deduced that members of the Black Bear race transformed humans by swallowing them and then spitting them out.
However, the wolf pack possessed a conversion limit. Could the Black Bear Men reproduce indefinitely by digesting and expelling individuals?
Furrowing her brows, Ivita speculated, "You were probably influenced by the full moon, meaning you may lose your sanity again during the next full moon and convert more humans."
"I can chain myself up when that happens," Maximilian retorted, scratching his head. "But it seems I can only transform a maximum of three humans into Black Bear Men at a time."
"And I’ve tested it just now, these little guys cannot convert humans into Black Bear Men by swallowing them, because their bodies can’t enlarge as mine can."
"They just can’t do it."
Upon hearing this, Ivita abruptly comprehended that only Maximilian, the progenitor Black Bear Man, could convert humans, and only three at a time during each full moon.
That means a maximum of thirty-six new Black Bear Men could emerge in a year.
The speed of their reproduction was quite slow.
Moreso, the newly transformed Black Bear Men appeared to lack combat strength since they could not convert humans, and their physical capabilities were nothing extraordinary.
Ivita suggested conducting physical and ability tests on the three newly transformed Black Bear Men. After about an hour, she found that although they are superior to average humans, they were indeed far weaker than the knight attendants.
Added to this, the three Black Bear Men had no combat experience, probably an attendant knight could defeat them multiple times over.
Moreover, they could not employ the racial skill - The Black Bear Roar.
While Ivita was conducting the tests on the three bear cubs, Maximilian added "I feel like my after the last full moon, my four limbs have become stronger. However, I’m not sure if that’s just my imagination."
Ivita stirred at the words and immediately looked up at the moon in the sky.
She thought of the Red Queen’s curse and murmured to herself, "Slowly losing one’s human dignity... this means that your power as a beast will gradually increase, overpowering the human side of you. After this full moon, you’re feeling your strength rise, maybe this isn’t your illusion, but the truth."
Ivita said to Maximilian, "From my perspective, your Black Bear Men might become stronger with each full moon."
"So that explains why these three cubs are so weak."
"Because as Bearmen, they have not experienced many full moons, but you are different, you have remained in the bear state for decades."
"Moreover, the curse of the Red Queen for you to consort with the beasts, is probably the one that grants you the ability to transform humans into Black Bear Men."
Ivita realized that if Maximilian had lived for hundreds of years, the power amassed by him being the progenitor of Black Bear Men would be immeasurable.
Maximilian perked his bear ears up. "That makes sense."
"Your words are very reasonable, no wonder these three Black Bear Men look weak, I thought my race was always this weak."
Ivita, with her head down in thought, ventured, "I guess that the line of the Black Bear Men progenitor should all have the ability to transform into Black Bear Men. Perhaps your future descendants will have the power to transform into Black Bear Men, but it’s uncertain whether the bloodline left by the humans who mate with your descendants would inherit this ability."
"Moreover, their transformation efficiency would likely be many times lower than yours."
"But we’ll leave it to time and history to verify."
Ivita stated.
Maximilian clapped continuously, this large black bear clapping its paws was a comical sight, he said, "It was right to invite you."
"Ivita, you’re so smart."
"So how do we control our transformations?"
Ivita sighed, "To control your rage, your strength as Black Bear Men comes from your rage, if you want to control your transformation, you must control your rage."
"Let me teach you a set of wellness punches."
The bear eyes of the four Black Bear Men were all fixed on Ivita, their eyes brimming with anticipation.
Ivita demonstrated a set of punches in front of them, the four Black Bear Men imitated her. Watching the muscular arms of these four Black Bear Men swing round incessantly, Ivita suddenly felt like laughing.
Of course, this set of punches had no offensive effect, it was just to help them divert their attention to other things.
As Maximilian practiced Tai Chi, he gradually lost himself to the rhythm, then his heart calmed down.
But it was different for the other Black Bear Men.
A Black Bear tried hard to squat but accidentally fell. He instinctively reached out for the Black Bear Man next to him and the other bear fell too. The second bear managed to catch the third bear before he fell, and finally all three Black Bear Men toppled over.
Three Black Bear Men got angry, a wave of bear roars ensued, all of them enraged, the three Black Bear Men started a skirmish.
Maximilian watched the three bears helplessly. Ironically, he was returning to his human form slowly as he focused on the punches.
"Have I not adopted three sons?" Maximilian sarcastically remarked to Ivita.
Seeing no reaction from Ivita, he turned around to look at her only to find her pupils dilated, as if terrified by something.
Ivita mumbled to herself. "This crimson flame is..."
"There’s an issue with the Dragon Palace Magic, the Thousand-Year Fire is in direct conflict with my Dragon Palace Magic."
