Chapter 177: Chapter 130 - Beastman Slave Trader_1
After Pan God left, he didn’t forget to close the window for Ivita.
However, Ivita saw the hoof prints left by the window, and she couldn’t fall asleep anymore.
It was impossible for her to sleep peacefully after an enemy had prowled around her bedroom.
Not long after, a knock was heard from the wooden door, and only now did the Old Witch call out from outside, "Your Majesty, are you alright?"
"I just sensed a very evil, unprecedented power."
"Why has that power disappeared?"
"Your Majesty, are you still alive... "
The Old Witch came in and saw Ivita sitting by the bed. Ivita looked at the Old Witch speechlessly, no wonder Pan God and she made such a big commotion earlier, but the witch, who was staying in the neighbouring room, didn’t have any reaction.
So, you were hiding.
Now that she saw him leave, you came over pretending you were working.
Forget it, Ivita forgave the Old Witch.
After all, she’s just a witch; she’s too timid.
She should have expected the witch’s temperament.
The Old Witch probably felt guilty, so she shut up under Ivita’s gaze and closed the door quietly.
The next morning, Ivita found herself having not slept a wink and suffering no effects from it.
The powerful physical constitution of wizards allowed them to go without sleep for many days and nights without any impact.
Ivita remembered the message Pan God had left behind last night, so she found the Old Witch, and they headed to the market in Parviga together.
The Old Witch chattered nonstop along the way. "Your Majesty, didn’t we agree to leave Parviga this morning?"
"The luggage, I have prepared it."
"Does your sudden change of plans have anything to do with someone breaking into your bedroom last night?"
On the way, Ivita suddenly asked, "Hearthstone Witch, do you have any magic or magical items that can protect someone while they sleep?"
After a moment of thought, the Old Witch replied, "I don’t."
"I don’t have such a thing. Because my Plant Magic can serve a similar function."
"So I didn’t pay attention to this kind of information."
"Alright," Ivita sighed. He took the Old Witch into the market.
The market was still bustling. A clown riding a unicycle was constantly making faces at Ivita.
Ever since Ivita first entered Parviga, this guy had been trying to amuse her, but Ivita always passed him without a word.
This discouraged the clown.
The Old Witch suddenly turned her head and glared at the clown with an eye sharper and more fierce than that of a hawk. "Do you want to die by bothering me?"
"No, no, no... I just want to give you a good performance." The clown was so frightened that his legs buckled, and he lost his balance, falling to the ground.
The Old Witch glared at him in warning not to cause trouble.
However, when Hearthstone Witch turned back, she found Ivita had gone far ahead and hurriedly followed. "Your Majesty, wait for me."
"Wait for me."
At this time, Ivita came to a stall she hadn’t seen in her two previous trips to the market.
The stall was set up like a long dragon.
There were dozens of iron cages in this stall, each cage containing some people.
Most of the slaves in it looked like humans, but they all had characteristics not seen in humans. For example, some men’s ears were like those of a wolf, some women had a fox’s tail on their backs, or rabbit ears.
A middle-aged man in front of these cages raised a whip at least three meters long, whipped it forcefully to the ground, and made a sound like a firecracker. "Come and see, these are beastmen from the other side of the sea who believe in different gods."
"There are fox people and rabbit people, come and see."
"I’m a wandering merchant - Jackson. Today I came to your city of Parviga. Come and see the goods I brought from another world."
"Just looking is free, don’t leave, stay and look."
"Next, I’ll let this fox woman perform a ring of fire jump for you."
Already quite a few people had gathered around this stall, looking at these oddities.
Ivita squeezed into the crowd and saw that so-called merchant Jackson had a fox woman by the neck with a chain and was brandishing a whip as thick as a thumb, hitting the fox woman’s buttocks.
The fox woman was swearing at Jackson in a language Ivita didn’t understand. The only reason she knew it was swearing was from her expression.
Beastmen from across the sea?
Actually, these Beastmen were very similar to humans, aside from some details of their bodies that differed from humans, basically, they were human.
Since they could speak, they were also an intelligent race.
Ivita even suspected that this was a subspecies of human.
He even suspected that these human subspecies were the result of the Druids’ experiments, or the civilization supported by the ancient Druids was the civilization of these Beastmen.
That’s not right.
Pan God once said that the people of the civilization they supported were much taller than present-day humans.
The fox girl, pressured by the merchant, could only reluctantly get on all fours and then struggle to jump through the ring of fire.
Every time she jumped through a fire ring, the merchant would raise its height by a centimeter, which caused her to become more and more desperate.
The fox girl was even screaming in a foreign language with her hoarse voice, presumably calling out for help.
But the Ambros people near her were all retreating as if she were some kind of monster.
The fox girl lay on the ground, curling up into a ball. Ivita thought she was crying. However, as soon as the merchant approached her, she suddenly raised her head and stood up. Her face took on a terrifying blue hue and her mouth opened wide - wide enough to fit a basketball.
Her mouth was all filled with teeth growing in the opposite direction.
The fox girl knocked the merchant over onto an iron railing. A rabbit-girl inside the cage behind him suddenly grew red eyes, morphing from a weak and feeble creature into a beast hammering its fists against the iron cage.
Under this pincer attack, the merchant’s warrior-servants stabbed at the Beastmen with pitchforks and looped ropes around their throats, dragging them backwards.
With this, Jackson could finally crawl out.
He looked at the fox girl, restrained by his men, slapped his clothes to straighten them, and then scanned the surrounding Ambros people.
The sight scared the Ambros people causing them to constantly retreat.
"These Beastmen are not normal," some knowledgeable people shouted in the crowd. "They’ve caught the Madness Disease from Dragonstone Island! They’re all infected. This swindling merchant must have passed through Dragonstone Island on his journey."
"Otherwise, why would he be selling these slaves at such a cheap price here in Parviga? Parviga has no slave-owning tradition. If he’s selling them here, it surely means he can only sell them cheap."
Jackson inwardly cursed.
Now his plan was ruined.
All because of that savage woman.
Jackson glared at the fox girl who by now had sobered up. She knew that she had gone into Madness State again. But, seeing as it already happened, she didn’t care anymore.
She defiantly locked eyes with the merchant.
Just when the merchant didn’t know what to do, Ivita suddenly stepped forward. "Esteemed ’Parvigian’ merchant, I am Ivita, the Guild Leader of the Parviga Blacksmith Guild."
Jackson immediately turned to look at her. Even though Ivita’s age surprised him, this was the Guild Leader of the most important Blacksmith Guild in Parviga.
He immediately put on a smile. "I am Jackson, a wandering merchant, specializing in slaves."
"Please don’t misunderstand; I seldom sell human slaves."
"Even if I do, they are usually from the lowliest of places."
"In summary, I am a businessman with principles."
Ivita raised an imperceptible smirk. What sort of person would insist they had principles right off the bat?
Getting straight to the point, Ivita asked, "Someone recommended you saying that you have a mirror worth more than a hundred pounds of gold. I am interested in purchasing it."
The Ambros people standing near Ivita, who were spectating the Beastman slaves in the cages, all fell silent and looked at her.
What kind of mirror would be worth one hundred gold pounds?
Is it made of solid gold?
At first, Jackson’s face lit up with joy. Then, he seemed to think of something, and his good mood vanished immediately. He put on a stern face, "Sir, I don’t have the mirror you mentioned."
"No place in the world sells such an expensive mirror."
Ivita realized that this guy was lying.
When she first mentioned wanting to buy, Jackson immediately showed his excitement. However, he quickly put on a stern face. Had she said something wrong to make him change his tune so suddenly?
The old witch was furious. "His feeble lie wouldn’t even fool a child."
She grabbed him by the collar and pulled him close, causing Jackson to shout out in pain while his hired hands started gathering around them.
"Tell me the truth!" The old witch bellowed.
Jackson immediately raised his hand to block his employees from coming over. He recognized the old woman as a witch, which in turn made him relax a bit. "Wait, stop pulling on me."
"I thought you were sent by the Countess of Candy House."
"I stole that mirror from Candy House."
"As well as some other items. I’ve been living in fear, afraid the owner might find me wanting recompense. How would I even afford to recompense them?"
"Then why have you changed your mind now?" Ivita asked.
Jackson explained, "Because the Countess of the Candy House would never employ other witches."
"She has this extreme paranoia where anyone entering the Candy House would be turned into candy. So, even her colleagues cannot escape. Over time, she became a recluse."
"And she doesn’t like leaving Candy House, so she always deals with things through her minions."
