Chapter 465: It wasn’t her fault

"Who are you?" Cedric managed to say without his voice breaking.

The lady pulled away, she could not hold his gaze. Cedric noticed how tensed up she became with her eyes wandering around. She was nervous. Her lips parted but nothing came out.

She looked exactly like the painting. She looked so much like him, it answered the question of what Cedric would look like if he were a woman.

He drew in a deep breath then swallowed. "Please just tell me," he begged. She nodded, and a shaky voice answered. " The woman who gave you life." She answered.

Cedric backed away shaking her head. "Impossible, my mother is long dead." He blurted staring at the woman who claimed to be his mother

A lady who could be mistaken for his sister due to the striking resemblance. She didn’t look anything close to thirty.

"I am sorry, I didn’t mean for things to be this way. I understand if you are not ready to accept me, but I am the woman who gave birth to you, although I don’t qualify as your mother." She replied, her voice was smooth.

"No mother abandoned their child." She added. Cedric hissed and a sharp pain struck his head. Her voice echoed in his head, and the next thing, everything went dark; her panic screams were the last thing he heard.

*****

A soft humming tune rang through the walls. A tired groan escaped his lips and he stirred away. Cedric’s eyes fluttered open, and his eyes fell on the family ceiling of the room he woke up in earlier

The humming grew louder, and my head slowly turned in the direction of the sound. A figure sat by the window, and Azrael was staring blankly at the night sky, humming in the distance.

His voice filled the room, and it was weirdly soothing to his ears. Cedric managed to sit up. His body felt much lighter this time around. Azrael’s ears perked at the ruffling sounds

He slowly turned to Cedric and their dark eyes met. He tilted his head and then laughed. "The sleeping beauty finally woke up. With the way you look alike, I feel you were meant to be the girl. Having a girl here would have been fun." Azrael laughed, then made fun of Cedric’s feminine-like features.

Cedric glared at him, his glare was more amusing like a child throwing a tantrum. Cedric sighed, turning away from Azreal’s smirk. He was infuriating to endure

"You are annoying," Cedric grumbled massaging his forehead. Azrael struggled and then stalked towards the bed. "I can’t help it, seeing people pissed makes me happy," Azrael said.

Cedric sighed, "Is what she said true? Is she the one who saved me?" He asked Azrael

Azrael’s eyes flickered. "She is the reason you had life in the first place and the reason you are still alive." He explained.

"I didn’t find out about what happened to you earlier. That’s just excuses, but when I did hear whispers of your condition, I told her about you. You can’t imagine the shock and the way she rushed over, if she were a moment late, you would have been dead by now." Azrael explained then turned towards the door.

"Why didn’t she appear before me until I was close to death? She never showed up even once during all these years." He asked, and Azrael stopped.

He didn’t glance behind; his face was dark. Cedric didn’t see this or notice the way his hand secretly clenched in his long sleeves.

"You weren’t the only one left in the dark and everyone would probably be left in that way if I hadn’t stumbled on your path." He answered then finally glanced at Cedric with a soft smile.

"Please be kind to her, the more upset she is the more difficult everyone’s life here will be. The maid will prepare you for dinner and everyone will be waiting. Make sure to make a good impression like your life depends on it." He chimed then stepped out of the room before adding.

"Because your survival actually does." Cedric heard him. Azrael was aware of his sharp hearing, he should have. Cedric’s brow furrowed.

A group of maids were waiting outside the room. Once Azrael stepped out, they all bowed and then rushed inside. The door was closed.

The hallway was empty except for another figure standing in the hallway, leaning against the wall. "Why are you being so nice to him? It isn’t your style, or is this one of your schemes? Dear God of deceit?" The person sneered.

They didn’t bother about Cedric overhearing them. A sound barrier was already around them. "No one calls me that, after all, you all call me the demon of death. Unlike you, my dear brother, I am actually not a bully. I can be nice if I want to."

The other man scoffed, he had hair shining like gold with eyes like rubies. "I don’t trust you, nor do I trust him. Especially when you are acting nice." He scoffed. He moved away from the wall, and his gold hair danced to the side.

He was entrancing, his face also eerily similar to Cedric’s. He didn’t look feminine, but devastatingly handsome. He crossed his hands across his chest, his eyes boring into Azrael, who didn’t fret under his gaze.

"Why are you so grumpy? Are you scared you won’t be the favourite again Javiel?" Azrael scoffed and then turned around to leave

"Mind your tone Azrael. Don’t forget I am older than you." Javiel scoffed. Glanced over his shoulder and smiled sweetly.

"That’s why I am fleeing from your wrath. See you at dinner." Azrael chimed and then disappeared. Javiel stood at the door struck for the moment. He glanced at the door. He didn’t believe he was going to be forced into this

Javiel scoffed and then also disappeared from the spot.

A couple of minutes later Cedric was done and led out by the maid. He didn’t know what he was going to uncover during this dinner, but he knew the questions he had would soon be answered..

What was his connection to this place, and why did some people want him dead?
