Chapter 994: Volume 32 Dark Clouds Envelop Chapter 12 Strangulation

You can never imagine what it looks like when over ten thousand robust men, each towering over two meters tall, run desperately on the ground. If you must describe it using a relatively accurate phrase, it can only be said to be like a herd of mad bison furiously charging across the prairie in one direction—and this charge lasted for more than an hour.

The pervasive yellow dust in the sky, even to the always apprehensive Yale, signaled that something was amiss, but he never anticipated that his opponent would resort to such a method to achieve their goal. The battle had reached a fever pitch, and the Homer Knight Order was barely holding on, but the harassment from the sky proved to be a constant headache to Yale.

Those damned Thunder Peng Knights continued to cause trouble. He had originally thought that they were the only support of the Homer Knight Order, but the appearance of more than a dozen Earthwalking Dragons suddenly emerging from the valley seriously frightened the steeds of the Attica Knights, and even the Mundell warhorses under the cavalry were affected to a certain extent. Thankfully, the intensity of the battle made all of this seem insignificant.

The addition of two unexpected factors slowed down the collapse of the Homer Knight Order’s defense line. That fellow Lecler took the opportunity to tighten the defense and abandon some critical positions, which worsened their situation, yet it also gave them a moment to catch their breath. Yale did not believe that by stubbornly resisting, they would end up with any favorable outcome. He had even prepared for the possibility of the enemy’s surrender.

But the rolling yellow dust in the distance made him realize that the problem might not be that simple. Although he was still unclear about what the yellow dust signified, he could not believe that his scouts and the intelligence system would fail to discern whether the opponent had cavalry forces. If that were the case, then Attica would have been claiming unwarranted uniqueness in the Northern Alliance.

When groups of sweaty Barbarian Berserkers formed small square formations and flaunted their well-developed muscles in front of the Attican, when snarling Half-Beastmen proudly strode forward with their bronze-skinned chests out, Yale’s thought process nearly stalled. What was going on? Where did these barbarians and Half-Beastmen come from? They were supposed to be at least ten miles away, which meant they should have taken more than an hour to appear on the Battlefield. Yet here they were, baring their teeth and claws right before him?

While Yale’s thought process came to a halt, Baoling did not give the enemy any chance to reflect. Knowing full well that the Half-Beastmen and barbarians were also extremely exhausted, Baoling could not afford to let them rest for even a second. The Homer Knight Order had already suffered tremendous losses, and continuing to fight was the extent of their capability. Perhaps with just a bit more pressure, the Homer Knights would collapse, and the Half-Beastmen and barbarians could not afford to rest either. Once their momentum subsided, it would take hours to build it back up.

At this moment, they could only clench their teeth and push forward; completely breaking the enemy before them was the only way out!

Groups of three or five Barbarians or Half-Beastmen just organized themselves in front of Yale, forming one small formation after another, one small cluster after another—wielding Javelins and Spears, swinging Giant clubs and shields. They surged toward them like streams running wildly down a hillside.

The Attican, caught by this sudden blunt blow, had not anticipated such a situation. A duel between the Cavalry Knights had turned into a melee of both infantry and cavalry. The originally dominant Cavalry Force found itself at a sudden disadvantage in this kind of terrain, where the chaotic and irregular terrain became a nightmare for the Attica Cavalry.

Groups of three or five Barbarian Berserkers furiously circled and attacked the Attica Cavalry. Their swift movements and almost desperate attacks, combined with the convenience of geographic advantage, left the Attica Cavalry almost helpless in the face of such asymmetrical attacks. The Attica Cavalry could only helplessly circle their horses, swinging machetes in an attempt to fend off the oncoming assaults. In the absence of maneuverability and speed, it was a profoundly agonizing thing for the Light Armor Cavalry to confront infantry.

Yale watched helplessly as his squad of Light Armor Cavalry fell to the ground in just a few rounds under the siege of the opponent’s small-scale attack formations, with not even a chance to escape. Those damned Barbarians and Half-Beastmen had already sealed off every possible exit, using their Javelins and Spears skillfully to pin down his meticulously trained Cavalry Soldiers like skewered calabashes.

Chaotic but methodical, ferocious without losing a sense of direction—that was the conclusion Yale reached from his observations. It was evident that these Half-Beastmen and Barbarians were inherently skilled at this type of wild battlefield entanglement. At the same time, it was clear that these Barbarian and Half-Beastmen Warriors were all well-trained soldiers, especially the commanders within those small-scale attack units. They were strikingly efficient at following orders, advancing and retreating in an orderly fashion. While his own Cavalry were far more flexible and adaptable than the rigid and dogmatic Knights, they were still significantly outmatched by these more ferocious Barbarian warriors, especially since the differences in troop types and the terrain meant that his Cavalry could not leverage their advantages and instead got firmly bogged down in the quagmire, which infuriated and frustrated Yale immensely.

Under such circumstances, the wisest choice should be to quickly withdraw his Cavalry. Yale knew that issuing this order at this time would be very difficult, and it could even bring him perilous consequences. Abandoning those poor Knights to struggle out of the hands of those Barbarians was a painful and helpless decision to make.

Baoling watched the battle unfolding before him with excitement. It seemed that the enemy was getting desperate. The Attica Knights being deep in the thick of it meant that their superior Cavalry couldn’t disengage either. Their Heavy Armored Cavalry were already making preparations to retreat, but their Light Armor Cavalry were delayed in doing so. Clearly, the Commander was under immense pressure from the Knight leaders, and this stalemate was most advantageous for Baoling’s side.

The enemy was trying to extricate themselves, but at this point, it seemed a bit too late for that. Baoling looked at the enemy with some pity. To kill a snake, one must strike at its vitals, and to kill a venomous snake, one must do so with a single blow lest it bite back. The Attican at this moment were just so, they had to be completely overpowered for his side to rest easy. (To be continued, if you want to know what happens next, please visit www.qidian.com.
