Chapter 950: Volume 30 Beginning of the Empire Chapter 21 Gathering of Beasts

Everything seemed to vanish with the aftermath of an intense battle, Even Komer hadn’t expected the woman’s mind to change so rapidly and without warning, much like a novice in love, Klepper’s unpredictable attitude left Komer without certainty in his heart, yet an intuition told Komer that this woman’s hostility towards him wasn’t as strong as imagined.

Komer had thought he might use the point of her deflowering as leverage against the Female Priest of the Olympus Temple, who was bound to remain chaste, to make her serve his needs, but he was somewhat uncertain. Gaining someone’s service willingly was of course more delightful, but that aspect was too difficult to achieve.

As for the strategy to conquer Sparta, Komer hadn’t yet considered it maturely. Regarding the dominions of Sparta and Collins in the Southern Mediterranean, how to shake their status and destabilize their foundations required a long-term strategy and plan. Komer wasn’t in a hurry to achieve obvious results, after all, his own foundation in the Southern Mediterranean Region was relatively weak, and although Hayreddin was actively managing and the situation was rapidly changing, his power on land was still not solid enough to directly challenge Sparta and Collins rashly.

Once he tasted the marrow, having experienced Klepper’s full devotion, Komer truly understood the flavor of a woman. Compared to the others, Klepper’s passion burst forth more fiercely than any other’s, making Komer wonder what kind of emotion had once existed between Zellin and this woman, causing such long-persisting feelings to be so intensely poured out, nearly drowning and swallowing him whole.

As Klepper nestled in Komer’s arms and recounted her past love bit by bit, Komer couldn’t help but feel pain for the once naive and steadfast girl. Such fervent and sincere emotions had been met with nothing but ruthless abandonment, merely for political reasons. With Zellin’s status, giving such a girl a status whereby she could live and die for him shouldn’t have been difficult, it was merely for fear of affecting the impression of the Vassal lords in his territory that he could so readily cut sentimental ties, leaving Even Komer, a veteran in the political quagmire, unsure if Zellin’s actions were appropriate.

But one thing was certain, this woman was not as inscrutable and complex as imagined, at least in matters of affection she was much cleaner and purer than many. While pondering in silence, Komer also contemplated how to deal with such an absurd emotional entanglement in the most satisfying way possible.

When Komer set off to return to the Caucasus, Klepper offered no additional words, but her deep and fervent gaze made Komer realize he might have really provoked someone he shouldn’t have.

However, upon further thought, even if Klepper disregarded everything to come to the Caucasus, it wouldn’t be a bad thing. At least, he would have another strong figure by his side, someone who could even overshadow Vladimir Koff and Solonberg. As the conflicts with the Church of Light deepened and the potential for direct conflict grew, particularly against the despicable folks of the Court, he needed more such powerful figures who could be ready for Combat at any moment. If Klepper could truly be as loyally protective as Shatima, standing guard by his side, then it would indeed be a significant gain from this trip to the Southern Mediterranean.

Of course, Komer also hoped that Klepper could maintain her current special status. If ever there came a day when he and the Kingdom of Sparta were irreconcilably at odds, such a force emerging suddenly could indeed deliver a fatal blow.

The early winter snow fell thick and fast, covering Cartin City in a solemn snowy landscape. Five-needle pines and spruce trees stood side by side along the streets. The somewhat dirty streets, although cloaked in a thick blanket of snow, immediately revealed their dark true nature once horse-drawn carriages passed over, mixing mud and trash, and thus making the entire streetscape seem disordered and messy.

Katya stood by the window, silently observing the street scene outside. The goose-yellow curtains were pulled back almost completely, and the orange flames in the fireplace bathed the entire living room in warmth. The heat spread throughout the room, making one want to take off their coat as soon as they entered.

Her elegant, pristine neck was like that of a freshly bathed swan, her head held high with pride. Every strand of hair was combed to sleek perfection, and her trailing velvet evening gown seamlessly blended with the woolen carved carpet beneath her feet. From both behind and the side, Katya at that moment resembled a piece of art brimming with life, harmonious and perfect in appearance.

The wood in the fireplace cracked and popped, adding a lively touch to the tranquil atmosphere. The room was as warm as spring, but Katya’s mood was as cold and biting as the snowy landscape outside the window.

Those people were really too much!

The Atticans, the Cretans, and the Church of Light—not a single one of them was decent. Katya felt an inexplicable sadness within her. It wasn’t that no one had warned her; the feigned assistance of those people was a bait wrapped in sweet sugar, which once swallowed would make it difficult to escape. Yet, she always fantasized that these people would come to distribute rewards after the success of her endeavors.

She seemed to have forgotten that these people were not the vassal lords of the Romanov family. They were a group of wolves, eyes gleaming, ever-ready to partake in the spoils of Nicosia, a juicy piece of meat!

Riding a tiger, hard to dismount, wishing to stop but unable to. That was Katya’s current state of mind and situation. Of course, it couldn’t be said that these people were entirely useless. At least, their collective martial power objectively halted further invasion possibilities from the forces in the East. Damn it, all of these calamities were brought about by Komer, that insatiable crocodile.

Katya felt as if she were among a pack of wild beasts with red eyes, their breath so close it seemed to touch her body, their greedy panting almost audible to each other. Behind her were the wolves of the Northern Alliance, above was the Beastmen, a fierce tiger choosing its prey, and in front was Komer, the crocodile still licking its lips with sharp teeth, while eagles from the Church of Light circled above, looking for the best part to strike. A bunch of beasts!

The crocodile wanted to swallow her whole, while the wolves wished to tear off her flesh bit by bit. The tiger’s belly was almost done digesting its meal, and the hungry eagles were searching for the best spots to attack. A group of beasts and birds of prey!
