Chapter 911: Volume 29, The Distant Pointing Sword Qi, Chapter 5, Murderous Aura_tEEMING
Jack Mason was filled with envy at Komer’s performance. Deep down, he actually preferred that his rival was sharper and more acerbic, as it would bring some balance to his own feelings.
Having Tracy plucked away by that guy was like a thorn stuck in his heart. Even though knightly honor forbade him from stooping to petty actions, the fact that the guy had risen so rapidly in the Caucasus to become one of the most powerful people in The Kingdom of Nicosia, even trampling Philip underfoot, was something he had to admire.
Komer’s magnanimity left him speechless. When Vladimir Koff sought him out, he had never thought about pledging loyalty to anyone. The concept of the Black Flame Knights, while appealing, didn’t hold much allure for Jack. The only reason he had dragged Morssen and Peter into this was to see what kind of performance the self-proclaimed Liberator of Nicosia, Komer, would put on when faced with an assassin like himself. However, his rival’s demeanor had thoroughly deflated him. Facing such a formidable opponent, Jack knew he had no power to retaliate.
Watching the somewhat despondent retreat of the three Fallen Knights, Komer couldn’t help but smirk. The leading Fallen Knight acted as if he bore a deep grudge over a wife stolen, like a porcupine with its quills standing on end, ready to explode at a touch. It was amusing. The actions dictated by fealty were not worth pursuing. As for the Black Flame Knights being joined by these individuals, it was a significant first step. After all, the capabilities of these three individuals could still be considered top-notch.
All was ready, it was just a matter of starting the show. Komer cast his gaze into the distance, full of anticipation. He was eager to see how the Galleian would counter the beastmen’s provocation. Once this step was taken, there would be no turning back, and he too would have to join the dance.
The Berserker Warriors were starting to buckle under the relentless, brutal assaults of the Nirvana Knights.
It was clearly a trap, one that had been meticulously designed.
The Wolf Cavalry and the Deer Cavalry were firmly held at bay by the resilient defensive lines constructed by the Galle Infantry. No matter how fiercely the Wolf Cavalry charged and cut their way through, the Galle Infantry, at great cost, stubbornly kept them outside the enclosing circle. At this time, the Deer Cavalry also exerted all their effort to attempt a flanking maneuver to break through the Galle Infantry’s defensive line, but the pre-positioned Mobile Chain Cars crippled their mobility advantage. No matter where they went, those stacked chain cars, linked by iron chains, formed a moving blockade line. The Deer Cavalry charged left and right to no avail, while the encircled Berserker Warriors faced a baptism like a torrential downpour.
The Galle Mage Group erupted with their mightiest fighting force, perfectly combining Thunder Magic and Earth Magic Array. A sweeping thunderstorm battered the Berserker Warriors overhead. Despite a brief initiation through magical baptism, when faced with such wild thunderstorm strikes, the Berserker Warriors were thrown into disarray, their originally tight formation finally crumbling under the onslaught of Heavenly Divine Power. The Nirvana Knights seized this opportunity, their razor-sharp Knight Spears becoming the Scythe of Death in the Berserker Warriors’ eyes, repeatedly slashing and tearing through the increasingly chaotic enemy lines like a ferocious storm.
Despite the victory in sight, Susanov couldn’t shake off the worry on his face. What this war victory could bring was uncertain to anyone at the moment. Two thousand Berserker Warriors had utterly collapsed under the dual strike of the Mage Corps and the Knight Team, with fewer than three hundred managing to break out of the encirclement under the cover of the Wolf Cavalry and the Deer Cavalry. It seemed like a satisfactory victory, but for the Beastman Army, which had fifteen thousand Berserker Warriors, it was insignificant. Once their fury was invoked, Galle would face an even more vicious counterattack.
This counterattack battle in the Suburbs of Cologne was quite classic, using infantry to restrict the wolf and deer cavalry and then luring the less mobile Berserker Warriors into exposure before concentrating magical and knightly forces for a fatal strike. Indeed, the battle achieved its intended purpose, but its effect was hard to predict.
Seeing the knights’ triumphant air, Susanov’s worries intensified. The beastmen’s counterstrike hadn’t harmed their vitality; their Wolf Cavalry and the Cow Tribe’s infantry were unaffected. The loss of two thousand Berserker Warriors, aside from greatly infuriating them, served no other purpose. And as loyal allies of the Bear Tribe, would the Tiger Clan’s Thunderstrike Fighter Regiment and the elite Spotted Armor simply swallow this insult?
Obviously not. Susanov was well aware of the beastmen’s temperament. Such a loss of face could only be reclaimed through a war victory; otherwise, even the authority of the beastmen chiefs would be challenged. Even if they internally didn’t wish to escalate the war, they were likely unable to stop now. Moreover, perhaps deep down, they were waiting for this outcome as an excuse to expand the conflict.
And facing the threat of the beastmen’s martial power, Susanov wasn’t the most worried about the unrest coming from Gutenberg or the sneaky actions of the Homer People from the east. Just the beastmen’s attack alone, Susanov was confident that by relying on the fortress clusters in the north, he could contain the scope of the beastmen’s devastation within a certain range. Although he might face great pressure, as long as Galle remained stable internally and there was no backstabbing from other enemies, Susanov believed that if he could drag out the battle, the beastmen, not accustomed to protracted and attritional warfare, would naturally become impatient and withdraw their troops. However, if there was internal chaos and opportunistic exploitation from others, the problem would be far from simple.
The northern defense line had already tied up a significant portion of the military force he could mobilize. If he couldn’t hold out during this period, the problems would become extremely serious. Now was the most critical period, and almost every day upon waking up, Susanov needed to immediately understand the situation on the eastern front and if the Homer People had any other movements.
As soon as Komer learned that the beastmen had encountered a heavy blow from the Galleian side in the north of Galle, he knew the opportunity had arrived. Based on the intelligence sent back by Maha Gummi, it seemed that the beastmen’s opinions were quite divided. With each holding to their own views, it had led to a free-for-all after the Wolf Clan took the lead in breaking their original rules. The Cow Tribe and Bear Tribe followed suit, launching large-scale looting campaigns into the surrounding Silesia and Galle, actions which directly caused a large number of vassal tribes to join the battle. The entire eastern and southern areas of Jazair were engulfed in war.
Although the Galle front still maintained a considerable number of strongholds, it was well known that the Galle Army’s main forces had turned northward. Amidst the strong protests of Galle nobles and merchants, even Zellin was unable to suppress the calls for protecting the private properties of the nobles and merchants. If he lost the support of these people, the Stolten Family could just as likely become the passersby of Gutenberg overnight.
The confrontation between the Galle Army and the Homer Army also sparked strong public outrage in Galle. Faced with the pressure of the beastmen invasion, the Galle Army actually went to battle with the Homer Army, which was simply unthinkable!
The public didn’t have such profound political considerations. In their eyes, Lord Homer’s conquest of Poznan had nothing to do with Galle. However, if Galle ignored the real threat of the beastmen invasion to help the Silesians or the Poznan people fight, this was unacceptable, especially since Homer and Galle both belonged to the Kingdom of Nicosia. No matter from which angle, these issues should be problems for the Romanov family to solve, and had nothing to do with the people of Galle.
"Fran, it looks like we’re about to return to Homer soon. I hope all our preparations are complete."
"There shouldn’t be any major issues. The situation in Poznan has calmed down, and the Silesians are now too busy dealing with the beastmen’s rampage to even think about us. If we look at it purely from a tactical standpoint, I’d say taking Silesia in one fell swoop would be more appropriate."
Fran crossed his arms and appeared very relaxed and comfortable. Coming to Livonia with Komer was virtually like a holiday, freeing him from the burdens of military affairs and making him a lot more relaxed. At first, he wasn’t quite accustomed to it, but shortly he realized how blissful and carefree it was to cast everything aside and relax. Now, he actually found himself reminiscing about the life here. After delegating their work to their subordinates and letting them follow the established plans, Fran was quite carefree this time.
Now it seemed like it was time to reap the rewards.
"Ha, no worries, Silesia can’t escape. Galle must be dealt with first," Komer shook his head. "That Zeilin fellow may not be as incompetent as we imagine. Over the years, he’s managed to stay afloat right under the kingdom’s nose. I believe he definitely has his tricks. Compared to him, Philip and Ebsen are simply not on the same level. If we don’t take that guy down, I won’t be able to sleep peacefully for the rest of my life. Before solving the Galle problem, I’d rather not touch Silesia."
Fran nodded silently in agreement. The conquest of Nicosia had already begun, and Lord Komer would not stop his stride. Although Zeilin Stolten was cunning and crafty, with the absolute difference in power between them, any strategy or plan seemed pale and weak. Unless the Galleians could get external assistance, no matter how meticulously Zeilin planned, he wouldn’t be able to change the overall situation.
