Chapter 898: Volume 28: Long Spears Plow the Courtyard, Chapter 15: Not Yet Over

The subsequent battle seemed unremarkable, with Solonberg and Shatima joining the fray, Seringe and Chilomba were already struggling to hold on, especially when the group of mages from Rebry arrived. Seringe and Chilomba knew their fate was sealed. With their own mages fleeing the battlefield, there was no way they could escape from their opponent’s clutches. Those eager mages were just waiting for Komer’s command to launch a Magic Attack and end the battle.

The Knight’s Sword emitted a deep blue gleam, repelling a fierce assault from Solonberg, but then Shatima’s Dragon Spear came sweeping in with a thunderous force. The Metal Magic Doll was scurrying around the ground unpredictably, launching attacks from unimaginable angles, making it impossible for Seringe and Chilomba to defend effectively. Several gory wounds on their bodies were caused by this cursed Metal Magic Doll; if not for the toughness of their protective Fighting Qi, each bizarre and fierce strike would have been enough to disembowel them.

By this time, Komer had steadied his breathing and wiped the blood from the corners of his mouth and nose. His complexion looked much better. Seeing that the two were still fighting desperately, Komer felt much more relaxed. However, seeing Rebry with a thoughtful expression on his face, Komer felt a bit puzzled.

"Rebry, it seems you recognize these two guys? Do you know them?"

"No, I have never seen them before. However, looking at their performance, they do seem familiar. Look at their pure Sacred Fighting Qi and the seamless coordination, plus the distinctive style of their Knight’s Swords and their high level of magic proficiency. Don’t you have any inkling?"

Rebry shook his head, his brow slightly furrowing. Why would Komer provoke so many enemies?

The Bohemian Magic Knight Group represents the Kingdom of Bohemia, and those fleeing mages are very likely from the Mage Guild in Prague. If that is the case, it also means that Komer’s list of enemies now includes Bohemians and the Mage Guild, which would certainly be a disaster. Remembering the closeness between Galleians and Bohemians, Rebry felt even more troubled. Obviously, these folks were commissioned by Zellin, but such overt involvement by Bohemians in the internal affairs of the Kingdom of Nicosia, didn’t they heed concealment at all? What benefits could they possibly gain from this behavior?

Komer was momentarily startled, then observed more closely. Initially, he had thought that these two guys were assassins sent by his enemies, but now it seemed both possessed considerable expertise in Sacred Fighting Qi and skillful Knight’s Sword techniques, worked perfectly in tandem, clearly a result of long-term partnership. Sacred Fighting Qi and Knight’s Sword techniques together reminded Komer of many things.

"Are you saying they are Magic Knights? Bohemian Magic Knights?" Komer seemed to suddenly understand, "Zellin, that old dog, incited them to come?"

"Apart from this explanation, I can’t think of any reason why Bohemian Magic Knights should hold a grudge against you. Is it because of something you stirred up last time in Prague?" Rebry shrugged.

"Hmph, Zellin, that old dog, being so desperate, I can understand. But for Bohemians to be so presumptuous, openly participating in such schemes, do they really think I am weak enough to be bullied this way?" Komer’s teeth clenched with a clucking noise.

"This will probably need the clarification from these two themselves. But I think our relationship with the Kingdom of Bohemia hasn’t deteriorated to this extent yet, and perhaps there might be some clues behind it." Rebry also had a lot of doubts about this involvement. If Bohemians were sent as mages and Magic Knights to assist Galle in war due to their close relations, this could be somewhat understandable. However, assassinating another territory’s lord goes beyond the scope of war, and for Bohemians to involve themselves as main forces in such activities was indeed inconceivable.

"Clues? What other clues could there be?" Komer said hatefully, "This is a blatant interference in the internal affairs of the Kingdom of Nicosia, an open assassination against a lord of large territories like Caucasus—Homer—Poznan. If I tolerate such acts, wouldn’t it mean anyone can resort to such vile measures against me?"

Seeing the righteous indignation of Komer, Rebry found it somewhat amusing. When had this lord started to preach about means and justice so grandly?

"Lord Komer, personally, I don’t think it’s in our best interest to openly antagonize the Bohemians at least for now. Neither the Bohemian Magic Knights nor the Mage Guild of Prague with their respective power are any inferior to the Church of Light. At such a time, making such an enemy hastily is neither rational nor wise. I suggest we take our time to fully understand the real situation before making a decision. Remember, you are a lord, not just any knight—you must consider the welfare of your entire territory and not be blinded by personal grievances," Rebry advised, far more composed than the furious Komer.

Taking a deep breath, Komer forcefully suppressed his dissatisfaction, but he knew that Rebry’s advice was very sound. His power had expanded too quickly, creating more enemies, and he could hardly find a trustworthy supporter or ally nearby. Those like Katya and Hoffman were mostly thinking of using him, forming an imbalanced alliance of interests that could change course at any time, and he was no different. In such a situation, it was even more crucial to ponder calmly the future direction of his territory.

When Giovanni and Konti could no longer bear it and decided to test the depth of the two knights with dark magic, Seringe and Chilomba finally realized that persisting would lead to no results. Since the mission had already failed, as knights, they had no choice but to face reality rationally.

Seeing the two men, now prisoners, still maintaining their knightly dignity in front of him, Komer was unbearably frustrated. The reason seemed straightforward: the Bohemian Crown Prince sought Vero’s affection. Under such circumstances, it seemed only natural to send the Court Magic Knights to aid Galle. The Mage Guild did the same; at the Crown Prince’s request, they sent mages to assist in the combat in Galle. And the assassination attempt on Komer was merely a trick by Zellin. Had it succeeded, all would have been well. Failing, they had likely anticipated that Komer would direct his anger at the Bohemians, making them more entangled with Galle. This tactic was indeed clever; even Komer didn’t know how to deal with such a frustrating and embarrassing situation.

After the two magic knights were taken away, Komer, Rebry, Fran, and Puber looked at each other, facing a difficult dilemma. Letting these two men go was out of the question, as it would not only boost the Bohemians’ morale but also greatly damage their own pride. However, if they followed Komer’s initial idea to try and execute the two, it would lead to many complications. The Bohemians were bound to not stand idly by. Though they did not share borders with Komer’s territory, they could still utilize their support for Galle to suppress and strike at their own side.

"What should we do?" Komer sighed. He knew that executing them was not appropriate, but it seemed there were no better alternatives.

"It’s really troublesome. Don’t these magic knights have brains? They fell for such a simple self-destructive trick by Zellin?" Puber shook his head repeatedly.

"It’s not that they are simple-minded. A knight’s creed is to obey. What can you expect when they have a love-struck fool for a master? The Bohemian Crown Prince himself is the real brainless one, sending his knights to blindly follow Zellin’s orders. Has he not considered how this might damage the interests of the Bohemian Kingdom?" Rebry said with a wry smile, "Handled poorly, it might even affect his own position as the Crown Prince."

"Rebry, are you suggesting that his position as the Crown Prince is not stable?" Komer asked thoughtfully.

"Yes, as far as I know, King Newman Manuel II of the Bohemian Kingdom should have two sons. Prince Blamonte should be his eldest. He also has a younger son, Doronny. The relationship between the two seems estranged," Rebry nodded. He had traveled long in the Central Region and was quite familiar with the situation in the central part of the Continent.

"Hmm, Rebry, do you think that Newman Manuel II would approve of Blamonte’s reckless actions?" Komer tilted his head and asked, seemingly formulating some ideas.

"Of course not. The Bohemian Kingdom has always prided itself on being neutral, rarely interfering in the affairs of other countries unless it involved their own interests. If Blamonte’s actions were exposed, he would definitely face severe punishment from Newman Manuel II, but it could potentially hurt the Bohemians’ pride. Even if Newman Manuel II is very displeased with Blamonte’s actions, he might continue supporting the Galleians for the sake of face, which is probably what that old fox Zellin was banking on," Rebry said, frowning.
