Chapter 879: Volume 27, The Sudden Gust, Chapter 18: Illegitimate Child

Komer lay languidly in the soft chair, not wishing to move a muscle, for savoring the afterglow of joy was a pleasure in itself.

Tracy rewarded him with a coquettish glance, prompting Komer to sigh inwardly. If this woman could truly remain faithful, she would definitely be his ideal partner—distant and cold in public, wild and indulgent in bed, and a crafty schemer. It was a pity...

Neither Vero nor Renta could match her, not even close. Komer found no need to consider Vero, and as for Renta, perhaps she could compete in cunning and looks, but what of the rest? Komer pondered quizzically. How could he know their true essence without tasting? Maybe he was being too conservative; only through selection could one find the brightest pearl.

Tracy skillfully showcased her charm. After arranging Komer’s clothes, she began attending to her own dress. The bell skirt had been roughly crumpled by Komer’s passion. Such noble attire was hardly suitable for a secret rendezvous, but Tracy had not anticipated Komer’s ardor erupting so swiftly that she had no choice but to endure the frenzied embrace.

Fastening the brassiere behind her back was difficult, with even skillful and experienced maids needing some time to manage it, but later inventions of hook-style clasps made it much easier. Tracy, in front of Komer, lifted her brassiere, then one by one, secured the hook clasps. Komer couldn’t help but exhale sharply.

Like the most demure of ladies, Tracy sat elegantly across from Komer, who propped his chin and gazed at her. Under Komer’s gaze, Tracy appeared composed and unruffled, and her slightly crimson cheeks seemed to have a touch of blush. At that moment, one might think she was even more innocent than a royal princess.

Playing absently with a pencil in his hand, the physiological urge had calmed, and Komer knew he had to consider this not so troublesome trouble before him. What did she want? He believed Tracy to be a smart and rational woman. Unrealistic thoughts had long since been cast aside after experiencing so many storms.

"Tracy, if you enjoy living in the Caucasus, you can stay here forever," Komer finally knew what to say after a long while.

"Do you really mean that?" Tracy’s face revealed a faint smile, tinged with a hint of sarcasm.

"What do you mean?"

"Komer, this place isn’t suitable for me. I know I’m no longer the Tracy you once knew in your eyes, and I do not long for the past anymore. Ugru is your favorite place to stay, and all the women around you are here. Like that priest, and the red-haired half-elf assassin. Maybe Renta and Vero, too, will they all live here? Haven’t you ever considered this?"

Komer frowned, "What are you implying...?"

"I don’t belong here. A month ago, I had already become Baron Florel’s wife. My father threw me to a fallen household eager for a chance to elevate their status. To him, I’m nothing more than an accessory; he only requires my noble name. I’m now homeless, and if you have even a trace of pity for me, please let me leave Nicosia." Tracy’s expression was serene, recounting an affair seemingly unrelated to her.

"Would you like to go to Flanders or the Southern Mediterranean?" Komer scratched his head, finally understanding her point.

"Have you already reached into the Southern Mediterranean?" Tracy’s eyes lit up with joy after a moment of surprise. To be able to escape all traces of her past life would be a blessing. She knew that Flanders might have other plans for Komer, so she dared not hope for too much.

"Hmm, I have some assets in Sparta," Komer hesitated for a moment.

"If I could live there, it would be fantastic. The sunshine, forests, and fresh air of the Southern Mediterranean might be the best medicine to help me forget everything I’ve endured," Tracy’s joy was genuine as it spread across her face.

"Then head to Athens. Living there would probably be the best choice for you. Kapok Castle can provide you with a comfortable environment," Komer nodded.

"Yes, I will go. And I will never return to Nicosia. But before I do, I need to take care of one thing," Tracy said, her eyes misty and cheeks aglow with a luminous crimson.

"What thing?" Komer asked, puzzled. What else did this woman want?

"Give me a child."

"What?" Komer was taken aback, then composed himself, "Do you truly need this?"

"Komer, my heart is as still as water. I no longer harbor any hopes. Can’t you grant me even this small consolation? Or do you think my body has been so defiled, so filthy to this extent?" Tracy spoke with fervor.

"Oh, Tracy, calm down," Komer furrowed his brow. Adultery was not uncommon among the nobles, but to bear a child for another required careful consideration, as it could only add to the ridicule and trouble. Luckily, Tracy was married, which was far better. Whether the public knew or not, at least there was a nominal cover. If a noblewoman, yet unmarried, were to bear someone else’s child, society would not accept it. "You should know I might not be able to give him (her) any status."

"An illegitimate child?" Tracy laughed, a touch of melancholy in her voice, "Could I possibly hope for more? I want nothing else, just something to cherish. As for the future, I haven’t thought much about it."

Haven’t thought much about the future? Indeed, who could foresee the events of a decade hence? Komer nodded soberly.

"You agree?" Tracy couldn’t hide her elation, "Really?"

In an instant, Komer felt as if he had returned to years before. He struggled to suppress his emotions, "Remember, I have promised you nothing else, and perhaps the South is truly best for you."
