Chapter 851: Volume 26: Gathering Momentum, Chapter 14: The Oath

"Well said! The Church of Light is now nothing but a toothless tiger—no, calling them a toothless tiger is an overstatement. They are merely puppets who paralyze the faith of the populace with spiritual poison while idly occupying their positions. Though they appear lofty and fearsome, they are in reality nothing more than hollow, decaying wood that can barely withstand a single blow. Look at their performance over the years, the mediocre show they have put on in the wars against the beastmen while masquerading as protectors of mortals. I even suspect that the current Church of Light is nothing but a band of swindlers and worms clinging to their former glories. The Kingdom of Nicosia has even lost its capital to the hunting grounds of the beastmen, and all they can do is put up a few pretentious shouts without any real action. How can such a rubbish faith still claim to be the guardians of humanity? Do they truly deserve any respect? This is utterly ludicrous and absurd!"

Komer, puffing up with an unyielding spirit, prattled on skillfully about his eloquence. The group before him would soon become his most powerful vanguard against the Church of Light, and he needed to secure their loyalty to maximize their utility. For them, money and power were secondary; the most important thing was to win their recognition and make them feel that he could voice their sentiments. Only then could he effectively gather them around him, willing to serve him wholeheartedly.

"I think it’s solely because of their good fortune that they have been able to strut around, basing their pride on the little inheritance left by their ancestors, deceiving the common fools. It’s safe to say their downfall is imminent. The age now belongs to us, the ambitious Dark Lineage. History only moves forward, and those who hinder its progress will merely become stepping stones under the wheels of time. Let us be the gravediggers of the Church of Light."

Excitement gleamed in Komer’s eyes, and his deep, forceful voice carried an even greater incendiary power. "I have always hoped that the Dark Lineage could make a showing in the battle against the Church of Light. It seems that Xerob has not disappointed me this time. He has sent me the most devoted and loyal followers from among our Dark Lineage. You are the solid foundation of our cause. With you, our dark flame will never be extinguished, no matter the circumstances. This is what I expect from you. The North has always been the stronghold of the Church of Light. Here, our struggle against the decadent Church of Light has just begun. I believe if we can completely strip away the frail veneer of the Church of Light in this battle, the entire Blue Continent will belong to our Dark Lineage."

This group, already dissatisfied with the gradually moderating policies of the Southern Dark Holy Church, had always been radicals within the Dark Sects. They were significantly discontented with the existing status of the Dark Lineage. When the Great Mysterium Sect and other Dark Sects united to raise the banner of the Dark Holy Church, they naturally became the front-line troops. Whether spreading the Dark doctrines or directly confronting the forces of Light, or subtly pressuring secular powers, they were unyielding. However, as the Dark Holy Church began to establish its dominant position in the Southern Region and needed to share power and coexist peacefully with the ruling classes within the secular governments, these radical forces gradually became obstacles to the integration of the Dark Holy Church in this world. They themselves gradually realized that they were out of step with the mainstream forces of the Dark Holy Church, and migrating to the North was undoubtedly the best choice.

Komer’s cunning and inflammatory speech was as natural as water flowing in a channel, effortlessly igniting the restless emotions of his audience. Their eyes blazed with fanaticism that needed no hiding, and the flush on their faces revealed that the emotions of these Dark Mages had reached a peak, like a volcano ready to erupt. They had not expected that the Dark Lord, whom the Envoys had always described as very subtle and mild, would take such a radical and clear stance and declare war on the Church of Light so openly. How could this not surprise and delight them? Always feeling oppressed by the mainstream, they now realized that the Dark Lord was not as indecisive as the upper echelons had portrayed him. Komer had utterly won the hearts of these fervent mages with his passionate language.

"Respected Dark Lord Sir, I, Giovanni Zamboronia, swear my allegiance to you. I will forever adhere to the oaths of our Dark Holy Church, and I am willing to devote my life to the glorious cause of the Dark Holy Church."

As the leading Dark Mage, completely won over by Komer’s sweeping declaration, knelt on one knee and pledged his loyalty with a hand over his heart, the other Dark Mages behind him, influenced by his action, also knelt in unison and pledged their loyalty to Komer. The entire scene turned into one that was fiercely stirring, unexpectedly pleasing Komer and even making him a little smug. Although he had subtly infused a bit of Psychic Magic into his words, considering these mages were powerful figures within the Dark Lineage, Komer dared not cast his spells too conspicuously for fear of being detected, which could have ruined the scenario he had painstakingly crafted. He had not expected his words to have such a marvelous effect and to provoke such gratitude from these Dark Mages, a surprise and a delight even to Komer himself.
