Chapter 821: Volume 25, Striking the Water Midstream, Chapter 8: The Temptation of the Dragon

Lecler couldn’t help but widen his eyes. What was this woman talking about? Did she not realize what her own mouth was saying? To give me this title? Did she think the position of Knight Leader was as simple as that of a squad captain?

Lecler shook his head as he scrutinized this carefree and enchanting female general. Even if this individual was Komer’s favored mistress, she couldn’t possibly make such a hasty decision in his place. Of course, Lecler also didn’t believe Komer’s taste could become so poor. The Three Wolves of Cyprus were notorious in Cyprus, but it seemed their aesthetic views were still similar to those of ordinary people; there had been no tales resembling the likes of this woman amongst the mistreated common girls in the city of Cyprus.

"Miss Shatima, I must remind you that you lack the qualifications to speak these words. I believe you are also utterly unaware of our kingdom’s legal procedures. Perhaps you didn’t even give it a thought before speaking. I don’t know where you are from, but if you were a citizen of the Kingdom of Nicosia, you should be aware that the position of Knight Leader must be endorsed by a Lord and approved by the kingdom. You seem to completely ignore these factors."

If Shatima’s careless words hadn’t touched Lecler at all, that would have been a lie. No noble knight wanted to live in seclusion in the wilderness forever. But self-esteem and face forced them to live humbly under the shadow of failure; self-abandonment was also a form of self-exile and self-denial. Lecler could certainly understand the frustration and despair of his former subordinates; it was also the main reason he had been unwilling to inquire further. After all, he himself was also immersed in depression for a long time and couldn’t extricate himself, let alone those who had always regarded loyalty to the Philip family as a lifelong honor. Now everyone knew that the Philip family had completely fallen. Not only the Kingdom Star Chamber Court but even the Romanov family had recognized Komer’s lordship over Homer. Legally, Komer had officially become Lord Homer, and no one could overturn this anymore.

Numerous examples had already shown Lecler that the faithful followers of former lords would gradually fade from the inner circle of new lords, and the same was true for knights. If they could humble themselves and beg for forgiveness from the new lord, perhaps they could maintain their previous lives. But for knights, such humiliation was akin to suicide. For someone like him, a former Knight Leader, no new lord would trust him. To peacefully get through the latter part of his life was already quite satisfactory.

Despite Lecler’s outright rude and even insulting language, Shatima seemed completely unconcerned. She didn’t even seem to realize the scorn and disdain in his words, but that didn’t affect her understanding of the meaning of Lecler’s words.

"Knight Lecler, do you think I am merely bragging, or that I am making reckless promises? I also want to tell you that we dragons..." She caught herself and halted abruptly, and with a pause, continued, "When I speak, I mean it. I have a favorable impression of you. Compared to Vladimir Koff and that Solonberg, you are truly decent. I will make you the corps commander of the Homer and even the Caucasus Knights."

Shatima made no attempt to hide her admiration for Lecler. Compared to the reticent Solonberg and the serious, stiff Vladimir Koff, Lecler might be a bit older, but he at least lacked that displeasing gloominess. In a word, the current Lecler fitted more into Shatima’s ideal image of a knight.

Seeing Shatima making such a solemn promise truly surprised Lecler. Could it be that this woman really had an affair with Komer? He looked her over again. Apart from a decent face, larger breasts, and a better figure, he really couldn’t see anything about this woman that matched the aesthetic views of the nobility, especially her crude behavior and inappropriate language. Komer liked this type of woman? Could it be that after spending two years in the Wilderness of the Caucasus, constantly mixing with barbarians, even his taste in women had shifted closer to that of those barbarians?

"Miss Shatima, there’s no need to use this kind of language to tempt me anymore. I have my principles. I lost this contest, and I will do my best to help you handle the knights creating disturbances. I will persuade them to obey the law, but as for the outcome, that’s not for me to decide." Lecler appeared quite candid, "I won’t deny my longing for the life of a Knight Leader, but I won’t engage in vile actions to please someone. I hope you will stop testing me with this type of language."

With Lecler’s intervention, the public order in Cyprus City quickly calmed down. There were noticeably fewer knights in the taverns, and even those present were quite restrained and rational. However, the desolate and melancholy expressions on their faces grew even more intense. Many knights were drunkenly staggering home, supported by their comrades.

Lecler didn’t expressly demand anything; he simply asked the knights to calmly accept reality. Even members of the Kingdom Star Chamber Court and the Romanov family had acknowledged the transfer of Lord Homer’s authority. As part of the kingdom and as models of law-abiding behavior, the knights should adhere to the law more strictly than the common people.

Seeing the bleak situation of his former companions, Lecler was also deeply moved. At times, he even recalled the words of that coarse woman. If, if, if what she said was true, perhaps... Lecler couldn’t help but scoff at the association, feeling that even now he wasn’t exempt from convention. His craving for glory and honor seemed hard to quench merely through willpower. At times, Lecler couldn’t help fantasizing—maybe Komer truly was a deviant for liking that coarse woman? Maybe Komer would take her word over that of his advisors? After all, the words of noble mistresses often held more sway than those of ministers.

"Are you suggesting that Mr. Lecler help me reestablish a Homer Knight Order?" Komer picked up a wine glass and handed one to Fran and one to Shatima, the enchanting dragon always tempting him, forcing Komer to calm his restless heart with ice-chilled gin.

"Yes, Komer, I think it’s a good idea. That guy is very keen on the position of the Knight Leader, I can feel it," Shatima trusted her instincts. Her bell skirt was tight against her slightly voluptuous body, but she knew men seemed to like her plump body, especially during such close encounters, when men’s IQ seemed to decrease. She posed, sipped her drink, pursed her lips, blinked twice and then spoke, "And his martial arts skills are quite impressive, not at all inferior to Vladimir Koff; I think he’s completely fit for the job."

"Fran, do you think so too?" Komer swallowed hard, his saliva mixed with the drink, as the allure of the beautiful dragon grew stronger. To his thirsty self, she was like a wine that held a fierce flame inside; swallowing it might bring momentary joy, but could likely leave him scorched all over.

"Shatima has a point; Lecler is a very qualified Knight Leader. Although the Homer Knight Order was defeated by us, it wasn’t his fault. To be fair, the Homer Knight Order also caused us a great deal of trouble, largely because of Lecler’s exceptional leadership skills." Fran respected his former adversary, "He also has high credibility among the Homer Knights. Apart from loyalty issues, if we really want to form a knights regiment, he should be the most suitable candidate for Corps Commander."

"Loyalty issues?" Komer tilted his head thoughtfully, "Do you think, under these circumstances, these knights would still be loyal to Philip?"

"Theoretically, they shouldn’t, but Lord, you should know that the minds of knights can sometimes be terribly stubborn. They take pride in this, even consider it a knightly principle. If they see you as a usurper, you will never win their loyalty in this lifetime." Fran shrugged and tipped his head back to down his drink.

"No, no, General Fran, I don’t think Lecler is that kind of dogmatic person. There’s a kind of flame in his eyes. When I said I could seek the position of Knight Leader for him, the fire in his eyes burned even more fiercely. Although he appears very calm, he can’t hide his feelings from me." Shatima shook her head repeatedly, "Please trust my intuition."

Komer’s gaze fell on Shatima’s face, her fair, plump face, along with her equally lush bare shoulders and deep cleavage, truly a bewitching sight that could stir endless impulses in a man.

Fran’s gaze had already drifted to the side, perplexed as to why his master hesitated in front of this woman. Given Komer’s status, there seemed no need for any hesitation—this woman’s posture in front of Komer was clearly seductive. It seemed only natural that they should end up in bed, yet Komer seemed more hesitant than ever, as if fearful of something. This left Fran utterly baffled. Of course, he had no idea what Komer was actually worried about. (To be continued.
