Chapter 816: Volume 25 Striking the Waters Midstream Chapter 3 Sizable Fruits (2)

"Hayreddin, I’ve seen people correctly before, I’ve always believed in you and expected you to bring glory to me and Caucasus, and now it seems you have done just that, I’m very fortunate for that trip to Odessa, as it’s what allowed me to meet you. You’ve completed the task I assigned to you, and I think I should fully consider giving you a corresponding reward."

Komer did not withhold his praise, although he was still unclear about what the ultimate victory over the Demisheme armed pirate group had won for Caucasus, but just the creation of such a powerful naval fleet had already satisfied Komer considerably. Even though this fleet might not compare to the Carter Fleet or the Gray Skull Fleet, Komer believed that if this fleet could integrate the Homer Fleet, he could at least deter the guys to the north of Homer, and that was crucial for his future plans.

"My Lord, all this was only possible with your support and guidance; Hayreddin has merely followed your instructions and did what ought to be done," Hayreddin was somewhat taken aback by such high praise from Komer. Without Komer’s full support back then, without those magic-armed guns and Mirror of Thousand Miles, he wouldn’t have been able to achieve such success in such a short time, and might very well have been completely wiped out by the Demisheme in the first battle.

"Well, Hayreddin, you needn’t be overly modest. I understand that a knight might be better suited for your current status. As the commander of the Caucasus Fleet, it shouldn’t still be borne by an ordinary Free Citizen." Komer decisively interrupted the other’s words, "I am very interested in your experiences in the Southern Mediterranean and the Storm Ocean. If there’s time, I really want to satisfy my curiosity."

Perhaps Komer’s words suddenly reminded Hayreddin, pulling him out of his elation, "My Lord, I almost forgot, I’ve brought someone back for you, and I must also report to you about our Caucasus Fleet’s current activities in the Southern Mediterranean Region."

"Oh? A person?" Komer’s interest piqued instantly, what sort of person could make Hayreddin this serious in recommending them to him? "Then why don’t you invite them in?"

Seeing that Komer didn’t ask who it was, Hayreddin felt a surge of warmth inside. Such trust clearly showed the noble lord’s high regard, and with a slight bow, Hayreddin turned to leave. He did not dare bring the person in without Komer’s permission; after all, this individual was infamous and overly sensitive. His bounty in the Southern Mediterranean had reached 100,000 Gold Shields, but no one could hope to capture him, unless he walked into the net himself.

Komer waited with interest to see whom Hayreddin would bring before him. He also noticed the hesitation on Hayreddin’s face, which piqued his curiosity even more. He could not imagine who could make Hayreddin treat them with such regard, yet also with such wariness. However, when that person appeared before Komer with Hayreddin, Komer almost immediately understood why Hayreddin had that look and mindset.

The man’s lean and almost shriveled body did not convey weakness, on the contrary, anyone could feel the power and murderous air stored within him. Even though he was intentionally suppressing and hiding it, everything was revealed before Komer’s "divine eyes". This individual’s murderous aura was absolutely honed through countless life-and-death battles and even through the sacrificial rites using numerous beings. A black eyepatch covered his right eye, not as a pretense of coolness or ferocity. The deep arrow scar on his cheekbone, slashing up to his forehead, and piercing the bone, added a ghastly look to his otherwise plain face; his thin lips were like a knife, his pointed chin like a fox, a missing piece of his left ear clearly bitten off, even though he stood bowing, an aura of vicious ferocity rushed forth.

"Respected Lord Komer, I am Murad. If you can accept my submission, I swear by the name of the sea god Poseidon, I will become your most loyal servant."

The somewhat hoarse and low voice did little to hide the sinisterness his words conveyed, like the slithering of a snake’s tongue. Had it been in the past, Komer would have been intimidated by his notoriety, but the Komer of today was not the same as before. Even if Pope Urius of the Church of Light appeared before him, it would be hard to shake him.

"One-eyed wolf shark Murad? Bloody brow Murad? Nothing grows Murad?" Komer’s tone seemed devoid of shock, fear, or worry, instead filled with curiosity. This surprised not only Murad himself but also Hayreddin.

It was known that Murad’s notoriety in the Southern Mediterranean and Storm Ocean even far exceeded that of the Red-haired Empress, Katerina. While Katerina with her Carter Fleet was indeed invincible in battle, she rarely committed outrageously evil deeds. But Murad and his Demisheme were notorious for their brutality and cruelty, following a steadfast rule of total eradication and clear-cut deals, and furthermore, his cunning was like that of a fox, which had won him the highest reputation within the Demisheme.

Perhaps thrown off by Komer’s somewhat odd tone, the gaunt man’s aura somewhat faltered. At least one thing he could be certain of was that this young noble lord knew of his notoriety, and even his deeds, but showed no fear of him. There even seemed a hint of appreciation, Murad didn’t know if this was his own misconception, which made him feel both slighted and excited. He had not managed to surprise the other, but neither did he encounter the revulsion he feared; this feeling was peculiar.

"Respected Lord, my humble name is not worth mentioning in your presence," Murad bowed his head, trying his best to maintain a low profile.

"Oh, I apologize, I was quite rude there. I’m simply curious about who could be deserving of such a solemn introduction by Hayreddin. In my recollection, there seems to be no one who would be held in such esteem by him—so it’s you! Hmm, somewhat unexpected, yet it makes sense," Komer spoke an apology, yet the tone remained exceptionally relaxed. A superior can express regret in words, but they must never diminish their own status in attitude, as this is the dignity of the superior.

"Lord, please forgive me for not informing you earlier. In fact, I have been hesitating until now..." Hayreddin was somewhat embarrassed.

"But you did bring him here, didn’t you?" Komer smiled slightly, "What made you take such a risk to recommend Mr. Murad to me?"

Murad found his own aura completely suppressed, a situation he had never encountered before.

Even with Hayreddin, he only acknowledged that the other had comparable capabilities in naval strategy, and perhaps surpassed him in magnanimity and in placing the right people in the right positions. When it come to ruthlessness in tactics and imposing aura, Murad believed he was in no way inferior to Hayreddin. But at this moment, Murad realized that he couldn’t muster any resistance in front of these two men, especially the young noble lord before him who, without any gesture, with just a light glance, seemed to imprint upon the depths of his mind, making him feel utterly transparent and exposed. The shock and oppression made him subconsciously want to avoid the other, filling him with indescribable shame.

Komer seemed to be completely unaware of the nervousness of the wolf shark renowned in the Southern Mediterranean and Storm Ocean. But in fact, the moment the other entered the room, he knew the other harbored considerable doubt towards his own authority. Perhaps Murad lost to Hayreddin at sea, but he might not be willing to submit to a young noble lord like himself; in their eyes, someone like him could very well just be parasites squandering stores and grain. Didn’t he view his own kind in the same light?

Komer had no intention of giving the other any opportunity to provoke a conflict. With a Mental Shock from Psychic Magic, he caused the other to fall helplessly into the trap. For these fighters who pride themselves on martial power, a baptism with psychic magic was by far the most suitable.

Murad felt that the Lord’s stern authority and unpredictable aura left him utterly unable to resist; that deep glance seemed to force him into total submission. It was then he realized everything Hayreddin had warned him about on their journey, which he had somewhat scorned, believing it to be excessive respect for this Lord. Now, he understood that in the presence of the other, he was no more than an ant.

Every nuance of Murad’s emotional change was reflected in Komer’s heart. This method of subduing a person was not entirely honorable, but it was the most effective. For someone like Murad, perhaps there was no need for niceties—the simplest, most direct, and most effective way was the best.

"Lord, because I think Murad could be useful to you. And I thought nothing could change your decision as long as you deemed it necessary, and Murad is precisely the person you need," Hayreddin said intently, his gaze fixed on Komer who seemed to be savoring something, word by word.

"Hayreddin, you really understand me," Komer remarked noncommittally, and instantly turned his eyes to Murad: "Mr. Murad, what can you bring to me?"

"Lord Komer, I can bring you many things you need, but I can also bring you many things you wouldn’t expect, perhaps even things you may not accept. Therefore, I must presumptuously remind you to be mentally prepared," Murad endeavored to gather his presence, though he had not fully recovered from Komer’s psychic assault. Yet the presence he had cultivated in his long years of fighting maintained his necessary rationality.
