Chapter 790: Volume 24 Beacon Smoke Connecting Camps Chapter 3 Battle Begins

The black mass of barbarian warriors formed nineteen strictly organized rhomboid formations, along with four square formations composed of Half-Beastmen and Mortals, and one crescent-shaped formation of Half-Elf Crossbowmen—all of Komer’s forces were almost entirely laid bare upon the Busen Plain.

Of course, Komer still had an elite and special force in hand; acting as the Earth Dragon Warriors Assault Team and the Thunder Peng Sniper Knights, Komer did not intend to expose them in front of everyone. In fact, his ordinary combat forces were already quite formidable, fully capable of crushing Homer’s army into powder, but this assumed that the opposing side’s Royal Court Magicians, invisibly stationed at the back, would not interfere—an impossibility in reality.

Komer lifted the Mirror of Thousand Miles in his hands to observe Homer’s army two thousand meters away. He didn’t want to waste his magic power using the Heavenly Eye Technique at this time. Conserving even a little strength was crucial, and using the Mirror of Thousand Miles could further boost his own side’s confidence.

The Homer Lily Flag, representing Philip, still maximized its bright colors under the sunshine. Sixteen infantry formations and three knight formations had already been neatly arranged. Clearly, Philip was making a last-ditch effort, hastily rushing all the squires and knight apprentices onto the Battlefield. Seeing those squires and knight apprentices’ sorry horses and their crude plate armor could tell how Philip had spared no expense for this battle. Running heedlessly into danger, only a fool would snatch at the offering, and the outcome of this war had, in fact, been destined for Homer from the very beginning. Komer observed all this with a cold eye.

The Nirvana Knight Regiment had not appeared in Homer’s army lineup, which caused Komer some concern. The impact of this elite corps of Galleian knights could become a nightmare for the infantry formations if he couldn’t effectively contain their potential flank Attack. His own infantry would never be able to boldly engage the enemy in blood and fire.

Although the Maha Gummi intelligence system and battlefield scouts had been working hard to locate this force, and even though reports from Maha Gummi informants had confirmed that the Nirvana Knights had left Cyprus on their way back to Gutenberg, Komer still couldn’t relax.

The Nirvana Knights had already made contact with the Caucasus, and the hostility they showed took Komer by surprise. But seeing the fiery eyes of Knight Sate, Komer had his own realizations—it seemed Vero brought him not only pleasure but some trouble as well, quite intriguing. It wasn’t for this reason that Komer felt uneasy, but due to his understanding of Zellin. That old fox wouldn’t give up his ambitions just because of a few empty words or his daughter’s feelings. The only way to curb his reckless moves was to prove strength, and now, Komer knew that only after this decisive battle would the Galleians come to their senses and recognize the shift in the balance of power.

Until then, Komer had no choice but to be wary of this force’s sudden emergence, ready to deliver a fatal blow.

Silesia and Poznan had officially agreed to Homer’s invitation to join the war, but they had been dragging their feet in their movements—perhaps demanding a high price. Homer seemed hesitant about their "kindness," otherwise, they wouldn’t have agreed to this decisive duel ahead of the arrival of the Silesian and Poznan forces to Homer.

A soldier hurriedly ran past the front line toward the central command position, and Komer could even see the large beads of sweat on his cheeks.

"Lord, the Thunder Peng Knights have discovered a cavalry troop about thirty kilometers to our northwest moving rapidly towards the Battlefield. According to the Thunder Peng Knights’ description, this appears to be a Knights regiment, numbering around two thousand, and they are quite well-equipped," the soldier reported.

"Oh?" Komer smiled, waving his hand to show he understood, and then turned to look at Fran, fully clad in military attire, "It seems the Galleians are still unwilling to forget their friendship with Homer, Fran. Should we teach them a proper lesson?"

"Yes, my Lord. I agree with your judgment and opinion. This must be the Nirvana Knights. They’ve camouflaged their true purpose well, but their goal in coming to Homer has not been achieved. I don’t believe they will just quietly depart. Without engaging in battle, they won’t be satisfied, nor will they be able to explain themselves to Philip," Fran replied.

A suit of gray-green silver-threaded chainmail made Fran look particularly dashing. His round helmet, topped with an exquisitely crafted Bear Head, showcased his integration into the Caucasus, while the Bear Head Emblem on his chestplate confirmed it. The earnest look in his eyes couldn’t mask his eagerness, and his hand resting on the Great Sword, planted in the mud, was simple yet the barely concealed malice it radiated was unmistakable. It seemed that this Chief of the Caucasus Army was all too eager to enter the fray and flex his muscles on the Battlefield.

"Hmm, what do you plan to do?" Komer nodded.

"The Nirvana Knights’ charge is quite formidable, and now that we’re on the plain, it’s ideal for their cavalry to charge. I plan to use six reserve infantry formations to withstand their attack. Although there are three formations of Homer Knights on this side, their combat effectiveness and morale cannot compare to the fresh forces of the Nirvana Knights. Thus, I’ll meet their charge with a one-to-one ratio of infantry formations. The goal on both fronts is to tie down their cavalry power and then use the crossbowmen to inflict maximum casualties. Our decisive strength lies in our infantry. The infantry must swiftly and thoroughly break their formations, though that looks challenging with the forces we currently have," Fran paused, his gaze shifting to Komer.

"Give me all of the Earth Dragon Warriors Assault Team; we must completely crush them. The same goes for the Thunder Peng Knights. A soldier is prepared for a thousand days for one moment of battle—do not hesitate to use them! Do not fear losses!" Komer declared emphatically with a wave of his hand.

"Then we’ll have no reserves," Fran said hesitantly. It’s a major taboo for military strategists to not have sufficient reserves, and leaders always avoid such desperate gambles.

"Now that the Nirvana Knights have shown their strength, we no longer have anything to hold back. Besides, I still have another force in my hand," Komer shook his head. "Don’t worry."

Fran knew that this Lord seemed to have some trump card hidden away. In fact, he had a vague idea of what it might be, but he didn’t want to delve too deeply. The things behind this Lord were too complicated: Dark Lineage, Undead Power, and even Puppets he had only heard of. These terms often surfaced in his mind. As a military man, he didn’t want to get involved in anything beyond warfare. Since the Lord was so confident, of course, he had no more to say.

Watching Fran’s steadfast and honest figure, Komer felt somewhat moved. It was better for Fran to be a little more innocent, and he was indeed striving hard in that direction. Uma was already hiding in the shadows as per his orders, and his undead legions would swarm out if necessary, but Komer was reluctant to use this force unless absolutely necessary.

Undead Power like this was more suited for small-scale attacks rather than this large-scale warfare. Komer preferred to have Uma blend into his own Mage Corps to strike a fatal blow to the opposing Royal Court Magicians, to pull the rug out from under their feet. If he could take down their magical strength, his side would be in an invincible position, and it would also significantly weaken the Church of Light’s influence within Nicosia. They were the main opponents he would face in the future. For a mage duel, summoning the undead appeared more acceptable, as Dark Mages were fundamentally rooted in Dark Force. You couldn’t expect them to be the same as Light Mages. Komer wasn’t concerned with how the Church of Light viewed him; what mattered more to him now was the public’s perception.

Saliman looked distressed, while Carl Libukneisi maintained a somber expression. The two knight leaders, however, seemed much calmer. To them, war was their sacred duty. They would find peace of mind in striving hard, regardless of victory or defeat, even though their masters might not see things the same way.

The blush on Philip’s face lingered for a long time. The ultimate battle was finally approaching. The formation arranged by the other side was considerable, showing that the guy opposite had also put in all his effort. Winning this battle meant Leon and Caucasus would return to his control. Although now was not the time to consider how to divide these two well-developed territories, Philip couldn’t help but think ahead.

The Magicians were resting in their tents, Philip’s most solid support for the battle to come. With three Light Saints and Onia, who had advanced to the Archmage realm, in addition to a large number of ordinary Mages and Magicians, Philip was brimming with confidence. This magical power had far surpassed the power of Nicosia Kingdom’s Royal Mage Corps, and Philip could hardly imagine any Mage Corps on the Continent that could contend with theirs, perhaps only the Guild Mages of Bohemia Kingdom, but they would never appear here.

Everyone was waiting. The tent flap was lifted, and Onia, dressed in white, entered with another white-robed mage who had her face covered with a light veil, her prominent bust revealing her gender.

"Duke, sorry to keep you waiting. This is our Church of Light’s Saint Iliana from Marco; she and the other Saints will provide Homer with support on behalf of the Bright Holy Teaching," Onia said casually, nodding and greeting everyone around, while he solemnly introduced the veiled mage next to him to the group.
