Chapter 782: Volume 23: Rising Winds and Swirling Clouds, Chapter 18: A Good Person

Komer had never felt such a headache before, his foot had barely stepped into Ugru when here came the report of Tracy’s arrival in Mattdam. Either none would come or they’d all come at once, which really made Komer feel quite vexed.

The arrival of Vero was like a breath of spring, finally calming Komer’s restless heart. Watching Shatima eyeing the other with her beautiful blue eyes, Komer found it somewhat amusing. This fellow, why did he always feel like there was a hint of picky jealousy in her? Could it be that she really thought she had completely transformed into a human?

Shatima was getting more and more accustomed to human life. She was trying her best to imitate the women around her to blend more successfully into the society. The graceful and gentle Eve, the straightforward and sexy Grace, the reserved Lome, the cute and smart Finitz, and even the proud and aloof Katya were her role models. Komer had once reminded her not to deliberately imitate other women, that everyone should have their own unique personality, and that imitating others would only result in losing oneself. However, Shatima seemed not to have taken his advice to heart, and Komer could only hope that she would learn from others’ strengths and not become a jack of all trades and master of none.

However, the arrival of Vero seemed to have stimulated Shatima. Vero’s elegance made Shatima feel an unprecedented distance, realizing that all she had learned before paled in comparison to the dazzling poise of the woman in front of her. Every small movement she made, even the most casual gestures, revealed an enchanting grace. As Shatima envied and admired her, she found she might have found a new role model. Seeing the strange expression in Komer’s eyes, Shatima believed she might benefit greatly from this learning opportunity.

"Shatima, don’t look at people that way; it is very impolite," Komer had to verbally remind the Dragon Lady, who was nearly becoming his personal female bodyguard. Although she tried hard to appear like a mature woman, so outsiders would think she resembled the mistress of the Caucasus, Shatima knew all too well she was failing at this ruse. Outsiders mostly viewed her as a guard, which was quite disheartening to her.

"Komer, so this is the beauty you’ve been dreaming of?" Shatima blurted out, which made Vero’s delicate eyebrows raise slightly as well. Komer was used to such blunt comments from Shatima, but for Vero, such direct words were a bit too straightforward, especially coming from a voluptuous and glamorous woman who seemed to have a special relationship with Komer, which made it all the more significant.

"Komer, why don’t you introduce us?" Vero, still maintaining her serene and attractive freshness, had a faint smile on her face that made people feel it was almost a profanity to look at her directly. Even Komer felt a conflicting desire to hold her in his arms, yet also felt it would be a crime.

"Uh, Vero, this is Miss Shatima, my friend, uh, she is a good person. Shatima, although it’s your first time meeting Vero, I believe you’ve already heard of her," Komer didn’t quite know how to introduce them to each other. A dragon and a human, in such a setting, they seemed to find no appropriate words to make them feel comfortable with each other, especially since they didn’t seem to have anything in common whatsoever.

A good person? What does that mean? Vero found it extremely interesting; she had never heard someone introduced in such a manner before. What constitutes a good person? And by what criteria are they judged? Seeing the embarrassed look on Komer’s face, the slight sourness Vero felt earlier dissipated completely. It seemed that Miss Shatima’s relationship with Komer wasn’t what she had imagined earlier; at least the term "good person" didn’t seem to apply to someone with an extraordinary relationship with him.

Hearing Komer introduce her in such a way, Shatima was quite pleased, pouting her attractive red lips and showing a charming smile on her face.

Shatima tried her best to show off her charm in front of Vero, gaining confidence from Komer’s introduction. In her memory, Komer had rarely spoken of her in such terms. A good person, at least, was a positive compliment, much better than his often dismissive or mocking comments about her being simple-minded or behaving improperly in social interactions. It seemed that Komer did have a good impression of her, at least he didn’t denigrate her in front of the woman he held in high regard.

"Miss Vero, I’ve heard a lot about you from Komer. Seeing you today, I realize you’re really beautiful. Um, you have a scent, an indescribable scent that is different from everyone else."

Disarmed by Komer’s words, Shatima suddenly realized she should engage in conversation with the uniquely charming girl before her. Perhaps she could learn how to attract more attention in human society without having to rely on her fists or feminine curves. Although Shatima wasn’t particularly sensitive to people’s gazes, she was aware that the men’s glances were either due to her notorious temper or drifted towards her ample bosom and curvaceous backside, none of which were particularly pleasing.

"Really? What sort of unique scent do I carry?" Vero, too, was amused by the girl who seemed too "innocently kind" and straightforward. Despite her young age, the mature figure of the woman before her seemed more naïve, speaking with a slight childlike tone, which made Vero eager to understand what kind of girl she was and what role she played by Komer’s side.

"Hmm, I can’t quite put my finger on it right now, but you’re different from Eve, Grace, and Lome. You make me feel comfortable, hmm, someone I really want to get close to," Shatima nodded earnestly, explaining carefully.

"Oh, really? I like you too, Miss Shatima, and I sincerely hope we can become good friends. This is my second time in the Caucasus, but Komer hardly ever has the time to show me around. With Miss Shatima’s company, I think I won’t be lonely." Glancing at Komer, who was awkwardly scratching his head, Vero smiled coyly, her captivating eyes twinkling like stars.

"Sure, sure, I’m just an idle person here in the Caucasus; they all have their own affairs, and I’m the only one without anything to do. Your arrival is perfect; I can accompany you around and act as your bodyguard, ensuring you’re completely safe." Shatima, who had returned from Livonia and was already bored to death, was thrilled to find a companion; Komer was happy to let the two of them hang out together.

Komer was puzzled by Vero’s arrival at this time, considering the imminent war between the Caucasus and Homer, with Galle, as Philip’s most loyal ally, being very likely to get involved in the conflict. Vero’s special status presented a dilemma; Komer didn’t want to go to war with Galle, but if Galle chose to intervene, he felt helpless.

Komer was infuriated because there was not a single piece of intelligence from Maha Gummi about why Vero suddenly appeared in Ugru. Vero wasn’t a priority for the intelligence department, and Komer had never thought to keep track of her whereabouts. Currently, Komer truly didn’t have the energy to pay attention to Vero, but fortunately, Shatima did indeed solve a big problem for Komer by accompanying Vero around. Ugru’s prosperity and the diverse customs of various races living together piqued Vero’s curiosity. Such a journey wouldn’t be dull even after three to five days.

With her slightly curled hair casually draped over one cheek, Vero, now dressed in an embroidered nightgown, looked ethereal and enchanting, like a fairy from the abode of a forest goddess. She sat on the bed with her legs curled up, the dim light of a solitary lamp casting a soft glow over the two of them.

Casually brushing away the strands of hair that almost obscured her eyes, Vero listened intently to Komer recount his adventures after being cast into the Spatial Rift by Noyola and Lorenzo to the Southern Mediterranean. From the Giganthia Temple on Zago Island to Athens City in Sparta, from Mount Olympus to Flanders, from Red-haired queen Katerina to Saint Klepper and Helena, Komer’s eloquence always shone when he narrated to the women he admired, leaving Vero at times gasping with her hand on her chest and at other times covering her mouth in astonishment. Such a bizarre and dramatic series of events would be a rare chance for anyone, filled with risks and bloodshed, but also with splendid memories to last a lifetime.

"Oh, Komer, I never imagined you could have such bizarre and fantastic adventures. Comparing your thrilling life to mine, I feel like I’ve been leading a monastic existence. I regret not having the courage to defy my father’s wishes and join you; perhaps then, I could have shared such experiences with you."

With charming complaints and expressing sentiments through her glances, the girl’s graceful allure plucked at Komer’s heartstrings, tickling him in a way that was hard to ignore. However, her next words immediately brought Komer back to his senses: "But, I don’t think you mentioned the origins of this kind individual, Miss Shatima. How exactly did she come to be by your side?"
