Chapter 775: Volume 23: Rising Winds and Swirling Clouds, Chapter 12: Rain is About to Come
The Mage Corps of the Caucasus brought the Barbarian Warriors a magic performance, so dazzling that it left the Barbarians utterly speechless. They gaped at the overwhelmingly powerful display, completely defenseless. After witnessing a series of Wind Magic Arrays and large-scale Earth Magic, seven squads of Barbarian Warriors were totally petrified. This satisfied Komer, yet also worried him somewhat. It was clear that these Barbarians’ ability to defend against Magic Attacks was painfully inadequate. Although many were veterans of the Southern wars, those conflicts had been traditional in nature. They lacked the necessary experience and psychological endurance to deal with unconventional attacks such as Magic Attacks. To mold this army into a qualified force was evidently a long and arduous journey.
Even representatives from Heinem who were prepared were completely astonished by the display of humanity’s intellectual essence. Observing the ground split open instantaneously to create huge gaps and traps that swallowed everything on the surface, watching wind blades sharp as metal weapons completely shred wooden stakes used as props, the Mountain people’s representatives were, without exception, struck silent. It was at this moment they realized that the unassuming Lord before them was far from simple; no one could assert how much unknown Power he truly wielded.
Standing on the Review Platform, Komer certainly wouldn’t let such an opportunity slip by. While the Mage Corps’ performance was creating a psychological impact on the Mountain people warriors, he also continuously cast several types of Psychic Magic such as "Intimidation," "Pressure," and "Divine Authority." These similar but unique Psychic Magic comprehensively projected the imposing image of Komer, standing on the Review Platform, into the warriors’ hearts. At that moment, even individuals like those from Heinem felt an irresistible impulse to fall to their knees and worship.
"Warriors, I am delighted to see Mountain people fighters from the Cordillera Wilderness standing under the flag of the Caucasus Lord. This signifies a fact—that the brave Mountain people have joined Our Greater Caucasus, becoming a member of our glorious and great Greater Caucasus. As warriors of the Mountain people, I look forward to seeing the Mountain people’s bravery demonstrated through your actual performance in the Caucasus Self-Defense Forces. Do not betray the expectations your compatriots have of you."
Komer’s speech was full of implications and ambiguity, a rare chance he needed to teach these Mountain people a lesson at this optimal moment and to instill in them as much as possible the concept of loyalty they needed to understand.
"You have all witnessed the members of Our Caucasus Army, and you too will become one of them. But before that, there are a few things I need you to understand."
"Firstly, you should understand that you are no longer masterless Mountain people from the Cordillera Wilderness. You are first and foremost Caucasians; Mountain people is merely your race. Like Half-Beastmen, Half-Elves, and Mortals, you are Mountain people of the Caucasus, you are Citizens of the Caucasus, and most importantly, you are honorable Soldiers of the Caucasus Self-Defense Army! Defending the Caucasus, fighting for the Caucasus, that is your sole creed, and I am the only Lord you serve!"
Despite knowing such language might seem too blunt and straightforward for Mortals, Komer knew that for races like Half-Beastmen and Barbarians, this method would make it clearer what they needed to do.
Komer carefully observed the Mountain people’s reactions; after all, they had fundamental differences from the Half-Beastmen and Half-Elves. They had a longstanding enmity with Mortals. While not having substantial conflict with the Caucasus, as a collective, these Mountain people had been at war with Mortals, especially in the South. At least one thousand of these three thousand five hundred Mountain people warriors had partaken in battle against Mortals, and now they had become citizens of a region largely inhabited by Mortals, the Caucasus. This stark contradiction required considerable effort to fundamentally overhaul their mindset.
The relationship between the Half-Beastmen, Half-Elves, and the Barbarians was also anything but harmonious, especially for the Half-Beastmen, whose competitive relationship had led to direct opposition on various issues. Initially, the Half-Beastmen held an upper hand as landed gentry, but now that the Mountain people had gained legitimate citizen rights in the Caucasus, they naturally wouldn’t tolerate the current disadvantageous situation. They would assertively maintain their legal rights, inevitably intensifying the conflict. However, all this needed to fall within certain Restrictions, something Komer had subtly intimated to the upper echelons of the Barbarians. In the Caucasus, all conflicts must bow to one overarching principle: they cannot infringe on the overall interests of the Caucasus nor contradict the Caucasus Army’s strategic interests. At this critical time, Komer would not allow the armed force he painstakingly assembled to become the source of unrest in his territory; he would not tolerate such a situation.
"Brave Mountain people, you have seen the performance of your comrades. Whether it’s the valiance of the Half-beastman warrior, the precision of the Half-elf Crossbowman, or the ferocity of the Mortal Mage, I believe their performance has also left a profound impression on you. I hope you take them as your role models and within the shortest possible time, make the transition from a Mountain people soldier to a Caucasian Soldier. Our Caucasus does not need Soldiers who lack discipline or do not follow orders, no matter how skilled they might be individually. The Military’s combat effectiveness is built upon absolute obedience to orders, a fact you have surely now witnessed. I hope to see, in three months’ time, a magnificent Mountain people’s Army of the Caucasus!"
The Mountain people soldiers, completely lost under Komer’s series of performances and psychological strikes, had already lost their proud arrogance after watching the displays by the Half-Beastmen and Half-Elves. Further emotionally shaken by the Mage Corps’ performance, they were led by Komer’s intentional Psychic Magic into unparalleled adoration for Komer himself. As Komer’s tone shifted, rekindling their courage and self-confidence, even Heinem and his company found themselves unreservedly accepting Komer’s absolute authority, an awareness not even Heinem himself had realized.
