Chapter 768: Volume 23: Rising Winds and Swirling Clouds, Chapter 6: Well Played!
A subtle magic fluctuation entered Komer’s sea of consciousness. Komer lifted his head, an expectant look on his face, "Oh, it seems I’m the last to know. Our guests have already arrived. Why not invite them in?"
Seeing the bewildered expressions on Fran and Puber’s faces, Komer became even more certain. These people only wanted to use Fran, and they hadn’t even informed Fran of their movements. This put Komer more at ease. He was not keen to witness someone he trusted betray him; that would only prove his own failure in judgement.
"Respected Lord Komer, please forgive our intrusion. We mean no harm, and we believe we have every reason to join forces in the face of the ever-changing landscape of the Continent," a clear and resonant voice came from outside the door, filled with an attractive magnetic power, reminiscent of Psychic Magic. However, Komer knew it was not Psychic Magic but the natural tone of voice, which startled him and piqued his curiosity.
"Really? To face the changing landscape of the Continent? Haha, I do wish to see who has the audacity to make such sweeping statements, daring to dismiss the Church of Light and the Beastmen as if they were nothing," Komer became even more composed, his arms crossed, calmly watching the doorway.
Two figures suddenly appeared at the entrance. The Half-beastman Guards in the hall didn’t even see where the two figures came from, only feeling a blur before them as the two walked into the study.
A mysterious smile appeared on Komer’s lips. Although he was full of admiration inwardly, he displayed no hint of surprise outwardly. Indeed, masters of the craft, who managed to use such subtle Spatial Illusion Magic and Flight Technique in such a narrow and complex corridor, evading even his own detection of the spatial fluctuations, relying solely on his six senses, rudimentary as they were. This level of Spatial Magic alone could secure them a place amongst the Continent’s many masters in the magical community.
The two men standing before Komer were strikingly different in appearance. One was tall and robust, his square face with deeply set eyes glinting faintly gold, unforgettable at first sight, while the other was a man with an ordinary face, easily forgotten the moment you glanced away.
"Lord Komer, I am Welch Medoff, and this is my assistant, Clark Dos," the tall man said. His mere presence made Fran and Puber feel as though they were suffocating, but this pressure seemed to fade into nothingness before Komer.
Welch Medoff? The shock in Komer’s heart was indescribable. So, it was him!
No wonder Fran, such a figure, could be persuaded to willingly become a spokesperson and vanguard for the other party!
No wonder Marco City’s information system had no knowledge of this sudden upheaval!
This individual, second only to Pope Julius II in Marco City, was the Golden Hall General Affairs Saint of the Church of Light! In terms of rank, he was even slightly superior to the two Archbishops Watzinsky and Frenster. However, under the brilliance of the Pope, his role seemed diminished. As a result, people more often noticed the Pope and the two Archbishops who handled specific affairs, and even the prominence of the Religious Court overshadowed his role. But this did not mean his power, and the power he represented, could be ignored!
"Saint Welch, oh, your visit to Bruce Fortress brings glory to the whole of Greater Caucasus. Does this mean the Holy Light of the Church of Light has now illuminated every corner of Greater Caucasus?" In an instant, Komer composed himself, his quickly whirling thoughts trying to grasp the implications.
What did the arrival of these people signify? Had the Church of Light split? Or was he starting anew? Several thoughts leapt through Komer’s mind, but he soon dismissed these wild speculations, for there was only one reason: a figure lurking in the shadows was stepping forward. If they dared to come out, it meant they were confident enough!
"Haha, Lord Komer, you do have a sense of humor. However, it does not seem the time for jokes," said Welch, his golden eyes dull yet sharp in their plainness, commanding a respect not to be underestimated.
"Unexpected, truly unexpected. Despite all my calculations, I never imagined that the mastermind behind the Salvation Society would be a major player like you. No wonder I have always found the Salvation Society’s willingness to work with me a bit odd. I must admit, you have played your hand beautifully! Truly beautifully!" Komer’s face was full of admiration.
Welch, for the first time, realized that the character before him was no mere stanceholder on this land. An Archmage or a Magic Instructor was not extraordinary, but such a character, meticulous in thought, was indeed worth assessing as a collaborator.
"Lord Komer, I am truly impressed that you grasped the situation so quickly. Correct, I have always supported the Salvation Society. The teachings of the Salvation Society are what we endorse and strive to realize. I believe, on this point, Lord Komer’s various strategies share the same ingenious essence as ours, do they not? That’s why we have chosen to cooperate with you, Lord Komer, and it’s a collaboration given with our whole heart,"
