Chapter 763: Volume 23: Rising Wind and Scudding Clouds. Chapter 1: Chaos like Hemp_2

Hayreddin, in his letter, mentioned a problem in addition to the request to establish a fleet. It was that the maritime adventurers from the southern countries were advancing towards the Continent with increasing vigor. The number of colonies, colonial villages, and even colonial towns on the Mediterranean coast of the Continent was rapidly growing. With a large number of expeditions entering, especially those officially supported by the governments of various countries and city-states, the veil of mystery that shrouded the Continent’s surface was gradually lifted, revealing its abundant riches bit by bit and attracting more people.

From originally just adventurers and exploration teams to desperate thieves, villains, rogues, and exiled criminals on the Blue Continent, to impoverished people yearning for a better, wealthier life, and finally to scientific expedition teams consciously sent by the officials of various nations and city-states along the Nether Sea and the Mediterranean coast, the Continent’s riches were increasingly drawing people’s attention. Were it not for the Mediterranean’s and the Nether Sea’s volatile climates, which still gave many people pause, the tracks of conquest by the nobility might have already spread swiftly along the coasts of the Continent. However, even so, some maritime city-states and countries had begun to realize that this land without masters would eventually become a contested area among coastal powers. Therefore, taking the initiative to occupy a strategic position was undoubtedly a wise move.

The letter from Hayreddin also included a number of rough maps of the Continent around the Nether Sea and the Mediterranean region, densely marked with colonial outposts of various countries and city-states along the Nether Sea coast and the Southern Mediterranean Region. The coast of the North Mediterranean remained a vague blank, an area untouched by other colonizers. Because the opposite shore of the North Mediterranean was the Cordillera Wilderness, there were no human cities within the shortest distance, so colonizers preferred to choose an area closest to their motherland as a beachhead, and then develop around this foothold. Therefore, relatively speaking, the chance of colonization along the North Mediterranean coast was smaller.

But the more important reason was the deeply indented eastern coast of the Continent along the North Mediterranean. If a colony were to be established there, it would be almost twice as far from one’s homeland than a colonial outpost in the Southern Mediterranean or along the Nether Sea coast. For a fleet, such a distance was nearly fatal, whether in terms of logistical support or crew morale.

Komer had to admit that Hayreddin’s performance was quite outstanding. He had not limited his attention to the tasks he was assigned. While fully committed to the goals he was given, Hayreddin also expanded his focus to the surrounding areas, especially as city-states and countries in the Southern Mediterranean Region turned their attention to the Continent. Hayreddin also keenly realized that the progressive unveiling of the Continent could bring a whiff of fresh air to the transformation of the Blue Continent. However, what kind of change this fresh air could bring to the transforming Blue Continent was something Hayreddin could not determine.

Hayreddin prudently suggested that if conditions allowed, the Caucasus could dispatch one or two of its own exploration teams to enter the midsection of the Continent for colonial exploration. It would be ideal to establish one or two colonial outposts to ensure the interests of the Caucasus Region on the Continent. In preparation, Hayreddin had already found several small islands with freshwater in the east of the North Mediterranean as supply bases, laying a solid foundation for the next step of colonial exploration.

This proposal was very tempting to Komer, but Komer knew that such a plan couldn’t be realized in just a day or two. It needed a far-reaching plan and a strong, supportive government, as well as a powerful navy for security. However, Komer believed that this day would inevitably come, and therefore, the preparations suggested by Hayreddin were not mere flights of fancy.

Hoffman’s face twisted into a hideous sneer as the momentum he had carefully accumulated was completely crushed by the show of force from the southwest. To coax these great aristocrats into contributing their private soldiers to bolster the Blood Lion Corps, Hoffman had spared no expense, making countless promises and assurances to persuade these lords to part with their troops, forming the framework of the Blood Lion Corps. Even the most capable officers from the Royal Guard of the Kingdom and the Knights’ regiments had been reassigned to serve as military officers within the Blood Lion Corps, ensuring it operated like a true corps. Seeing how things in the southwest had reached a point where everyone was on edge, some opportunistic nobles even tried to curry favor, only to be utterly discouraged by the sudden emergence of the Half-beast Army.

Hoffman hadn’t overlooked the Caucasus’s Half-beast Army, but it had never crossed his mind that they would emerge by crossing through the Little Greenland Forest. The impact and significance of the Half-beast Army far exceeded their actual worth.

Hoffman didn’t believe that the mere existence of a Half-beast Army could match the might of his Blood Lion Corps, along with the support of the Knights’ regiment and the Court Mage Corps. However, the issue was that his own side’s morale had been significantly dampened by the enemy. The whole Kingdom of Nicosia was abuzz with talks about the formidable combat prowess of the Half-beast Army, and now, nobody believed that Katya would bow down to him under these circumstances. Instead, some nobles were worried that if the Half-beast Army were to attack, it might cause chaos similar to the beastmen in the north, plunging the central region of the kingdom into total anarchy. If that happened, his own power base would completely collapse, and the few Great Lords who outwardly still supported him might seize the opportunity to declare independence. Hoffman dared not think further about such a scenario.

"Onia, I need the help and support of the Court Mage Corps, especially at this time. If we can defeat that crude Half-beast Army, I will grant the Church of Light even more privileges. Thus, I hope you can invite more mages from Marco to assist me. Please believe me, it won’t take long, at most two months, and everything will clear up!" Hoffman had to suppress the fire within him as he stared at the other party, speaking word by word.

"I’m sorry, Your Highness Hoffman, I’m afraid I have to disappoint you. I understand your feelings at this moment, but Marco has already ordered our Church of Light not to intervene in the internal disputes of the kingdom. Additionally, due to the beastmen’s frequent activities, the countries of the Northern Alliance are under considerable pressure. As the mortal guardians, our Church of Light must first focus on the activities of the beastmen. Therefore, for the time being, some of our mages from the Church of Light will be returning to Marco. However, please believe that it won’t be for long. Once the situation in the north stabilizes, and after I have reported the problems of the Kingdom of Nicosia in detail to Grand Archon Vazinsky and the others, I believe Marco will soon give you a definite response."

Onia had to show a regretful expression on his face, but the gleam in his eyes was undiminished. He was genuinely unable to fulfill the wish of this successor of the King. At present, the beastmen’s activities were rampant, particularly with the emergence of shamanic powers that had disrupted the power balance in the Northern Region of the continent. Clearly, the beastmen were adept at concealing their power; their shamanic powers could not have been developed and prepared in less than twenty years to create such an impressive display and to challenge the human mages. This had caught the Church of Light, which had long led the Northern Continent, off guard. If they didn’t quickly reverse this decline, Onia pessimistically estimated, the Church of Light’s dominant position in the north would face a serious challenge, and one obvious trend was the sudden resurgence of the Cooperation Society, which had been quiet for many years.
