Chapter 757: Volume 22: Revival and Rise Chapter 16: Fortunate Romance Trade

Komer leaned quietly against the head of the bed, his exposed muscular chest indicating he was no longer the frail young man he was two years ago. Draped in a silk pajama, no one could tell that just two years earlier, he was an exile in the barren lands of Caucasus; and now, he was among the most sought-after figures throughout the Kingdom of Nicosia.

Even among the noble families in major cities like Jazair or Gutenberg, silk pajamas were a rare luxury. It was said they were made from dried liquid spat by a certain insect from the Continent. Not only were they smooth and fine, but also impressively light and breathable. They had become the latest popular trend among the nobility, who competed fiercely for them. However, such items were exceedingly scarce. The merchant ships from the colonies on the Continent could often only carry three to five pieces as eye-catching centerpieces, each costing thousands of Gold Shields, truly worth their weight in gold.

The calm after the storm allowed Komer to savor and reflect on the woman standing in front of the window. The bare back on display defied simple descriptions like "smooth and supple." The afternoon sunshine spilled over the roof and caressed her skin, casting a soft pink allure. Her court hairstyle, perhaps a little disheveled from the earlier tempest, with wisps of hair falling gently onto her tender shoulders.

Even Komer hadn’t anticipated such a fortuitous turn of events. Although Princess Katya was strikingly beautiful, he had always preferred to keep his distance from such women. However, if she offered herself to him, even Komer found her hard to refuse. He knew there would be complications, but facing such a temptress, Komer couldn’t find any reason to reject her, and everything seemed to fall into place naturally. The wild frolic he had imagined didn’t happen; instead, Katya’s inexperience took Komer by surprise. The princess, known for her libertine reputation, turned out to be untouched, which made Komer somewhat hesitant. Although noblewomen didn’t place much importance on such matters, she was still an heir of the pureblooded Romanov lineage. If he partook in this "forbidden fruit," the consequences could be unpredictable.

But ultimately, desire overcame reason, and Komer didn’t want to back down at a moment like this. Even if he had to pay some price, he would accept it; retreating now would be too damaging to a man’s pride.

Even Komer was unsure when Katya had moved to stand before the window, her naked body shamelessly facing the outside. Although the window overlooked the private garden of his manor, where outsiders couldn’t possibly enter, such an outrageous act still surprised him.

With a soft sigh, Komer got up and draped the pajama over her. Even without love, it didn’t mean they couldn’t coexist peacefully. Everyone had desires, which simply varied in nature. Komer understood her intentions well. He thought this straightforward approach, although not something to share with others, was preferable to something that could cause aversion.

"Komer, now can we talk about your conditions?" she asked, lightly tossing the ribbon stained with specks of blood out the window. The red and white ribbon fluttered down in the wind lit by the sunlight, silently falling amidst the branches and leaves of the garden. Katya seemed exceptionally calm, as passion often gives way to a more rational perspective on matters, and she believed she could do just that.

"Katya, do you think I’m being deliberately difficult and trying to get something out of you?" Komer felt a surge of indignation, understanding her character all too well, but finding it hard to stomach such pragmatism.

"If I understood wrongly, I apologize, but I want to know your true thoughts. I need your help. Palermo told me you weren’t ready, is that true? If so, what needs to happen for you to be?" Katya ignored what she saw as Komer’s pretense and pressed directly.

With a self-deprecating smile, Komer shook his head, "It seems Palermo misunderstood my words. I only said I needed more time to prepare, but I never said I couldn’t be ready, nor did I have any demands for it. Since you put it that way, I’d like to ask what kind of preparation you think is sufficient?"

Taken aback by Komer’s candid response, Katya paused for a moment, then said, "Komer, you should know what I need most now. You once promised me something, and with the situation as it is, I have no way out. I need your support and help, and you’re the only one who can provide it. If you want to go back on your word, I have nothing more to say."

Komer exhaled deeply; it seemed Princess Katya held deep convictions about him, verging on a mixture of wariness and distrust, which made Komer feel he had failed as a person.

"Of course, I know what Your Highness needs most, but I always believed I was ready. It only requires Your Highness to indicate when it’s most opportune for them to make their entrance, or else it might bring too many negative consequences. I fear it might harm Your Highness’s great cause," Komer said with a helpless spread of his hands.

"Oh?" Her spirits lifted sharply, and the flush that had just faded returned to Katya’s cheeks. Her sparkling eyes fixed intently on Komer’s face, as if searching for traces of deceit, "You mean to say you are fully prepared? Where are they? In Caucasus?"

With a bitter smile, Komer couldn’t help but lower his head with a silent sigh. It seemed his credibility had plummeted among these nobles, showing how poorly his image was regarded by them.

"Well then, Your Highness, it appears that mere words from me won’t be enough to dispel your doubts. To prove my sincerity, I’d like to invite you to visit the southern part of Quke Valley," said Komer with a shrug: "I believe after this inspection, you can rest assured."

The joy and exhilaration brought back by Princess Katya from her southern tour had kept her awake through the night. The two thousand fierce Half-beast soldiers were well-disciplined and maintained strict order. Although she was no expert in military affairs, even she could tell from the exercises overseen by the Beastmen officers that this was not merely a ragtag band. Aside from the formidable strength of the Half-beasts, the skillful tactical maneuvers and surging morale assured Katya to a great extent. Her only regret was their limited number of two thousand. If such a force could be expanded to five thousand to ten thousand, she was confident she could swiftly secure the crown she had long coveted.
