Chapter 704: Volume Twenty: Wolf in the Mediterranean Chapter Twelve: Dark Turmoil
"Oh? Mr. Aristotle resides in Sparta?" Surprised, Komer hadn’t expected that this martial saint, who was already akin to a god, would settle in Sparta. As far as he knew, this warrior saint had already been missing for many years.
"No, no, Mr. Karadin, Mr. Aristotle wanders free as the clouds and wild cranes. We don’t know where he is, but he has two disciples who have completed their apprenticeships and are Spartans. Prince Slupig and Mr. Kaiserlon are Mr. Aristotle’s proud disciples. Knight Kaiserlon is currently the chief swordsman of the kingdom’s royal swordsmen regiment, and Prince Slupig is the Corps Commander of the kingdom’s Olive Leaf Knights regiment. Although they generally don’t participate in the Olympia Championships, if the gladiator competition’s champion isn’t a Spartan, they will not hesitate to step in to prove that we Spartans will not be overshadowed by anyone," bragged Kamado, pride evident in his voice.
So that’s how it is! It was then that Komer realized how strong the Spartans’ sense of pride was—they couldn’t bear the thought of outsiders snatching their most coveted gladiator laurels. Even if outsiders did manage to do so, they would use this method to prove they had the power to defeat all challengers. Perhaps this was also a way to assert their status as the strongest land power in the Southern Mediterranean Region.
The grand opening ceremony lasted an entire day before it finally came to an end. People sang and danced through the streets of Athens City, and both official and civilian performance groups from around the Southern Mediterranean used the opportunity to showcase their talents. The streets and alleys of Athens City became their stage—a variety of dance performances and poetry readings, a blossoming of national costumes, and displays of local specialties turned Athens City into a sea of joy. This scene was said to continue until a week later when the Olympia Championship would conclude.
To Komer’s surprise, Xerob and his group arrived more quickly than expected. On just the third day of the Olympia festival, the two Grand Protective Popes of the Great Mysterium Sect who had been guarding Komer at the Grammy hotel had disappeared, replaced by Xerob and Uma.
From the first glance of the pair, Komer knew that Uma, the simple-minded fellow, had most definitely been persuaded and brainwashed by Xerob. Seeing that the once dull eyes now held a hint of fervor upon meeting him, Komer didn’t need to guess that Xerob had been feeding him a lot of fanciful tales recently. With Xerob’s eloquence and a shared goal and interest at hand, persuading Uma, who had been trapped in the Abyss for a hundred years with no visitors, was a piece of cake.
"Uma, I can understand your feelings, but let me remind you, it is no longer the same era that you lived in hundreds of years ago. You must know your identity too, mustn’t you? Even with Kennifer III’s supreme mana and the entire Dark Empire’s power, they still collapsed after the Church of Light united those secular forces. Do you honestly think that the Great Mysterium Sect can now just rise up and overturn the heavens and earth?" Komer coldly struck down the androgynous individual. The psyche of a woman paired with the physiology of a man was somewhat discomfiting to Komer, but he seemed to have trouble finding a suitable body, which might also be one of the main reasons Uma was so eager to start a war with the Church of Light.
"Dark Lord, we harbor no such unrealistic ideas. However, you should also be aware of the roots and power that our Great Mysterium Sect has in the South. You should feel the power of Prosis and Selamu. The Great Mysterium Sect has eight Protective Popes like them. Do you think the Church of Light’s power in the South can match ours?" Xerob maintained his usual calmness throughout, and it was this demeanor that made Komer interested in continuing the conversation. He was not at all interested in explaining things to someone as rigid and oblivious to the times as Uma.
"So, Xerob, what do you want to do? Completely destroy and eradicate the Church of Light’s influence in the South? Have you considered the potential reaction from the Church of Light, or the attitudes of these nations and city’s secular powers?" Komer mocked disdainfully, "You are overestimating the power of your Great Mysterium Sect. Sure, removing the Church of Light in the South might be simple for the Great Mysterium Sect, but you’re overlooking the secular power of these countries. They have always pursued a policy of religious freedom, and the influence of your Dark Lineage, including the Great Mysterium Sect, is very limited in these countries and cities, especially within the mainstream upper society. It can be said that your Great Mysterium Sect has wasted many opportunities that should have been seized long ago."
The Great Nether Envoy of the Great Mysterium Sect’s expression immediately turned solemn, "I am ignorant, Dark Lord. Please enlighten me."
"Xerob, your Great Mysterium Sect has a solid foundation in the South, and you also wield considerable influence among the middle and lower class people. However, it seems you have neglected an important factor—the perceptions of those who truly wield power in the secular world. You are too separate from these secular matters, which has resulted in your failure to make the secular power class truly recognize your strength or the surprising benefits you could bring them."
