Chapter 620: Volume 16: Mists and Illusions, Chapter 13: Head On Collision (3)
In fact, Rebury had already identified familiar faces among the group that had appeared. Clarence, the Chief Magician of the Homer Magic Team, a master of earth-based magic, was rumored to have some connections with significant figures within the Church of Light, yet he wasn’t a member of the Church; Burqin, a master within the Church of Light whose light magic was said to be close to the Archmage level, and although Rebury thought he still had a way to go before reaching the Archmage status, he was indeed a formidable figure; Deravak, also from the Church of Light, was said to be a bit of a slacker who had only average proficiency in light magic but was quite skilled with certain support magic; there was also Sheferley, who seemed to have quite an expertise in wood magic—Rebury knew of him but had never dealt with him.
The rest of the individuals Rebury did not recognize, and he guessed they must be members of the Homer Magic Team as well. He estimated the combined strength of these magicians to be far beyond what the three of them could handle. Although Clarence might not be quite as powerful as himself, the gap wouldn’t be significant, and Burqin was equally formidable. If Deravak were to assist as well, he would be undoubtedly defeated alone, and the other five magicians were not likely to be handled by Shatima alone; he wasn’t entirely convinced that Vladimir Koff could ensure victory against their seven knights. As for the knights, Rebury wasn’t well-versed in their capabilities and thus couldn’t make definitive judgments, but the fact that Vladimir Koff claimed to possess the Holy Light god-spear was testimony enough to the opponent’s formidable power.
"Mr. Vladimir Koff, it seems we’ve really hit the jackpot. These guys must be from Homer’s side. I recognize a few of the magicians; they are members of the Homer Magic Team. I guess those knights must be masters from the Homer Knight Order. What they’re doing at Ice Lake remains unknown—perhaps they’ve come to hunt here for the opportunity," Rebury mused, squinting his eyes and stroking his chin.
"Mr. Rebury, what do we do now?" Vladimir Koff asked directly, forgoing any superfluous talk, wanting to get to the heart of the matter: fight, retreat, or observe from a distance?
"Vladimir Koff, aren’t you stating the obvious? Take them down. Isn’t Homer’s magician our primary target? Now that these guys are all here, it’s a golden opportunity. Why the hesitation, why stand around doing nothing?" Shatima was furious. What were these two plotting secretly? Such an opportunity had literally come knocking at their door, and here they were, exchanging banalities.
"Miss Shatima, you seem to think it’s too easy. Let’s not even mention their knights. They have eight magicians on their side. To my knowledge, some possess strength comparable to mine. Even if we ambush them, it’s unlikely we’d succeed, and we might end up trapped here. We need to be cautious and ensure that we capture them all in one fell swoop," Rebury glanced sideways at the beautiful dragon woman and said with a sly smile, "Miss Shatima, these magicians are not weak. You don’t plan to take them all on by yourself, do you? If you’re confident about that, I’m willing to leave the seven knights to Mr. Vladimir Koff and myself."
Even Shatima, as naïve as she might be, could detect the mockery in his words and blushed, "No, you human magicians have too many tricks; I can’t handle eight, but one or two would be manageable. And since we’re talking about ambushing, I believe I can take down two or three."
"Hmm, if we act, we must eliminate them all, leaving no future troubles, or it would only spoil everything," Rebury shook his head.
"Then what should we do? Are we supposed to just watch them slip away from right in front of us?" Shatima couldn’t accept such an outcome.
After a brief assessment of the relative strength of both sides, Rebury determined that they shouldn’t act rashly. The magic message was sent out at once, and Lord Komer would receive the transmission within a few minutes. Now it all depended on whether they could arrive in time.
"Miss Shatima, keep calm. I have already sent a message to Lord Komer. Now we just have to see if they can make it in time. If he, along with Mihailovich and Solonberg, can arrive promptly, we may have a fierce battle awaiting us. If they can’t make it, then with just the three of us, we might have no choice but to watch them leave," Rebury said, his gaze still fixed on the group of people moving opposite, where the boundary between magicians and knights was clearly divided into two groups. It seemed they were attempting to capture some prey and, perhaps being new to the area, had not made any significant moves, still appearing to be observing the situation.
"Heh, these guys don’t seem to be on their guard at all. If we attack now, I’m confident I could kill two or three magicians instantly!" Shatima said, licking her glaringly red lips with an unsatisfied look, her ice-blue eyes rolling restlessly, "Wait for Komer and the others to come? Where are they now? What if they’re still south of the Nissai River? What then?"
"What should we do, Miss Shatima? Then we have no choice but to give up and look for another opportunity," said Vladimir Koff, equally aware that they couldn’t risk a battle so hastily. Against so many magicians, it wasn’t like a one-on-one fight where you can use other means to escape if truly defeated. In the face of numerous magicians, any knight wanting to flee would have to first get past a barrage of magic attacks.
"Hmph! Coward! Fool!" Shatima muttered angrily and resentfully.
"Miss Shatima, please watch your language. Who are you calling a coward? Who is the fool?" Vladimir Koff got a bit heated. This woman was too presumptuous!
"Isn’t it cowardly to not dare to challenge because the opponent is strong? Why does that guy Komer have to linger at the back and not move with us? Isn’t that stupid?" Shatima argued irrationally.
Facing this obstinate and unreasonable woman, Vladimir Koff was so angry he was at a loss for words. Under the gaze of Rebury, who signaled with his eyes, Vladimir had to clench his teeth and endure it. Keeping such a woman’s company was indeed a pain.
Komer received the magical message from Rebury almost immediately, and at that moment, he, Mihailovich, Uma, Newman, and Solonberg had just crossed the Nissai River and entered the Greenland Forest. This type of magic message had high requirements; besides both the sender and receiver needing to be proficient in a particular magic messaging technique, the purity of their magic power also had to be high. If the magic power was impure, the magic message would be greatly compromised. In all of Caucasus, only Komer, Rebury, Lome, and Uma could barely accomplish this, while even Mihailovich was not familiar with this special magic.
The message Rebury sent through the magic message was very vague, as this technique could only convey somewhat simple information. The consumption of mental magic was quite substantial, and the failure rate was high, which is why, to be safe, Rebury sent the magic message twice. The content of the message only mentioned that Homer mages and knights were spotted by the Ice Lake, and Komer’s party was urgently requested to go there for a meet-up to set an ambush, without more detailed information. Although Komer wasn’t sure how many mages and knights there were or how strong they were, the fact that Rebury, Shatima, and Vladimir Koff were asking for help indicated that the opponents must be formidable. And the fact that the Homer Mage Corps had appeared by the Ice Lake seemed to present a golden opportunity.
Komer and his companions sped through the Greenland Forest at a nearly unimaginable pace, whether it was Komer, Mihailovich, Solonberg, or the several people in black robes behind them, as well as that expressionless and peculiar man. Under Komer’s leadership with his Wind System flying technique, each and every one of them displayed their unique skills, none falling behind because of the wind technique Komer conjured.
As Mihailovich flew through the Greenland Forest, he was quietly observing the line of people in black. Just as he expected, although they were all purposely concealing the origins of their magic power, a careful observation by Mihailovich still revealed some clues. These people, without exception, were dark magic practitioners whose foundation lay in Dark Magic Power. Although he could not immediately determine the specifics about these people, the abilities of the person leading them certainly wouldn’t be inferior to his own or Rebury’s, Mihailovich was sure of that.
The origins of these people piqued Mihailovich’s interest immensely. Such a large group of dark magic practitioners suddenly appearing in Caucasus was indeed shocking. Mihailovich knew that, in both the northern and central regions of Blue Continent, dark magic practitioners were barely clinging to life under the close surveillance of the Church of Light. People like himself had to hide in remote areas and secretly cultivate; otherwise, if discovered by members of the Church Tribunal, it would bring death upon them. Many dark practitioners on the Northern Continent perished at the hands of those butchers who proudly carried out their "exorcism" missions for the Tribunal. That such a potent group of dark practitioners could move in the Northern Continent without being detected by the omnipresent Church of Light was impossible, even in Caucasus, which could only mean these people came from the south. At this thought, Mihailovich nodded as if realizing something.
Komer’s party didn’t stop for a moment as they raced from the southeastern part of the Greenland Forest, crossing the Forest Trail to head straight for the Ice Lake located in the western part of the forest. They all knew that the Homer Mage Corps couldn’t possibly stay by the Ice Lake for long. Once they completed whatever they wanted to do, they would leave, and it would be a real shame to lose such a great opportunity. As Rebury, Shatima, and three others waited anxiously, Komer’s party finally arrived.
