Chapter 593: Volume 15: Thunder Shakes the Ground Chapter 11: In the Darkness (2)
Solonberg and Vladimir Koff both saw in each other’s eyes a firmness mixed with a trace of worry; the rather dire situation did not shake their combat will. Knights are warriors born for battle, retreat and fear never suited their creed. Nonetheless, this did not mean that knights were uncouth fools with simple minds. The horde of bizarre magical beasts and the undead creatures lurking behind were all seeking an opportunity. Their group was like a delivered delicacy, and these beings, trapped here for who knows how many years, could finally savour the essence of the living, which left them in an extremely agitated state. This situation was rather unfavorable for them.
The life force of the Demon Scorpions was exceedingly strong. Although Solonberg and Vladimir Koff had not yet truly encountered these magical beasts hidden beneath the ground, experience told them that magical beasts with strong vitality often used this advantage to launch attacks with extraordinary methods, and any slight carelessness could lead them into a trap. Strengthening their defensive force was of utmost importance. Solonberg and Vladimir Koff both cast Magic Shields upon themselves, while Rebry, standing behind them, not only fortified their knight armor on top of their Dark Magic Shields but also joined forces with Komer and Lome to activate a Light Magic Barrier that encompassed the whole group.
Though this Light Magic Barrier was not very powerful, as a spell of the Light Series, it could still affect the sudden assaults of dark magical beasts to some extent. Creatures like the shrieking Dark Magic Bats, which feared light, were much more sensitive to light-based spells compared to the more formidable beasts like the Demon Scorpions.
Dozens of Demon Scorpions spread out rapidly like a flood, taking up an attack posture along the defense line established by Komer’s party. Their bean-green eyes flashed fiercely, their pincers flailing up and down, while their stingers covertly lay close to the ground. Numerous crawling legs, like rows of oars, provided these creatures with their swiftest speed and thrust.
Shatima licked her lips excitedly. At this moment, a sense of imminent release and eruption enveloped her. The heavy Dragon Spear was held horizontally, and the fluctuating light blade showed that this genuine Super Dragon Warrior had elevated her Martial Power to its peak. Seeing the few strutting small vermin in front of her, Shatima could not help but find them laughable. When had it ever been the turn of these small critters to strut before the Dragon Clan? A strong desire to burst forth and showcase the grandeur of the Dragon Clan finally surged out at this moment.
The Dragon Spear, surging upward, created waves of pale blue brilliance. As Shatima let out a soft whistle, it transformed into a semi-circular ring of light. The sharp spear blade, at this instant, bloomed into a spectacularly dazzling Luminous Flame, like a comet exploding across the cosmos. A Demon Scorpion, caught in the forefront, saw its raised pincers shatter into several pieces in an instant, with its blackish fluid splashing everywhere as its body turned to fragments.
After a successful strike, Shatima could no longer control herself. She roared wildly, charging into the midst of the Demon Scorpions. Her Dragon Spear stirred up gusts of wind and thunder, striking all around unstoppable, and as her entire body’s dragon breath rose intentionally or unintentionally, the scent-sensitive Demon Scorpions all detected an odor that made them apprehensive. Yet, their fierce nature did not cause them to shy away from Shatima’s dragon breath; instead, seeing their kin butchered only ignited their crazed counterattack.
Suddenly, three Demon Scorpions sprang up into the air, their bodies splitting apart at the last moment after Shatima’s swinging Dragon Spear had sliced their pincers into six sections. Their huge stingers shot out from their bodies like three Javelins, striking with lightning speed at the unsuspecting Shatima. She had not anticipated such a destructive tactic from the small beasts. Seeing the stingers close in, she could not evade in time, but a large shield-shaped defense, brilliant with golden light, instantly flared up, reducing the three stingers that had penetrated the shield into fragments. The thick black fluid flowed down Shatima’s body.
The venom of the scorpions was of little concern to Shatima. As a member of the Dragon Clan, her natural immunity protected her against nearly all poisons, exempting only two or three of the most unique toxic substances. Having dodged this calamity, Shatima became even more frenzied. Excited by the Demon Scorpions’ scent and venom, which acted like stimulants, she reveled in combat for the first time in a long while. Since she was last besieged by a group of jellyfish ants, she had been waiting for an appropriate chance to unleash the pent-up frustrations within; today offered an opportunity that might not come again. Moreover, someone was shielding her—at a moment like this, how could she not exploit it to the fullest?
The circling Dragon Spear formed a vast pale blue disc in her hands, and there was a tendency for it to expand even further. The vibrating humming sound between the blades of light constantly split open, bursting forth with dazzling fireworks. Although the Demon Scorpions were fearless in death, facing a member of the Dragon Clan who was also in a frenzied state, their strong defense and stubborn vitality proved ineffectual against her. The Dragon Spear, imbued with the power of light magic, inflicted great damage to the Demon Scorpions with every outburst.
However, the Demon Scorpions were not completely passive. Despite seeming ineffective against the wild Shatima, their massive numbers, pouring over like quicksilver, nearly completely encircled Komer’s party in an instant. Leaping, stealthily striking from below, and dashing mid-air, although lacking in intelligence, their innate malicious inclinations made their attacks exceedingly complex. The Holy Light Spell could only cause superficial harm to them but not deep injuries. The stingers and venomous liquid spraying from them caused Komer’s group to be thrown into disarray, and the situation became fraught with danger. Unlike Shatima, immune to scorpion venom, a single droplet could deal a fatal blow to any of them.
