Chapter 587: Volume 15: Thunder Overturning the Earth Chapter 5: Grace
```
Standing up and stretching his body, Komer felt a sense of satisfaction. Being able to enjoy a moment of leisure in his private sanctuary amidst the busyness was indeed a supreme pleasure. This workshop was specially designed by Komer to train and enhance his own magic abilities. To the left was his own alchemy room, where the refining and concocting of various medicinal potions and powders was also one of Komer’s favorite indulgences.
Entering the quiet cultivation place on the right, Komer sat cross-legged on the bed, planning another session of meditation to cleanse and harmonize the magic power within his body. He had been so busy with state affairs lately that he had somewhat neglected this aspect. Aware an exploration was imminent, Komer hoped to enter the bunker in his best condition, knowing well that the second floor might not be as easy as the first—he did not wish to become prey for the undead creatures.
A clear, sharp alarm sounded within the room. Komer slightly furrowed his brows and opened his eyes. Who would dare to disturb him at this time? Surely, the fines and hard labor imposed on the previous few culprits hadn’t been lesson enough for these ignorant fools?
The crystal ball in the corner of the room began to glow, and a huge void image appeared in the middle of the room, revealing the surroundings of the quiet cultivation place with great clarity. A figure appeared outside the door, hesitating as it stopped and started but ultimately making its way towards the door.
Komer was surprised—it was Grace! What was she doing here? Did she not know this was his forbidden area?
"Komer! Komer! Are you there? I know you’re here, I need to talk to you." Perhaps it was an assassin’s innate sharp intuition that sensed the flow of magic breath at the door, Grace stopped and called out softly.
With a shake of his head, Komer knew his meditation for the day was ruined. He jumped off the bed and walked to the window, pressing a button. The air magic on the door activated and swung open, temporarily sealing off all the magic prohibitions along the verdant corridor leading to the quiet cultivation place.
Grace looked around in astonishment; with no one in sight, the door had simply opened. It was surprising, but Grace also knew that her former companion harbored many secrets, and such seemingly miraculous occurrences were nothing out of the ordinary for Komer.
She stepped inside, following the winding corridor to the end, arriving at a quiet courtyard surrounded by a ring of quiet cultivation place houses, each door tightly shut. Different pathways led to each silent room from the entrance, bordered by a peculiar variety of plants Grace had never seen before. They seemed as if they were alive, even aggressively locking on to her with a domineering aura.
Grace hesitated, stopping in her tracks. A door across from her opened, and Komer stood inside, "Come on in, Grace."
At that moment, Grace felt those plants receive some kind of command; although they appeared unchanged on the outside, the hostile and aggressive aura they emitted was suddenly concealed, much to her surprise and delight.
As Grace stepped into the room, she was immediately captivated by the crystal ball in the corner. The constantly rotating magic crystal, brimming with a dense magical aura, sparkled with flowing light and reflected various colors, looking exceptionally beautiful.
"Komer, what is this?" Grace couldn’t help but ask, driven by her curiosity.
```
"Oh, this is a Magic Surveillance Sphere. It’s a type of special Mixed Magic formed by merging Air Magic and Illusion Magic together. Nothing special, just a little trick," Komer said in a casual tone, but his underlying pride was unmistakable, "Would you like to see it perform, Grace?"
"Yes, I would!" Grace, who was candid and didn’t like to hide her feelings, nodded in agreement.
A surge of magic power emanated from Komer’s hand and hit the crystal ball, causing it to slow its rotation. The entire room seemed to ripple as if twisted by some sort of light, and a circular scene appeared before Grace and Komer.
Grace was so amazed that she covered her mouth with her hand. She could hardly believe her eyes; the scene before her was none other than the door to the Quiet Cultivation Place—the door was closed again, rows of neatly aligned cedar trees, and vines hanging on the doorframe swayed in the wind. The scene suddenly shattered like the surface of water disrupted by a stone, dissolving into ripples, then reformed. Now, a different scene appeared before Grace. This looked like the left side of the bamboo fence at the Quiet Cultivation Place. Dense vines wrapped tightly around the fence, and a cuckoo bird was lightly hopping along it. Grace could even make out the shape and color of the cuckoo’s beak—how magical!
Seeing Grace’s astonishment, Komer smiled, pointed his finger, and sent a stream of magic power through it. The crystal ball began to rotate rapidly again, and the images on the ground inside the room slowly faded into the dimness.
"Grace, you didn’t come just to watch this Magic Crystal’s performance, did you? Come, take a seat," Komer said, naturally taking Grace’s hand and pulling her to sit beside him.
Grace felt a bit bashful and wanted to pull away from Komer’s hand, but she succumbed under his steadfast gaze. It had been a long time since Komer had spent time alone with Grace like this. Since returning to the Caucasus, their meetings had become less frequent and mostly occurred when they were with other friends, resulting in even scarcer opportunities for private conversations. The unspoken affection that once existed between the two of them had seemingly faded, but now, as Komer held Grace’s hand, the affection hidden deep within him began to resurface.
She looked down, remained silent, and let Komer pull her close to sit beside him. Grace’s increasingly rapid breathing revealed that, beneath the surface, her heart was not as indifferent as she appeared. The corner of Komer’s mouth turned up in a smile as he thought to himself that this girl must be experiencing the first stirrings of love, always finding it hard to relax when alone with him. He wondered what had given her the courage to seek him out today, but it seemed inappropriate to broach a subject that could spoil the mood. There were now more pressing things that required his personal attention.
Gently picking up her hand and bringing it to his nose, Komer was slightly intoxicated by the faint scent, which made Grace even more uneasy. She wanted to articulate the purpose of her visit, but the current situation and her anticipation amidst her unrest made her hesitant, and she could only maintain her silence.
Realizing she did not rebuff him, the increasingly bold Komer presumptuously lifted her chin to look directly into her eyes. His clear gaze pierced into the depths of Grace’s somewhat shyly evading eyes and reached the bottom of her heart.
"Ah!" Grace tried to turn her face away from that penetrating gaze which seemed to see into the depths of her mind, but Komer tenderly cradled her cheek, prompting their eyes to meet. Unable to bear the intensity of his gaze any longer, Grace closed her beautiful eyes. The rapid rise and fall of her chest betrayed her emotions at that moment.
