Chapter 574: Volume Fourteen Accumulation Chapter Eighteen: Super Magical Bird
Komer’s words left the three men looking at each other in dumbfounded silence, at a loss for words. How could Komer have known about the secret of the Sanjia Tribe? From the exchange of glances among themselves, they understood that it was definitely not one of the three who had leaked the information, which only left the possibility of their subordinates being responsible.
Komer had learned this secret from those captured smugglers; originally, a considerable portion of the weapons and armor designated for the Sanjia Tribe was diverted to other tribes within the Mountain People Alliance. This was not considered a major issue, but by mentioning it at this time, he had a chance to knock the Sanjia Tribe down a peg—letting them know that he was omniscient and that they shouldn’t try to pull any stunts in front of him.
"Indeed, Sir Baron, I admit that some resources have flowed into other tribes, but please understand our predicament. After all, we too are members of the Alliance, and the Alliance’s covenant still binds us. Even if we find some of the commands unfair, we must still adhere to them. Our purpose today is to negotiate a new agreement. We hope to obtain more resources, especially food, and of course, this is a secret agreement that the Alliance will not be aware of. In return, our Sanjia Tribe will open up to Caucasus to a greater extent and provide assistance to the best of our capabilities under certain special circumstances. This includes offering more Earthwalking Dragons and helping you train mid-level and advanced Earth Dragon Warriors. We can also provide another rare creature from the Baden Gold Mountain Range in Cordillera Wilderness—the Thunder Peng."
As Chief Dvanch uttered the last sentence, Komer noticed that Bellamong seemed intent on stopping him, but after hesitating briefly, Dvanch still spoke out.
The Thunder Peng! This was one of the three great magical birds of the Cang Mang Continent, a formidable magical beast only found in the eastern part of the Cordillera Wilderness, in the Baden Gold Mountain Range. Possessing both wind and thunder-based magic, this fierce creature boasted an eight-meter wingspan and could fly as swiftly as the wind and descend like thunder striking the ground, making the common fierce beasts of the wilderness its best prey. On the Blue Continent, aside from the Qiu Yi Jian in the Mogan Wilderness, no other magical bird dared to compete with it; common birds would retreat at the mere sight of it. The Qiu Yi Jian was one of the beastmen’s prized flying soldiers.
In the wars against mortals and other species, the Barbarians’ Thunder Peng also played a significant role, especially in their attacks on mortal mages, which repeatedly proved effective. With a keen intuition for magic power, the Thunder Peng could quickly and accurately detect magical energy released by mages during spellcasting, even from a kilometer high in the air, swooping down to attack the mage in an instant. Barbarian Soldiers, trained as Thunder Peng Warriors, could even invoke some of the most basic thunder-based and wind magic without the need for scholarly study, which was quite a shock to the mortal armies that first encountered them. Humans who didn’t understand this suffered heavy losses at the time.
Komer was well aware of the Thunder Peng’s immense power. If he had even just three to five trained as Thunder Peng Knights, they could strike down key enemy figures seemingly effortlessly. Komer knew that despite the Barbarians’ pride in their Magic ability, they had not utilized the Thunder Peng’s full magical potential; instead, they mostly used it as a swift response weapon—a waste of potential. If Komer could train the Thunder Peng himself, he believed its magic attack capability would undoubtedly shine.
It seemed there was still some dissent within the Sanjia Tribe regarding handing over the Thunder Peng; at least Bellamong seemed quite averse to the idea, clearly not wishing such a deadly weapon with special applications to fall into Komer’s hands. However, it didn’t matter. Since Chief Dvanch had mentioned it, he was obviously prepared to pay the price. As for the Sike Leader, Komer believed that a private conversation might yield even more favorable terms.
The Barbarians’ ability to stand firm for centuries against combined assaults of mortals and other species, often gaining the upper hand with surprise troops, spoke volumes about their robust war strength. One important aspect was the Barbarians’ varied and complex array of unique troops, with Earth Dragon Warriors and Thunder Peng Knights being just a part. Often, it was these unique troops that would reverse the tides when the mortal and other species alliance held sway, even turning the tide of war.
Komer remembered several instances where the mortal side failed to succeed, thwarted at the last moment by these unique troops—concentrated breakthroughs by Earth Dragon Warrior units, assassination of commanders by Thunder Peng Knights, and surprise attacks from underground burrowing beasts. These had all troubled the mortal and other species alliance greatly. Komer knew that if he could control these unique troops, even a small force could have an unexpected impact.
"Chief Dvanch, are you suggesting that you can provide Thunder Pengs for Caucasus? I didn’t mishear, did I?" Although Komer knew that the offer came with a high price, he couldn’t help being excited. The Thunder Pengs were not like Earthwalking Dragons; their potential might not be as apparent now, but Komer was convinced that in his hands, the Thunder Pengs would reveal their full capability, particularly in attacks against enemy mages. Mages who thought they were safe behind the lines could find themselves dead in a flash during the crucial moment of spellcasting—a minor concern if it merely cost a life, but crucial if it delayed the opportunity to win a battle.
"You did not mishear. Not only can we provide you with Thunder Pengs, but we are also willing to assist in training Thunder Peng Knights for you, just as we would help you train mid- to high-level Earth Dragon Warriors. You can trust us completely, the Sanjia Tribe will be your most loyal friend," Chief Dvanch responded firmly without hesitation.
Komer’s gaze swept over the three faces and took a deep breath. This was probably the most alluring olive branch the Sanjia Tribe had ever offered. If he still refused, he might face more than just loss and missed opportunities; he could also potentially make an unnecessary enemy. Making an enemy of the Barbarians was hardly worth it.
