Chapter 542: Volume 13: Sea Rain and Heavenly Wind Chapter 12: The Demon Doctor

Komer wasn’t surprised by such a request from the Jellyfish People, as a magical plague that had tormented the Jellyfish People for centuries wasn’t something anyone would easily believe could be resolved. However, facts speak louder than words, and Komer believed that a satisfactory demonstration would be enough to silence everyone. If he didn’t have this confidence, his trip here would have been pointless, and would have done nothing but anger the Jellyfish People.

The facial expressions of the ten Jellyfish People before him were enough to show that they had lost all hope after being tortured by the symptoms, and their numb gazes stirred a certain unwillingness to watch in Komer’s heart.

In fact, this so-called curse of the Water God was not a punishment from the heavens; rather, it was a disease that manifested severely in people with certain special constitutions, and, unfortunately, the Jellyfish People’s unique constitution made them fall into this category.

When Komer traveled with his Master, his Master had discussed this issue with him. There were indeed ways to treat this disease, but given the Jellyfish People’s special way of life, eradicating it once and for all was difficult. It could be prevented and treated only by the frequent and continuous use of certain medicines, whose formulas were not complicated but required special methods to prepare.

When Komer took out a large bag of medicinal powder from his Cosmic Bag and poured it into the water, then released Fire Magic to rapidly bring the entire medicine to a boil, almost everyone was left wide-eyed by Komer’s near-pharmacist performance, including Rebry, Solonberg, and Grace.

They also had no idea that their Lord possessed such a skill. A Magic Pharmacist was a rarity among Magic Practitioners on the Continent, and it was extremely rare to find someone with such a dual identity as Komer.

As the large batch of medicine churned continuously in the cauldron, with the steam evaporating, the full pot of medicine slowly turned into half a pot of sticky, semi-solidified substance, Komer then ceased his magic.

"Alright, we can experiment now," Komer said, clapping his hands and shrugging his shoulders to the Jellyfish Pharaoh, Double Honor, and other important members of the Jellyfish Clan who had been watching his every move. When they learned that an outsider could dispel the magical curse that had entwined their clan for centuries, nearly all the leading figures of the Jellyfish Clan wanted to witness this experiment firsthand. Komer was more than happy to comply, as performing in front of them would make it easier to achieve his goals among the Jellyfish Clan. He welcomed this free publicity.

"Is this really enough?" Hotep looked at Komer with some surprise in his eyes, finding it hard to believe.

"Heh, it seems like Pharaoh Hotep is somewhat incredulous. I think we’ll let the facts speak for themselves," Komer said with a slight smile.

Immediately, some people came forward to tear open the clothing on the backs or legs of the first three Jellyfish People, who were lying on the ground awaiting death. What they saw was a sight so appalling it was unbearable to look at: festering flesh spread over the entire body, with raw red flesh and coagulated blood intermingled, an odor of decay permeating the air. Some medicine smeared on the wounds was obviously ineffective.

Komer frowned slightly, a gesture immediately noticed by Saint Iris, "Mr. Komer, is it that the condition of these clan members is so bad that the curse cannot be lifted?"

"No, no, Saint Iris, you misunderstand. I was just thinking about how they have been able to endure such excruciating pain. I can’t help but admire the endurance of your people," Komer sighed and shook his head.

"If we don’t endure, what else can we do? Should we let them end it themselves?" The leaders of the Jellyfish Clan revealed a sad look in their eyes. They were helpless in the face of their people’s suffering, which they saw as a humiliation for themselves as leaders. This situation had persisted for hundreds of years and did not begin on their watch, leaving them helpless to change it.

"Yes, it really is the most tragic thing. Seeing them in such pain also fills me with distress," said Komer with a face full of compassion. "Please apply this ointment to their wounds, spread it evenly, and have them ingest a small half-bowl of the ointment."

Three Jellyfish Clan women, who had been ready, immediately put on specially made gloves, scooped out the ointment, and got to work. The pale-gray ointment hissed upon contact with the skin of the three patients, as if a hot iron was branding them, causing all three to cry out in unison. This led the women to pause, but seeing Komer’s impassive face, they hurriedly continued and then fed the three patients half a bowl of the ointment each.

Once these steps were complete, under Komer’s watchful gesture, the three Jellyfish women stepped aside. Three small, silvery-white flames sprang to life in the air at the command of Komer’s mind. The flames, pale and slightly wan, floated slowly in the air, moving gradually toward the Jellyfish People’s wounds, eventually sticking to the ointment-covered sores and igniting.

Perhaps it was the intense burning sensation that made all three patients groan at the same time, but their groans carried an indescribable sense of relief, making the entire scene exceptionally bizarre. Aside from the moans and shouts of the three patients, everyone else stood still, watching the patients’ wounds intensely. The flames slowly faded, but under Komer’s magical stimulation, they flared up again, only to fade once more. This cycle continued for nearly an hour before the agonizing time finally passed.

When the last flame extinguished, the three patients no longer had the energy to moan and simply lay or collapsed on the ground, gasping for breath, clearly exhausted by the treatment.

"Remove the ointment!" As if under a hypnotic command, the three female Jellyfish People who had been standing by mechanically followed Komer’s calm order to peel off the dried ointment, and a scene unfolded that left onlookers speechless. The wounds that had been raw and bloody merely moments before were now completely healed, with new soft, pink skin, and apart from a slight color difference from the surrounding areas, the wounds were nowhere to be seen. Everyone present couldn’t help but cheer, knowing that the three patients had been tormented by this disease for as long as ten years, and were at a point where death seemed inevitable. But now, it was as if the nightmare had ended.

Only then did Komer finally feel a weight lift from his heart; he had already prepared an explanation in case the treatment failed. Fortunately, the methods and experiences taught by his master had not disappointed him, and everything was a success.

Whether it was Hotep or Stari, or any of the other Jellyfish People’s high-status individuals present, all were utterly conquered by Komer’s performance. To see tribespeople, once considered as good as dead, completely recover within an hour, although they still appeared very tired, one could see from the sparkle in their eyes that with a bit of rest, they would be completely healthy and strong again.

"It’s unbelievable, Mr. Komer, can you explain to our tribespeople how you achieved all this? What exactly caused the curse that afflicted our people?" Hotep could no longer suppress his excitement, quickly stepping forward to grab Komer’s arm and shaking it vigorously, completely forgetting his own decorum.

"Heh, of course. Uh, actually, the disease that these three patients had wasn’t a curse, but rather a result of the Jellyfish People’s unique constitution combined with the damp environment of the Swamp Area. It is a type of waterborne fungus that attaches to human skin, ultimately invading the internal organs and leading to death. Of course, it manifests differently depending on the individual’s health; some who are weak may die within a year or half, while others may drag on for eight or ten years. But the ultimate outcome is always death."

Komer smiled modestly, "This fungus isn’t particularly harmful to us mortals, but for the Jellyfish People, it can be deadly. The specific reasons are unclear to anyone right now, but it might have something to do with your tribe’s lifestyle."

"Mr. Komer, does everyone in our tribe who suffers from this disease need to be treated in this way?" Following close behind with a question was Stari, who watched Komer use Fire Magic to scorch the patients’ wounds, her eyes twinkling.

"Not necessarily. This fungus is aquatic in nature. Since these patients had been sick for such a long time, I wanted to cure them as quickly as possible, so I used both internal and external stimulation with Fire Magic to accelerate the disease’s regression," Komer explained, seemingly unaware of the other’s intentions, "In fact, as long as the patients take medication orally and apply it externally, allowing for a bit more time, they can all recover."

"Then, Mr. Komer, would it be possible for you to share the recipe for this medicine with us, so we can save the lives of our tribespeople as soon as possible? The Jellyfish Clan will forever remember the great kindness of Mr. Komer," Stari quickly pressed on.

"Of course, it’s possible. The recipe is not complicated. I can give you the formula for making this medicine now. However, I don’t know if the Jellyfish Clan has a qualified Elemental Mage to refine this medicine. At the very minimum, a qualified Magic Pharmacist is needed, one who is proficient in both Fire Magic and Wood Elemental Magic and has a fundamental understanding of potion mixing and refining techniques. This requirement isn’t too high," he answered seriously.

"Hmm, collecting the herbs also requires some attention to detail. Many of the herbs grow in the Northwest Highlands, and if you need to collect them in large quantities, it will take some time. Additionally, some herbs that are easily confused must be correctly identified; otherwise, if the wrong ones are used, it could lead to fatalities," Komer continued with earnestness.

Behind Komer’s straightforward generosity were many prerequisites. Mages were almost an impossible luxury for the Jellyfish People, as apart from their natural ability to use some simple Water Magic without learning or cultivation, the people of the Jellyfish Clan simply did not possess the innate talent for practicing magic.

For them to train their own Mages would be as difficult as expecting Beastmen to become Mages. As for Magic Pharmacists, that was even more unheard of and impossible. And they dared not entrust the fate of their entire clan to external forces.
