Chapter 459: Volume 9: Phantom of the Ancient Castle Chapter 11: Ambush_4

"No, Lord, please allow me to express my respect for you in this manner. It’s precisely because of your and your friend’s assistance that my companions and I were able to avoid being enslaved by those brutal nobles again, and there is no such thing as going too far in expressing our gratitude for that."

It was clear that this Half-Beastman had a very straightforward character, but that didn’t mean he lacked intelligence. The fact that he had come to Muscat at such a time was enough to prove to Komer that the man’s vision and breadth of mind were extraordinary.

Komer had never believed in the stereotype that saw Half-Beastmen as dull-witted, slow-thinking, and of low intelligence, who managed to survive on the Continent solely because of their robust physical qualities. Perhaps the Half-Beastmen lacked the cunning of mortals, but that was due to habits formed over a long time. As their contact with mortals grew, and they became increasingly integrated into the mortal world, even Beastmen were gradually adopting mortal ways of life, which in turn subtly influenced their thinking.

The Half-Beastman who rose to his feet immediately gave Maha Gummi an extremely warm and intimate hug, making it evident that their relationship was profound. This was also one of the main reasons why Maha Gummi had recommended him to Komer.

"Please, take a seat, Mr. Dragumo. Welcome to Muscat, and also to Caucasus. However, for various reasons that both of us are aware of, we can only meet in this environment. I hope Mr. Dragumo can understand this limitation."

In dealing with the visiting Half-Beastman Armaments leader, Komer tried to display his civil and polite side. However, the terrifying aspect of a Mage had already deeply ingrained itself in the heart of the Half-Beastman before him, and it was something that could not be easily dispelled, leaving Dragumo with a constant sense of awe in his gaze.

"Lord, please forgive my bluntness, but why are you not willing to attend our consultation meeting? And why do you not wish the outside world to know about your support for us? Perhaps you were previously worried about pressure from Homer, but now that the Bruce Floating Bridge over the Nissai River has been burned down, the Homer People simply cannot cross over. We have already dispatched a troop to guard the Nissai River Bank, and anyone wanting to construct a Floating Bridge to cross the river must first obtain our permission. Leon has already declared independence, and of course, if you, Lord, are willing to join our meeting, I believe my companions and I would all support you as the new Lord of Leon!"

Perhaps out of respect for Komer, the blunt-speaking Half-Beastman spoke without reservation.

Upon hearing the Half-Beastman’s straightforward declaration, Komer couldn’t help but let out a wry laugh.

"Mr. Dragumo, you may not fully understand our mortal world’s concepts regarding territory and lords. To be a lord, one must first be a noble. And not all nobles can become lords of a land—they need to be granted enfeoffment by the landowner and be recognized by the Kingdom’s Privy Council for it to be effective. Of course, the former is the most important condition. Simply occupying a piece of land and self-proclaiming as a lord is not recognized or accepted in our mortal world, as it goes against our secular legal concepts."

Komer began to smile.

"As for your mention that Leon has declared independence, such a notion is even less acknowledgable in our mortal minds. Independence refers to a region fully possessing the characteristics of a state or a city-state entity and, crucially, receiving acknowledgment from the surrounding countries. Leon, forgive my frankness, does not meet any of the criteria for independence. Given its current situation, it cannot even support its own survival, so how can it claim to be independent? In my view, it is a ridiculous joke."

Komer’s rather blunt words suddenly made the atmosphere a bit awkward. Even Maha Gummi felt that his master was being quite impolite in dismissing the other party so directly upon their first meeting, especially since they had just explicitly indicated their willingness to elect Komer as the new Lord of Leon if he participated in their meeting.

"Lord, are you saying that Leon cannot survive or support itself going forward?" The Half-Beastman’s face changed slightly, but after seeing the lack of scorn in Komer’s eyes, he bowed his head in thought before finally asking.

"Yes, if you are in control of Leon, it cannot sustain itself; but, if Homer takes control, then Leon can survive." Komer nodded calmly, without any change in tone.

"Oh, why is that? Is there a difference?" The Half-Beastman’s complexion shifted again, becoming somewhat unsightly.

"It’s simple. The Kingdom of Nicosia is a Mortal Country, and Leon is just a province under the kingdom, a piece of its territory. No one will tolerate such a regime’s existence. Although you have achieved temporary success, it will not last long, and it may be very short-lived. Homer, for now, may be preoccupied with other issues, but once those are resolved, they will deal with Leon. Furthermore, due to its special geographic and soil conditions, Leon has inherent fatal weaknesses. Perhaps it won’t require military action—just an economic blockade to cut Leon off from outside contact. It won’t be long before you find yourselves in a predicament with no food."
