Chapter 432: Volume Nine: The Phantom of the Ancient Castle, Chapter Two: The Secret Door Opens Part 2
The combined attack of the adventure group’s members spelled doom for a Magical Beast as formidable as the One-spiked Flying Dragon Variant," and the second skeleton flying dragon was not so lucky.
All the Magic Attacks rained down on it, especially the Mysterious Mage’s Holy Light Purification Spell which only took two bursts of light to strip the beast of a significant part of its power. The Dark Magic Power from the depths of darkness seemed so frail and powerless against the extremely pure Holy Light from the heavenly realm, which cleansed all darkness without reserve, piercing deep into the core of dark creatures.
With the support of the Dark Magic Power gone, the skeleton flying dragon even struggled to stay afloat. Moreover, the combination of Rebry’s hurricane-like Violent Lightning Combo Spell and the Dark Knight’s joint attack took only one move to send the skeleton One-spiked Flying Dragon down the path of destruction.
The dark passage finally returned to its former silence. Everyone, immersed in the frenzied confrontation just a moment ago, seemed to feel like they had survived a great calamity. Even the usually brave Rebry was considering that if they encountered such peril two more times, this so-called exploration of Damarlinsk Castle might just be this team’s last mission. And the Mysterious Magician’s nearly freakishly powerful Light Magic had already sent shivers down the spines of the already wary Rebry and Komer.
The dark passage still lay quietly ahead, but the hearts of the adventure group members no longer possessed the arrogance and confidence they had when they first entered. The appearance of the foreign magical beasts undoubtedly sounded an alarm for everyone—though it was only a mutated form, it signaled that the road ahead might hold even more difficulties. To complete this exploration, undoubtedly more courage and better mental preparation would be needed.
Upon Komer’s suggestion, the adventure group reorganized. Remaining as the vanguard was still the Dark Knight Sorrenberger, but Vladimir Koff had moved to the middle position while Newman was placed third, just behind the Mysterious Mage Lome. Lome’s formidable Light magic power gave her no reason to refuse, while Mihailovich and Komer took up positions beside Newman, with Rebry taking up the rear.
As they delved step by step deeper underground, the yin energy grew thicker, and the group could already feel the heavy yin energy affecting their bodies. They first needed to constantly cast minor spells to ease their somewhat stiffened bodies, and the Knights continuously activated their internal Fighting Qi to resist the Yin energy and prevent it from causing harm. The spiral-shaped passage twisted downward, and by Newman’s calculations, they had descended at least three floors before the slope of the passage finally leveled out again.
When a faint blue light was cast from the dark depths ahead, everyone realized that they were likely approaching another threshold.
At the end of the arc-shaped passage was a door built from unknown materials. The blue light emanated from above the door frame, and the skilled appraiser Rebry immediately recognized it as a very rare Magic Stone—Linlang, also an invaluable rarity for crafting Light Series Magic.
Linlang itself could absorb luminous flames and, once it reaches a certain threshold, release them. The quality varied based on the length of time and power of light it absorbed, but regardless of the degree, as long as it could release luminous flames, it was incredibly precious.
By Rebry’s observation, this particular piece of Linlang could be considered high-grade among such Magic Stones. Using it merely for entrance lighting was almost like casting pearls before swine.
Three meters from the entrance, the group could already feel the dense Magic Power in the surrounding area. Undoubtedly, many magical traps and arcane mechanisms had been set around here. Newman had already dropped to the ground in no time, meticulously searching for the origins of traps and mechanisms. Nobody could match his talent in this area; without him, even if the group spotted the magical traps and mechanisms, their only solution would have been to clumsily trigger and then destroy them, the consequences of which were unclear.
Only after two Magic Crossbows and three Spatial Traps, as well as two slumbering Exotic Magical Beast Variants—Earth Badger mutants, were carefully disarmed did they, including Rebry, realize they were already drenched in sweat.
Magic Crossbows and magic traps could perhaps still be dealt with, but the Earth Badger variant was a nightmare.
As the king of earth-based Magical Beasts, not only were Earth Badgers immensely strong and impervious to sword and spear, but they were also naturally immune to common magic, except for Thunder Magic, which could inflict some damage. The usual Water, Fire, Wind, and Earth spells could not harm them at all, and conventional Fighting Qi was likely as ineffective as trying to scratch an itch through a boot.
Perhaps the installer of this trap was also reluctant to awaken the creature carelessly, having to use Space Magic to place a ban and seal it at the entrance to Different Space. Once the ban was triggered and the Earth Badger woke up and stepped into this space, no one dared imagine the consequences.
When Newman and Rebry once again joined forces to use Space Magic to send the two Earth Badger variants back into Different Space, everyone including the Mysterious Mage Lome couldn’t help but let out a long sigh of relief. If they truly had to face the ferocious Earth Badgers, no one among them was confident they could escape this Passage.
It seemed that all the dangers had passed, and an open road lay before everyone. By this point, they felt like birds startled by the mere twang of a bowstring, unable to imagine how such an Ancient Castle could house so many magic traps and mechanisms. The designer’s malice and cunning was almost perverse, having summoned so many exotic magical beast variants to lie in wait along the critical path.
If this group of Adventurers hadn’t been extraordinary in strength, ordinary Adventurers would have perished countless times by now, with even a single One-spiked Flying Dragon Variant being more than enough to wipe out a group.
The Hexagonal Light pattern grew dim under Newman’s continuous spellcasting. It was a Spatial Trap, which could potentially swallow anyone who recklessly pushed or broke the Door, transporting them to Different Space.
Newman clearly had more experience in this area than anyone else in the exploration team. Even the Mysterious Magician was curiously observing how Newman was breaking the Space Magic. Powerful Magic Power kept changing forms in front of the Door, sometimes creating various illusions, sometimes turning pitch black and silent. Eventually, the hexagonal light shrank into a pinpoint and vanished from the Door. Only then did Newman wipe the sweat from his forehead and take a deep breath.
The Door slowly opened under Sorrenberger’s tentative application of force. Everyone had already silently recited their protective spells several times to guard against any dangers that might arise upon the opening of the Door. Newman even flashed to the back, tucking himself behind Rebry. Sorrenberger’s Knight Spear blade extended and retracted its dark glow, pointing straight ahead, while the Mysterious Magician lifted his right hand high, his index and middle fingers slightly twisted into a peculiar gesture, obviously ready to unleash a Magic Attack at the first sign of danger.
In front of the Puppet Mage, another Skeleton emerged, shrouded in swirling black mist, distinct from the previous two Skeleton Giant Demons. This Skeleton looked more refined, about the size of an average person, clad in a sleek suit of Magic Protective Armor, with a small Round Shield smooth as a mirror and a Short Sword exuding chilling cold. Oddly, a Red Headband was tied around its bare Skull, giving it an indescribably eerie and grim appearance.
This Skeleton Warrior stood with legs apart in a bow stance, body sideways, the Round Shield cautiously covering its upper body, and the Short Sword drawn across the chest. The black hollows of its eye sockets stared straight ahead, ready for a full-on attack, causing the Mysterious Magician beside it to subconsciously want to step away.
Rebry was equally cautious, judging by the hand gestures, the attack Magic was ready to be unleashed at any sign of a target, and it would not hesitate to strike ruthlessly.
