Chapter 425: Volume 8: Gathering of Wind and Clouds, Chapter 13: Mysterious Guest

With a casual lift of his hand, the Light Flame Technique slowly rose in the stone room. The newly joined mage hardly spoke any unnecessary words. Komer had interacted with him twice, but they hadn’t exchanged more than ten sentences in conversation. Apart from knowing each other’s names and places of origin, Komer hadn’t gleaned any information about the mage.

However, Komer didn’t care about that. As long as he could stay in the Caucasus, nothing else mattered.

Newman was now standing in the middle of the stone room’s wall, his gaunt body casting a somewhat hunched shadow on the mottled ground, adding a touch of desolation to the room.

But at this moment, Newman’s heart surged with excitement. A power imprint was overlaid on his palm, and his hand had already pressed on the precisely calculated spot. A violent trembling sensation transmitted to the feet of everyone in the stone room, as if a severe earthquake had occurred, and the room seemed to shake.

Komer’s face paled slightly. If this fellow’s calculations were off, it would be a terrible injustice if this group ended up as unintended casualties.

Fortunately, the stone room only shook violently for a while. Apart from some dust falling, there were no other abnormalities. Everyone’s gaze was fixed on the stone wall as a crack widened from thin to thick. It became increasingly apparent and finally split open slowly, revealing a huge secret path entrance. The strong magic breath came rushing at them, so powerful that even Komer, standing at the very back, could feel the devouring force of the magic power.

Almost simultaneously, three "Light Bead Flame Cannons" were conjured in the air. At the moment when the dark shadows were about to engulf everyone, they exploded suddenly. While the "Light Bead Flame Cannons" burst forth, three mages chanted spells, casting Light Series magic in rapid succession. Their displays unfolded before everyone’s eyes, and Komer, not wanting to be outdone, cast "Holy Light Illumination," brightening the entire stone room as if it were day.

The Dark Devouring Force, which had spilled out, finally recoiled under the strong retaliation of the light magic. It was like a struggle between two giants, darkness and light, and in the end, darkness became formless, and light enveloped the entire stone room, extending all the way to the opened stone wall.

Everyone adjusted their pupils slowly to adapt to the contrast between sudden darkness and light. Newman, with red eyes, rubbed his hands and stood at the forefront. He spoke in an almost sleepwalking voice, "We have arrived, great Father God!"

An open entrance lay before everyone. Clearly, space expansion magic had been used. Otherwise, no matter how large it was, the stone room would not be able to reveal such a huge secret path entrance. But the idea that the power of space expansion magic could support the castle from the time of its construction to the present was beyond belief. Everyone was a bit skeptical about what truly lay behind the wonders of this grand construction.

The mysterious fates of the past lords, the Eye of Darkness in its geographical location, the still-unfound ghost, the construction lineage of the Dwarves—the Miranda family, the enigmatic dark space Ban, and magic mechanisms. All this seemed to suggest that this castle was definitely not as simple as imagined. Unearthing the true secret behind the castle would probably not be as easy as everyone initially thought.

But having come this far, no one could turn back, whether out of fear or curiosity. Intense curiosity is both a driving force for discovering the world and a stimulant that excites one to brave dangers.

Suppressing their eagerness to explore, seven people entered in single file. No one wished to stay in the stone room, and serve as the rear guard, not even Komer, who was a bit anxious. If he, the master, was absent, should they indeed discover precious treasures, these fellows might not leave even the slightest bit for him.

The moment they stepped into the passage, almost everyone could feel an upsurge of cold, gloomy energy from beneath the ground.

This was the display of the Eye of Darkness’ magic power. When you step into the underground, where the glow of the Flame Light Stones cannot reach, you can clearly experience the innate chill of this place.

The passage began with a gentle slope extending tens of meters downwards. The road was paved with solid stone slabs, at least five meters wide on either side, and the height, which was initially less than three meters at the entrance of the passage, gradually rose to over four meters further down. The Magic Perception Technique had already been sent forward, without any response. It appeared the designer was very confident in the first barrier, believing it overly formidable, thus assuming the subsequent paths to be secure.

Komer lightly touched the stone walls and the floor of the passage. The stone material was still quite dry, not as damp as one might imagine, indicating the underground structure likely had a very good ventilation system. However, where the ventilation exhausts were located remained unknown.

The lengthy downward sloping passage eventually came to an end. A stone wall blocked the way forward, with two stone staircases on either side leading into the deep darkness. All eyes fell on Rebry and Mihailovich, who were ahead—should they go left or right, split up or go together?

"Newman, based on your judgment, what’s the deal with this fork?" Overwhelmed by the grandeur of the underground structure, Newman had surmised that they must have descended at least five meters below the surface by the end of the tens of meters long passage. Now, with two more staircases leading even further down, he too was uncertain which way was correct.
