Chapter 390: Volume 7: The Awakening Spring Thunder, Chapter 12: Fateful Gathering

Two half-beastman guards stared with suspicion at the small figure shrouded entirely in a cloak, which seemed rather secretive this season due to being tightly concealed from head to toe, and moreover, the refusal to report their own name only deepened the dedicated and responsible half-beast soldiers’ doubts.

Seeing the huge, fierce-looking half-beast soldiers glaring with their large, cow-sized eyes shifting unsettled over her body, with the massive Tower Shield in the half-beast soldier’s hand as if it were weightless, and the broad, thick Great Sword, although not unsheathed, still emanating a chilling murderous aura, made the small figure standing in the hall tremble with fear.

After traveling a thousand miles, not knowing whether she would be able to meet the other party, the environment here was indeed quite different from where she lived. From Mattdam to this place, it seemed that everywhere was populated by people of various races. Although there were not a few of her own kind, races like Barbarians, Half-Beastmen, Half-Elves, Elves, and Dwarves were actually visible everywhere in this region, and moreover, the mortals here seemed to take no notice and were not shocked, a bizarre scene that made her, who had never had such experiences, somewhat at a loss.

What horrified her even more was that upon ascending to the Lord’s Mansion, the ones to greet her were these hideous and fearsome half-beastman warriors, with half-beast soldiers nearly twice her own height standing before her, the fear and pressure they brought could well be imagined, and the sturdy armor worn upon them seemed more like decoration. With every step they took, the new armor would creak, sounding particularly grating to her ears.

"Oh?" Komer propped himself up and raised his head, his eyebrows also lifting in curiosity. An old acquaintance? Unable to see the face clearly? This was somewhat odd. A visitor refusing to introduce themselves and even having their face thoroughly covered—what was the intention? Assassins would not choose such a manner to pay a visit, would they?

Komer watched quietly the small figure before him, wrapped so tightly in a black cloak that not a breath of air could get through, always feeling a sense of familiarity, especially the aura emanating from the other party, which left an impression on Komer as if he had experienced it deeply on some occasion.

"Princess Vero?" Like a flash of lightning, the inspiration struck Komer’s mind, and an intuition made him blurt out the name.

With a whoosh, the cloak fell, revealing the girl’s smiling face, her straight nose soaring high and her bright, twinkling eyes shining dark and radiant. Her white and tender jade-like skin seemed almost breakable when blown, her brows like a work of art, and the statue of the harvest goddess was still on her body below her slender neck. Her smiling lips revealed teeth like flat shells, and such an angelic smile could drown anyone in its depths, irresistible. It was a natural cheerfulness from deep within, having nothing to do with coquetry or dazzling brilliance, yet this cheerfulness had a kind of heart-shaking charm.

Clearly satisfied with Komer’s startled and delighted expression, the girl looked around, laughing heartily, "Isn’t it Baron Your Excellency’s way of hospitality to have guests stand here?"

As if awakening from a dream, Komer gestured for the two confused half-beastman guards to leave and laughed heartily, "For Commandery Princess to grace such a remote place, Caucasus shines all the brighter. My humble abode is crude, why not invite Your Highness to rest in the green maple forest behind my house, where perhaps Your Highness could experience the unique charms of Our Caucasus."

"Oh?" The girl’s curiosity was immediately piqued. Having traveled far and wide, while part of it was to spite her father, the hope of witnessing various local customs of the Continent independently was the girl’s constant dream. Caucasus had been frequently mentioned by her father in the past months, and adventurers she had met en route had all regarded it as an Adventurers’ Holy Land, where the conquest of Damarlinsk Castle was lauded greatly, deeply stirring the girl’s thoughts.

"Well then, as the host wishes. Now that I am on Baron’s land, Vero naturally will follow your arrangements," the girl said, tidying up her hair that was tied up in a ponytail, responding with poise.

The Green Maple Forest indeed had taken a lot of effort from Komer, the vast expanse was manicured into a semi-circular shape, with trees lined up neatly along the cleared ground forming a solid screen of green. Inside the curve, a beautifully designed small marble Colonnade was perfectly situated, with columns not more than three meters high and the arched roof ingeniously employing vaulting techniques, with the corridor above transformed into a water channel. The fountain pool in the midst became Honor’s Walk, a gift from a foreign merchant to Komer. The marble sculptures, although rough in places, were just right in Komer’s eyes, hewn by a master craftsman’s touch, showing various postures of sitting, lying, contemplating, or gazing, each unique. The abundant water flow from the Colonnade clearly powered the fountain, jumping through it, complementing the stone figures, harmonizing movement and stillness.

A row of half-human height evergreen shrubs lined the Colonnade, separating the central fountain pool and the stone tables and chairs beneath from one another, with stone paths connecting through the middle, the greenery shading the Colonnade. Sitting leisurely beneath the pillars at the stone tables and chairs was a pleasurable experience.

The girl, stepping into the backyard, was immediately captivated by this complex that combined the kingdom’s mainstream architectural style and the native ambiance of Caucasus. What was rarest was that the entire complex felt so exquisite, yet the statues so rugged and untamed. The gentle breeze from the trees refreshed her instantly, and the girl fell in love with the garden at first sight.
