Chapter 374: Volume 7: The Awakening Spring Thunder, Chapter 7: Bait_2

Seeing his old friend stupefied, Tez sighed slightly with some annoyance, "Mathew, things may not be as bad as I’ve said; this is just my personal speculation, and there are many uncertainties involved. Although the Western Alliance nations have some political disagreements with us, I personally don’t think the contradictions have escalated to the point of taking such a drastic step. Moreover, the rulers of the Western countries are conservative traditionalists; it’s unimaginable for them to accept an alliance with the Beastmen. Therefore, this is merely my personal guess, without any basis, and even I don’t really believe in this possibility."

"Then how do you explain this matter?" Mathew persisted, knowing that even a one percent chance must be taken very seriously, or Myron could face the same fate of downfall at any moment. As the military commander, he needed to be extremely vigilant.

"Sorry, I can’t explain it." Tez shrugged, his hand resting on the sturdy oak desk. A trace of otherness seemed to pass through his dark eyes under his white eyebrows as he carelessly flicked the letter in his hand, "Mathew, strongholds are often breached from within. It is the internal threats that are the real danger, isn’t that right?"

The armored soldier’s eyes immediately narrowed, his chiseled face flashing an odd crimson, "Tez, what are you trying to say?"

"No, no, what I want to express is something you already understand. Why must you insist on me saying it out loud?" A sly smile appeared on the face of the Minister of Internal Affairs, fleeting as it was.

"Do you think the time is about to ripen?" Mathew countered, his palm caressing the chilly short sword at his waist, his eyes blazing with a fighting spirit, seemingly searching for a target.

"No, but the opportunities will draw increasingly near. While we await our chance, we’re also creating them, aren’t we?" Tez’s expression gradually returned to normal, his shifting gaze seemingly symbolic of the kingdom’s changing situation, "That kid from Caucasus is not ordinary at all. Even the Gray Skull joined him, and I can’t understand why that old fox Gote would take such a risk to transport grain for the kid, turning pirates into merchants, truly ironic. And the Barbarians, even they are turning a blind eye to his movements in Caucasus. There are too many secrets, but I don’t want to figure them out right now. Heh, I had planned to lend that kid a hand, but it seems I worried too much; this seed was well chosen indeed. Soon, we’ll see it grow into a troublesome man-eating flower!"

Shedding the cumbersome robe, Komer revealed a fitted body-hugging garment and extinguished the surveillance magic set up around the perimeter with a flick of his hand. Though the Half-Beastman Guards were stationed every few steps outside, these were merely for show against anyone truly determined to enter his residence. The illusions outside the room were enough to stop those restless Magicians, but Komer knew they wouldn’t deter the real experts.

Komer intentionally left openings in places most suitable for setting traps and magic, such as doors and windows. However, above the desk, he placed a mixed magic spell capable of stripping both mages and knights of their magical or physical defenses with ease—the Thundercloud Blast, a dual magic spell combining the eroding properties of Dark Class magic with Thunder Magic. The control mechanism for the trap bolts and this magic were ingeniously linked, so the moment the ban was triggered and the magic released, eight sets of launching bolts placed in the corners would fire consecutively, forming a dense web of projectiles, and Komer believed no one could escape unscathed from his complex and perfect setup.

Lifting the tablecloth in front of him, the enormous work desk displayed a hollowed-out rounded wood stem, lying quietly on an exquisite holder, its harmonious perfection enhanced by the sunlight streaming through the window. The circular stones lying in the tray had been polished down to paper-thin, nearly translucent sheets.

It all came down to this moment. Komer took a deep breath, put on his gloves, and carefully inserted a crystal stone slice into the gap at the front end of the wood stem. He then took a tube of liquid, gently sealing the gap before scrutinizing it for a while. After turning the small hole at the center, he ignited a fire with his fingers, enduring the burning pain as he inserted his fingertip into the hole. He quickly withdrew it and sealed the hole with a prepared piece of leather.

After finishing, Komer rested for a while and then repeated the process, finally fitting a crystal stone slice into the rear end of the wood stem, sealing it with adhesive liquid.

Now at the last step, the hexagonal star setup on the workbench shimmered with dazzling light, various symbols and writings flickering around it. A light mist rose from the center of the star. Komer carefully placed the wood stem in the center of the star, positioning it correctly; the mist soon enveloped both the wood stem and hexagonal star. Stepping back, his hands formed a series of gestures accompanied by a low chant. The light from the hexagonal star soon broke through the mist barrier, the room filling with the faint bluish light mist. Komer silently retreated to the door of the room, pensively observing everything before him, as if time had stood still.
