Chapter 362: Volume 7: Spring Thunder Awakens the Hibernating Creatures, Chapter 1: Dangerous Situation
Back inside the outer castle gate, a chill quietly moistened Komer’s back. Unbeknownst to them, the outer castle gate had silently closed at some point. Komer could clearly see the surprise mixed with challenge in his two companions’ eyes deep down. Clearly, this unexpected change had sparked their fighting spirit. Komer felt ashamed in his heart, it seemed he, the protagonist, had been pressured by a certain atmosphere ever since he entered the castle; he was not as carefree as the two of them. By entering this door, they had committed themselves, stepping onto this path, so there was no need to harbor many concerns anymore.
With this thought, Komer’s heart suddenly let go of many worries. He was naturally impetuous and wild, otherwise he would not have committed such an impulsive act in the first place. The wildness in his blood had not faded with age; it was just that it had been gradually overshadowed by the memories and personality of the Crystal stone’s original owner. But as the Power of the Crystal stone gradually waned and the Magic power within Komer slowly transformed into his own, Komer’s true nature began to resurface. Having absorbed some aspects of Kennifer III’s personality, he gradually broke out of his original character’s mold. Even Komer himself felt his character had some indescribable changes, as if to his impetuous and wild nature had been added a degree of prudence and calmness. Komer noticed these changes, but he was glad that Kennifer III’s obsession with emotions hadn’t affected him, otherwise, in Komer’s opinion, that almost masochistic approach to feelings was unquestionably inhumane towards oneself.
Rebry stopped in front of the suspension bridge, carefully examining its structure and potential dangers. Although his Spiritual Sense couldn’t detect the kind of cold and damp aura he had previously encountered, Rebry dared not be the slightest bit negligent. Undead creatures or those of the Undead Class were almost ubiquitous here; the Land of Underworld was not only a Holy Land for Dark Class Mages’ Cultivation, but also an excellent environment for their existence. The Nether Qi allowed them to move around in broad daylight without fear of sunlight’s harm, and these undead creatures could also enhance their Power with the Nether Qi. Some special creatures could even retain their wisdom and memory with the help of the Nether Qi before the loss of life, though this was an exception. Facing invaders into what they considered their own territory, these undead creatures would certainly not give up resistance so easily. Their apparent weakness meant they were hiding somewhere they believed they could launch an attack all at once.
The architecture of the Castle itself was also full of eerie elements. The lane was so spacious it gave the feeling of an inner and outer castle, and there was even a Moat underneath the suspension bridge. Although the moat had dried up, it was still filled with various dark, mushy substances, and the depth below was unmeasurable. Two thick wooden beams extended outward from the grooves above the door, connected to the suspension bridge by ropes of an unknown material. The surveillance holes above the door were dark, and due to their height, it was impossible to see inside.
A warning shot up from the Depths of Rebry’s Mind almost immediately, and at the same time, Komer and the Dark Knight perceived the imminent danger. A blazing Fire Shield appeared out of nowhere above Rebry’s head, shadows flitted like lightning, webs spread across, yet all landed on the seemingly suction-cupped Fire Shield, emitting a series of ’squeak squeak’ noises and the stench of burning flesh that immediately filled the surrounding space. Countless fist-sized spiders leaped out from the surveillance holes, directly targeting the Mage at the forefront. The extending Fire Shield enveloped all the attackers within. Komer and the Dark Knight didn’t join in the attack against these beautiful yet disgusting large spiders; instead, they fixed their gazes on the door ahead while fully deploying their Dark Sense to detect any other incoming dangers.
The fat-rich spiders shriveled into a dark lump in the flames in an instant, their sharp shrieks piercing the ear. Rebry frowned, waved his large sleeve, and the ashed spiders vanished with the breeze of his sleeve into the Moat beneath the suspension bridge. Human-faced Spiders?! These were a kind of abnormal creature that lived in dark and damp environments, moving swiftly as the wind, varying in size, but not belonging to the category of Magical Beasts. They were extremely venomous and aggressive beings from the Blue Continent, but inherently, such Yin-natured poisonous creatures shouldn’t actively attack Mages with dark auras like himself. However, the contrary had occurred so perversely; these inexplicable Human-faced Spiders had suddenly launched an attack on him. Clearly, someone was meddling behind the scenes. Rebry’s profound gaze turned to the unfathomable surveillance hole above, as if trying to penetrate the endless darkness.
"Mr. Rebry, is everything alright?" Komer’s Spiritual Sense had already scoured the surroundings back and forth a few times. He hadn’t detected any valuable clues, and the entire Ancient Castle seemed to have fallen back into slumber. Those Human-faced Spiders seemed as if they had emerged from the depths Underground without warning or reason, launching an Attack on his party; such a counterintuitive incident indeed happened just after entering the castle, and truly concerned him for the rest of the journey.
