Chapter 344: Volume 6: Cautious Planning Chapter 6: Darkness_3

Komer was somewhat worried about the dark magic and his identity as a necromancer, but Ilot surprisingly showed an unusual openness. He even suggested that Komer could allow the Dark Church to regain its legality within his territory. After all, on the Blue Continent, myriad organizations devoted to various doctrines were emerging one after another. Apart from the central areas of the Continent where mortals were in the majority and the Church of Light had the upper hand, but it was also impossible to suppress the faith in other gods. Many remote mountainous and rural areas still held deep-rooted beliefs in primitive deities. It’s just that the Dark Church had sunk for too long on the Blue Continent, and it seemed that there had been no mention of any races still adhering to such doctrines.

Upon hearing Ilot’s suggestion, which was almost like a fairy tale, Komer dismissed it as absurd; yet, he couldn’t help but be moved. Although the Dark Church had declined on the Continent, according to Kennifer himself, the Dark Church once flourished among other races. This meant that while it did not win recognition among mortals, the Dark Church might have a foundation or even an origin among other races. And this land of his was already filled with many races besides mortals.

As Ilot casually remarked, if the Church of Light could develop into such a massive force that it even transcended nations, then seeking a sect that suited him and could support his rule as a proxy for religious faith seemed acceptable. At least having another sect competing with the Church of Light was beneficial and harmless to Komer. He was more than happy to see the Church’s authority and influence weaken to the greatest extent within his own territory.

Wave after wave of deep, angry roars came again, disrupting the debate between Komer and Ilot about the Dark Church and bringing them back to the perilous reality. Through the Spirit Perception Technique, Komer sensed that intermixed within the ogre’s roars were sounds that seemed similar to human cries, which greatly puzzled him.

"Ilot, what lies further south from here?" Komer’s gaze was fixated on the distant hill as his eyesight soared beyond it toward the origin of the sounds.

"Boss, we are actually standing at the boundary of the Barbarian Territory. According to the map, once we descend from this ridge, it should be considered Barbarian land. However, this is just our unilateral map and moreover just sketched casually by adventurers. Whether it has legal force or not, nobody can be certain. We have never had a formal discussion with the barbarians regarding the delineation of the territory. It has always been a desolate wilderness no one cared about, even barbarians rarely travel to this area, not to mention people from our side. If it weren’t for Puber dragging that Drunken Dwarf around, no one would believe that there is a fine iron mine hidden here, nor would anyone come to admire the wilderness sceneries without a reason. But last time, as you instructed, I quietly laid many markers and boundary stakes. While surveying around with that drunkard, I’ve already planted these markers and stakes on that side. I don’t think the barbarians would take an interest in this land. Thousands of miles to the south is their active area; why would they care about this tiny patch of ground?" Ilot spoke nonchalantly, as if Komer’s concerns were utterly redundant. He believed that it was an anomaly for anyone to set foot on this land; no one would even notice its existence. Moreover, if the barbarians really insisted that this land belonged to them, even if someone relocated their home here, they still wouldn’t acknowledge it.

Komer did not agree with Ilot’s view. Perhaps, before the iron ores were discovered, this area might have been vast wilderness, but once iron ore mining commenced on a large scale, the prospects for Bahomon would be limitless. The aggregation of so many mortals on a large-scale development could not possibly escape the barbarians’ notice. Komer wasn’t worried about attracting the attention of the barbarians. On the contrary, the mystique of Barbarian Territory had always been a target for Komer’s adventures. Being able to venture into the barbarians’ lands where no mortals had set foot was precisely what Komer longed for.

Another howling came from afar, different from the previous ones. Komer and Ilot clearly heard the sound of battle drums being struck with regular and rhythmic patterns amidst the howling, which made them look at each other in disbelief.

When Komer and Ilot finally plucked up the courage to climb to the top of a distant hill and looked out, an immense battlefield unfolded before them.

Hundreds of Barbarian Warriors formed several attacking circles, while seven or eight ogres were encircled within. Shouts, roars, and howls rose and fell in succession; an extensive encirclement combat was in full swing. Komer and Ilot even witnessed the most thrilling scene they had ever seen—three massive Earth Dragon Warriors were holding sharp Dragon Spears, constantly looking for opportunities to deal a fatal blow to the surrounded ogres.

The arrival of Komer and Ilot did not escape the keen eyes of the Barbarian Sentries. As soon as the two appeared at the top of the hill, several Barbarian Soldiers had already rushed over, surrounding them with quick strides.

When Komer explained their intentions in fluent Mountain Language to the blatantly hostile Barbarian Soldiers, he realized he had overestimated the barbarians’ goodwill towards them. The sharp tips of spears and javelins locked firmly on the two of them. Komer guessed that any movement from them would likely result in javelins launching forth to pin them to the ground. Other than repeatedly explaining their intentions to the Barbarian Soldiers, Komer had no other choice. According to the soldiers, the sin of mortals breaking the prohibition and intruding into the Barbarian Territory was unforgivable, and they must surrender immediately to accept punishment; otherwise, they would not hesitate to attack.
