Chapter 342: Volume 6: Cautious Planning Chapter 6: Darkness
Ilot stood triumphantly in front of the ogres, unaware of what magic Komer had cast that made the rampaging ogres finally collapse after venting their endless strength. Piercing the vital point under the arm of the ogres with ease, the magical beast that caused turmoil for nearly an hour finally fell heavily in front of him. Ilot, who had escaped death, fell into ecstasy, not even realizing when the silent assassin who had been there from the beginning disappeared.
After striking a pose he believed to be heroic and dashing on the enormous body of the ogre for a while, he remembered that his boss was still weakly lying on the side, and the assassin was long gone without a trace.
"Ilot, quickly open the heads of these ogres. There is a core crystal deep within their brows. Search carefully; it might not be big, but it’s very useful," Komer said, unable to move even a finger, fighting against his eyelids that felt heavier than a thousand pounds with all the will he could muster. All he could do was issue a faint voice to arrange tasks for his companion, who was still immersed in the joy of a narrow escape from death.
"Heh, got it, I’ll do it right away." Snapping out of his excitement, Ilot immediately fell back into elation. Regarding the goods from the bodies of magical beasts, Ilot’s greed was no less than that of Puber. The use of the core crystal needed no explanation; it was definitely an important material for mages to create props. Even before arriving here, Ilot had heard that the ogre’s skin-stretched war drum seemed to have an enchanting effect on people; it was uncertain whether this was true, but at least one thing was certain: such a drum was definitely much more valuable than ordinary drums.
"Right, Ilot, carefully cut out the poison glands under the ogres’ armpits. I have a dagger here that can be used for the task. Also, when cutting the skin and poison glands, make sure to wear anti-poison gloves. There’s a pair in the pouch on my waist. Ilot, come over and help me up so I can lean against that slope over there." After saying this, Komer truly didn’t have the strength to continue and could only lie on his back to wait. His companion Ilot had not even noticed how uncomfortable it was for him to be lying on the ground, but expecting him to consider such details was less efficient than simply ordering him directly.
After helping Komer to the slope and laying him down on a flat spot, Ilot remembered that they had an assistant whose presence seemed to have vanished. He quickly lifted his head to look around but found no trace; it was as if they had vanished into thin air.
Seeing the confused look on his companion’s face, Komer didn’t wish to hide the truth, but he truly lacked the energy to explain, so he simply closed his eyes, sat up straight, and immediately entered a meditative state.
However, the meditation Komer longed for didn’t last long. Even before Ilot had finished skinning, Komer was awakened from his meditation by wave after wave of howling. Although it only lasted a short half hour, Komer felt as if a day had passed. The surging magic power inside his body was as volatile as the tidal waves, and with that half-hour rest, Ilot had also regained most of his strength – enough to calmly deal with any unexpected events that might occur.
The howls coming from afar were undoubtedly from the same species as the ogres that had become their prey. The dying howls of the four ogres had summoned a response from their kin. What gave Komer some comfort was that it seemed that even after so long since the four ogres had died, their kin had not managed to arrive in time to attend their funeral.
Even while entering a meditative state, Komer never dared to relax his Spiritual Sense. After regaining a bit of magic power, he released a low-cost Air magic spell – the Level 3 Sky Absorption Wave Technique. This minor magic could monitor magic power changes within a mile radius effectively by using the air as a medium. If any demon incapable of concealing its magic aura entered this area, the magic would notify the caster through the transmission of air waves, allowing for early warning and preparation. However, this minor magic spell was not valuable to mages who could hide their magic aura, nor was it suitable for use in areas with complex geographical environments. Hence, its application was very limited; it could only be effective in areas that were relatively flat and free of special geological influences.
