The Vastness of Magical Destiny
Chapter 263 - 5: Temptation

Chapter 263: Chapter 5: Temptation

Komer was equally aware that the other party seemed to see through his intentions, but he didn’t care. The Church of Light’s establishment in the Caucasus would naturally raise suspicions from the Great Mysterium Sect. Perhaps the confrontation between the two was exactly what Komer wished to see. "Xerob, the Great Dark Envoy, the citizens on the eastern foothills of the Baden Gold Mountain Range have discovered two Wicked Dragons lurking near a mine, severely disrupting the normal lives of the people. I think if you could find a way to drive these Wicked Dragons away from this area, it would surely leave a good impression on the Great Mysterium Sect, and maybe it could be helpful for the Sect’s expansion in this region."

"Wicked Dragons? The Baden Gold Mountain Range? As far as Xerob knows, that doesn’t seem to be the Dark Lord’s territory, should it not belong to the range of Barbarian activities? Could it be that the Barbarians have already submitted to the Caucasus?" Frowning slightly, the pale countenance now appeared even more unhealthy.

"No, Mr. Xerob, doing good deeds knows no boundaries. Are you suggesting that the Great Mysterium Sect should discriminate by race and region in their acts of kindness?" Komer retorted.

"Oh, Xerob meant no such thing. The God of the Underworld takes care of the citizens of any race on the Continent, just as the light can shine everywhere, so too does darkness not spare any corner. Everyone has the right to enjoy the blessings of the God of the Underworld." The man in black’s pale face broke into a faint smile, "However, God’s Abandoned People are not included."

"God’s Abandoned People?" Startled, Komer hadn’t quite understood yet.

"How can one receive the favor and care of a god if they lack a deity to believe in? These Barbarians are devoid of the basic foundation of civilization and the bare minimum of faith. The appearance of the Wicked Dragons is merely a small punishment for their disbelief in gods. Over the years, they have been confined to the Cordillera Wilderness, unable to step out, and yet they refuse to repent, ultimately leading to their current state of decline. Is that not the punishment of the god?" the man with dark eyes spoke coldly, lifting his gaze, his face expressing a stern countenance.

It was then that Komer reflected on the fact that the Barbarians did not worship the traditional deities of the Continent. They believed in the world and all its elements, opposed idol worship, and their priests, who were said to possess the power to communicate with the heavens and the earth, presided over the faith and rituals. While they could heal illnesses and predict the future through special methods, they never interfered in the administrative affairs of the Tribe. Because of this, the Barbarian race had difficulty living in harmony with other races on the Continent, which traditionally followed a deity, and Xerob was precisely pointing this out.

"Haha, Mr. Xerob, your viewpoint may have some merit. However, if the Great Mysterium Sect could overturn the tradition of the Barbarians not believing in deities through their own actions, wouldn’t that be an earth-shattering event? Have you considered the impact it would have on the Continent’s populace that believes in gods?" Komer did not give up, vigorously disputing the argument.

Seemingly persuaded by the other’s words, the man in black fell silent for a good while. In fact, Xerob was considering what ulterior motives the other party had for so eagerly facilitating this event. Xerob was aware of the Barbarians’ temperament—that mere superficial acts would hardly make them submit—and he had no intention of involving the Great Mysterium Sect in such a baseless and grandiose act of "heroism" to slay demons. However, this designated Dark Lord from the Great Mysterium Sect was so persistent that Xerob had to carefully ponder his response.

"Dark Lord, since you hold our Great Mysterium Sect in such high regard, Xerob has nothing more to say. I will convey your suggestion back to the Temple of the Great Mysterium Sect and discuss the matter with the Sanctum Pope and other Nether Envoys. After all, the Wicked Dragons are not weaklings, and eliminating them will require thorough preparation. However, Xerob would like you to seriously consider my suggestion. If this is merely a pretense or if you intend to use us, that would likely contradict our initial purpose." The man in black’s expression had become exceptionally grave.

"Please rest assured, Mr. Xerob, I will consider it. If the Great Mysterium Sect is as splendid as you describe, even if I am not the so-called Dark Lord, I might still deeply believe in it. I truly hope that day comes." Komer felt a surge of pleasure, having successfully persuaded the man, also seizing the opportunity to see the true power of the Great Mysterium Sect, daring to contend with the Church of Light.

As the bell tower on the side of St. Mark’s Church thunderously rang out, waves of melodious bell tones spread across Virgin Square, the sky clear and bright, with radiant sunshine casting golden hues in front of the Square. Pigeons around the fountain took flight, soaring high, passing over the expanse of the Square, casting down specks of shadow. Almost all the believers in the Square involuntarily looked up to the domes of the Church ahead, muttering their prayers for redemption, praying for the Sun God to forgive all original sins and bless the world.

The grand and exquisite St. Mark’s Church, undoubtedly one of the most important religious sites on the Continent, is the Church of Light’s foremost building. The three-aisled basilica in front of the main building extends it forward by several tens of meters, significantly reducing the imposing nature of the Church and making it appear more approachable. However, to fully take in the grandeur of the church, especially its magnificent domes, one must come to the center of Angel Square in front of the Church.
