Chapter 256 - 1: Unexpected Joy

Chapter 256: Chapter 1: Unexpected Joy

Just as Komer racked his brains on how to deal with the kingdom’s visit, the arrival of the southern barbarian emissary’s delegation once again filled him with unexpected joy.

Gazing at the pair of young dragons that stood just over a meter tall, Komer struggled to conceal his inner jubilation, maintaining an appearance of indifference. To be honest, Komer had never dared to hope that the barbarians would gift him with these special animals from the Cordillera Wilderness. In the eyes of the barbarians, Earthwalking Dragons were precious to their tribes. He had originally made a sky-high demand, never expecting the other side to actually bring him two young dragons. Although they were fewer than he asked for, this gesture was enough to make Komer feel sincerely grateful to this group of barbarians.

Though these Earthwalking Dragons were not as powerful as those among the Magical Beasts when compared to dragon-kind, they still bore the name of dragons—true dragons, unmatched sovereigns among animals. Though the two little ones were relatively well-behaved under the strenuous control of a few Barbarian Warriors, the novelty and caution of their new environment still had them looking around with their fist-sized red eyes. Their brownish skin made them look quite robust and healthy, while their heads were not yet fully formed to be as ferocious as those of adult dragons. But the initial hint of horns and whiskers was visible, akin to the sparse facial hair of a human young man, giving them a somewhat tender appearance. The occasional snarl revealed their not fully developed yet exceptionally sharp teeth, and their crimson tongues kept licking outside their lips as if they were always in a state of hunger. The dragon scales from their neck to their underbelly looked like natural armor, with palm-sized, swirling pieces spreading out in a vortex formation, covering the entire neck, chest, and abdomen tightly. Their thick backbones rose high then indented cleverly in the middle, perfectly accommodating one or two people as a natural seat. Their strong hind legs, bursting with muscles, conveyed their strength, while their front paws weren’t as sturdy as their hinds yet had claws that were another set of potent weapons.

Suppressing the joy in his heart, Komer strolled over to the two young dragons and carefully sized them up before he couldn’t resist the urge to stroke their smooth skin. However, their wary gaze and threatening posture made Komer chuckle in resignation.

"Sir, please do not approach them carelessly. It’s quite dangerous. These two young dragons have hatched less than two months ago and have very strong instincts for vigilance and retaliation. Be careful not to get hurt," said Volen, Komer’s old friend who had brought the dragons. He had gone to great lengths to offer two young dragons as a gesture of goodwill from his tribe. If these untamed young creatures were to harm Komer, it would defeat the purpose.

"Really? I find these two little guys quite adorable and not as dangerous as you say," Komer said with a light smile, his eyes fixed on the two young dragons that were glaring at him warily and ferociously. He quietly circulated his magic power, a sharp glint appearing in his eyes and his aura abruptly shifting. Even the Half-Beastman Guards and the barbarian emissaries beside him felt the Lord suddenly seeming like a different person; he appeared unapproachable and even exuded an immense aura that seemed to set him apart from those around him. The closest to Komer, Volen felt this immense pressure instinctively making him step back, even feeling an urge to worship; it was inconceivable why such a strange thought would suddenly arise in him. It wasn’t until he saw how the two young dragons acted that he understood.

The two young dragons became agitated under Komer’s gaze, as if they had seen something terribly frightening. With the shifting aura around Komer, their demeanor gradually transformed. The young dragons looked more like lambs awaiting slaughter until Komer’s aura changed once more, and they then held their heads up again staring at Komer with a look of reverence. At that moment, Komer didn’t hesitate to stroke the heads of the two young dragons and even gently pinched the horns on one of the young dragon’s developing head.

The group of Barbarian Soldiers watched the scene unfold before them in disbelief. How could this be possible?! They couldn’t comprehend how Komer could stroke these young dragons as if he were their breeder or tamer, especially since even the most familiar keepers and tamers wouldn’t dare to casually touch their horns. Consider these were young dragons, not fully adapted to the outside society; any act of provocation could trigger their aggression. The horns were their softest and most precious part, slight contact could result in a violent response, but now these two were practically bowing before this mortal they just met, even extending their tongues to lick his hands in an almost submissive manner. This was nothing short of a miracle! A couple of Barbarian Soldiers were so bewildered that they vigorously rubbed their eyes to make sure they weren’t seeing things. The whole scene seemed like a silent performance set to highlight Komer.
