Chapter 1022: Volume 33 Where to Go Chapter 10 Killing Move

"They are falling into corruption! If we don’t stop them, the Church of Light will surely sink, becoming slaves to darkness," Noyola paced restlessly back and forth, gesticulating wildly with his hands, his elaborate robe rippling with the intensity of his emotions. "We must stop them."

"But how can we stop them? His Holiness the Pope has not yet ended his seclusion, and our request for an audience has gone unanswered. I suspect His Holiness is deliberately avoiding us, or rather, he simply does not wish to see us," Lorenzo said faintly.

"What are you saying? Impossible! Are you suggesting that His Holiness would support those scoundrels, that he would condone them leading the Church of Light into the Dark Abyss? That’s utterly inconceivable!" Noyola cried out somewhat hysterically, suddenly halting his steps and glaring at his companion. "You’re spreading alarmist talk!"

"Is that so?" Lorenzo let out a bitter laugh. "We’ve known this for a long time. The Church of Light is dwindling, and we can’t find a correct path to change ourselves. Whether it’s the Salvation Society, Frenster, or Vazinsky, they are all exploring, and His Holiness is fully aware of this. Do you think Welch and the others could hide their explorations from His Holiness’s prophetic powers? His Holiness is merely using them, hoping their explorations might bring some change to the Church of Light. But so far, he probably hasn’t seen what he wants, which is why he has chosen to continue his seclusion."

"Hmph, you’re saying he’s choosing to evade?"

"That’s what I believe," Lorenzo answered coldly. "Apart from that reason, I can’t find any other explanation for His Holiness choosing such a time for seclusion and also refusing summons from the outside world."

Noyola fell silent, Lorenzo had articulated the unease in his heart. The Pope’s ill-timed seclusion had already aroused his worries and doubts, and his refusal to respond to summons was even more peculiar.

But as the leader of the Court, regardless of any difficulties or dangers, he would not retreat. Welch had completely fallen. He thought that his so-called reformed doctrines could garner more agreement, but in reality, it was a trend towards vulgarity. Even if it could attract more followers, what was the point if it involved betrayal and transformation?

Frenster and Vazinsky were following in Welch’s footsteps; they might go even further. A bad beginning often leads to more emulation, but the real problem was the Pope’s perspective, as his attitude determined everything.

Taking a deep breath, Noyola raised his fervent eyes, looking towards his companion, "Lorenzo, what should we do now? Sit and wait for death, feign ignorance, or cower and hide?"

Lorenzo knew that his companion had actually made a decision deep down. He understood his character better than anyone; even His Holiness the Pope could not sway him from his inner convictions.

"Noyola, do you think we can succeed?"

"Does it matter if we succeed or not? As long as we try our hardest, that’s enough," the light in Noyola’s eyes blazed even brighter.

"But why aren’t we willing to seek a satisfying success with an equally satisfying result?" Lorenzo asked.

"Is that possible?" Noyola shook his head. "Lorenzo, I never dream unrealistic dreams. With the support we have now, it’s difficult for us to achieve a substantial victory."

Lorenzo sighed; he knew he couldn’t stop the other. "How do you plan to begin?"

"Frenster and Vazinsky are collaborating with that dark remnant in Nicosia, seeking to start anew there. And the Salvation Society thrives in Nicosia, all thanks to that dark remnant. I hate that I let that scoundrel escape last time. Even the Spatial Rift didn’t swallow him. This time, I don’t want to have any regrets."

"Have you decided? That fellow isn’t what he used to be; he’s now surrounded by so many powerful warriors. Even if the two of us join forces, we might not..."

"It’s not might not, it’s simply that just the two of us have no chance," Noyola’s eyes still burned with fervor, but his expression was utterly calm, unaffected by emotion.

Lorenzo’s eyes brightened, it seemed that Noyola’s judgment hadn’t been clouded by his emotional state.

"So what do you mean...?"

"We need external assistance. That guy has quite a few powerful warriors by his side. Last time at the Tower of Confinement, even Trajan suffered a great loss, and this time if we venture out, it would be even more difficult. Hence, we must seek help from beyond our own power; only by ourselves is to invite humiliation," Noyola said indifferently.

Lorenzo’s brain raced. Who could they enlist for help? Trajan, Michelangelo? Both seemed impossible. Vazinsky and Frenster were drifting away from them, and it was unlikely they would join.

"Who? Who could shoulder this responsibility?"

"Caesar, and his Wind Riders," Noyola replied.

"Ah? Caesar? Him?" Lorenzo was astonished, for a moment thinking Noyola had lost his mind. Caesar only followed the commands of His Holiness the Pope and accepted no one else’s orders.

"You don’t believe it?" Noyola gave a slight smile.

"Caesar will join hands with us?"

"Don’t think of Caesar and his as being so mysterious. They have their own opinions, and His Holiness the Pope has never interfered with their views nor deliberately influenced their inclinations. That is exactly our opportunity. I have already officially invited Caesar and his Windriding Knights to help us eradicate the dark remnants."

"Their answer?"

"No definite response yet, but they haven’t rejected it, which is already hinting at something. I believe they will make a wise choice." Noyola was confident that with Caesar’s inclusion, the chance of success could reach over ninety percent.

"Caesar alone may not be enough. The Homer Knights and Wave Knight Corps are also home to exceptional warriors like Lecler, unless the Wind Riders’ Paladins..." Lorenzo hesitated before speaking.

"I understand; we must leave no room for error this time," Noyola’s expression darkened, "For the sake of faith, I am prepared to sacrifice everything, including my own life." (To be continued.
