The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 89. Blood As Ink
Chapter 89: 89. Blood As Ink
Mauve reddened as Jael’s hand moved over her body. She tried to sit still, it didn’t help that they had an audience. Mauve could not meet Lady Jevera’s eyes, she was too embarrassed. She could feel Lady Jevera’s glare on the top of her head and she wished she could disappear.
It was hard to listen to the conversation. Jael sounded cold, too cold but she understood that he was stressed out. Under the light, he looked paler than usual. It was a bit worrisome as he had drunk from her a few hours ago.
"Is there anything else?" He asked her, he sounded impatient.
"No," Lady Jevera replied.
Mauve could vaguely see her turn around and leave. The door closed with a loud thud, the sound echoed in the small confinement. She lifted her eyes to look at Jael and he already had his attention back on his desk scribbling away.
"What is that?" She asked.
Jael paused and slowly turned to look at her, he did not look like he appreciated the interruption. "What?"
She frowned, he knew what she was asking about. "The wooden stick you are writing with. I have never seen anything like it before."
"Is that so?" He said and returned to writing.
"So, what is it?" She asked again. She had no intention of letting it go unless he answered her.
Jael sighed and dropped it. "It is a pen okay."
"But where is your ink?" She asked, looking around his desk.
"Don’t worry about it," he said.
The words were barely out of his mouth when she grabbed the pen to study it. As soon as Mauve picked it up, she let out a scream and dropped it. It fell onto the desk and rolled off the table. She looked at her finger and blood was seeping out of her finger.
Jael caught her bleeding finger with his writing hand and popped it into his mouth. She immediately noticed his finger was also stained with blood.
"What was that?" Mauve cried, whatever had pierced her had been very painful.
He removed her finger from his mouth and studied it. Satisfied that it wasn’t bleeding anymore, he let go of her hand. He then lifted her off his legs so he could find the fallen pen. He did and he picked it up. He then turned to look at her with a look of disapproval.
"I guess you have your answer. The ink is my blood. You should leave."
"I am sorry," she blurted out. "I did not mean to."
"Apology accepted, now leave."
"Why do I still have to leave?" Mauve asked.
She stood beside him with her head down as she wrapped her hands around herself. She could tell he was angry but it was a slight mistake, he did not have to chase her away for it. It wasn’t as if she ruined the creepy pen that used blood as ink.
"Would you prefer I chased you off?"
"But I have nothing to do," she exclaimed.
"I am sure you will find something, read a book for all I care. Now leave."
His eyes glowed and his voice made her shiver. She knew disobeying his order was going to be to her detriment.
"I see," she said, nodding quickly as she picked up her dress and fled the room.
Jael watched Mauve flee from him and he winced. He did not have to treat her like that but if he had not he was certain he would have pounced on her. All this work was making him hungry and what does she do? Bleed in front of him. It had taken him everything to not make a bigger puncture while he had her finger in his mouth.
He was stressed, the preparations for the party were more hectic than he had assumed considering this was the first party ever he was organizing. Jevera was giving him a hand but even that did not reduce his workload. The fact that nobody else could do this but him was slightly pissing.
He not only had to reply to letters, but he also had to send out more for the items needed for the party. He had to write different letters with specific instructions. It wasn’t just tiring, it was annoying.
He did not know this was what was in store for him, he would have increased his absence to another decade just to avoid this crap. He preferred to be outside hunting Palers, office work didn’t suit him. However, this was something he had to do, he could not stall any longer. If he did, the consequences would be grave.
Jael pulled on the string and a knock could be heard on the door barely a minute later. "Come in."
"Your grace," a servant bowed as he walked into the room. "What are your orders?"
"Two bags, now."
The servant’s eyes widened but he did not say a word, just bowed and left the study. The servant returned minutes later with the two bags which he placed on the table. Jael waved his hand at the servant and he immediately left the study.
Jael picked up the bag and winced, since he started to feed on Mauve’s blood, he had not tried anything else and even as he stared at the bag of blood, he knew he did not want to drink it.
The airtight bag was something he was forever grateful to Kieran for making. It had made his plan much easier to come to fruition. Being able to store the human blood and carry it around without fear of congealing was a step further in their fight against Palers.
There was also the fact that even if it did congeal, a few drops of vampire blood was enough to undo this process. However, this was a point he couldn’t make to the Vampire Lords. They would fight for the need to bring back blood slaves.
They already had issues with the fact that the blood wasn’t directly from a human body but from a bag. To tell them to use their blood would be insulting. He could only hope that a better solution arises sooner than later but he did not have to worry about that for now.
Jael opened the side of the bag and poured the contents all at once into the back of his throat. He did not want to taste it. He still did. It wasn’t bad blood, it just wasn’t Mauve. Unfortunately, he couldn’t rely on her as she had been exceedingly pale after he was done. He was surprised she had recovered quickly.
He tossed the bag aside and got back to work, he intended to be done with the letters by sunrise. He was getting sick of being confined to this tiny study.
