Chapter 736. Perfect State
Chapter 736: 736. Perfect State
Jael adjusted in his seat. Why was the fact that Mauve had thought of using his mother’s name such a turn-on? He clenched his fist as he tried to calm down in hopes that the blood would flow somewhere else. He wanted nothing more than to indulge, but he knew he had to keep himself in check; he didn’t want to take any chances.
"I am glad you like it," Mauve said, pulling him out of his lustful thoughts.
"Yes, I do. Very much so."
Mauve was worried Jael might find it disrespectful, so it was quite relieving to discover that he didn’t and that he truly seemed happy about the idea. She grinned at him. "It’s a great name, isn’t it?"
"It is. Wonderful choice. I knew you’d pick a good name."
"Thank you," she grinned and kissed his cheek.
"What if the child is a boy? What names have you thought of?" Jael asked. Mauve’s eyes widened, and she turned away from him. "What?" Jael frowned.
"I haven’t concluded yet," she mumbled. "I will tell you when I have something."
Jael narrowed his eyes. "You’re lying, aren’t you?"
"No, I am not," Mauve insisted.
"Then look at me when you say it," he whispered, leaning closer so his lips grazed her ear.
"Don’t do that," Mauve said and grabbed her ear. Her face was flushed.
Jael chuckled, "I am listening."
Mauve covered her face with her palms. Why did this feel more embarrassing? It was just a name.
"I told you," Jael added, "I am fine with whatever you’ll choose."
Mauve stuck out her lower lip as she slightly opened her palm to look at Jael. "I wanted to name him after..."
"What was that? I didn’t hear you."
"I was going to name him after his father." She blurted, her voice a bit higher than necessary.
Jael moved his head back and blinked. "Jael?" he asked. "It does have a nice ring to it."
"No," Mauve shook her head. "Darcy."
Jael raised a brow. "I didn’t know you knew my middle name." He chuckled.
"I’ve heard it," she whispered.
"Mm."
"What do you think?" Mauve asked when Jael didn’t reply.
"I love it," he said and hugged her.
"Are you sure you’re not just saying that?" Mauve asked with a stern look on her face.
"I promise I am not," he smiled.
Mauve looked unconvinced, but she didn’t fight the hug and just leaned into Jael. "I can’t wait for the baby to get here," Mauve said with a sigh. She still had a lot of months to wait for that to happen. She wasn’t complaining, but at the same time, she was also impatient.
"Patience, my dear," Jael replied as he rubbed her stomach.
Mauve sighed, her back was on him, and he just held her in this position. Mauve couldn’t help but think about how surreal the whole situation was. She was really sitting here with Jael, thinking about baby names. She placed her hands over his, and Jael just held her in that position.
Mauve couldn’t help the contentment on her face, especially when Jael felt this nice against her body. With how hot her temperature was getting, his against hers was just the perfect state.
Mauve was still in a good mood when they left the room for the dining hall. It was already filled, and Mauve was quick to take her seat. "Looking good, Mauve," Lady Marceline said as she sat down.
"Thank you," Mauve replied. She turned to Alaric and offered him a warm smile, which he returned but quickly turned away. Mauve couldn’t help the disappointment that passed across her face.
"I was worried when you didn’t make it for the first meal, but I see you’re in great health."
"I just overslept," Mauve said with a shrug. "And someone decided not to wake me." She shot Jael a look, and he smirked. It was unclear if Jael was more approving of Lady Marceline’s presence, but at least he no longer glared at her. That was a good sign.
"Sleep is good," Lady Marceline replied. "With a baby growing in you, you should get all the sleep you need."
Mauve nodded and smiled at her before digging into her meal. She had not run into any issues since she got pregnant, and some days she found herself wondering if there was no reason why Lady Marceline should have stayed behind. However, she knew the lady was happy to be here. All she spoke about was the baby and Jael.
As soon as the second meal was over, Jael was quick to stretch out his hand towards her as he helped her to her feet and out the door. He walked slowly as she leaned against him. Mauve looked down and was met with her growing stomach; it really was bigger now.
Jael dropped her in front of the door to her room. "I will be back," he said as he held the door open.
"I thought you said you were free today," she whispered. She was a little sad to see him go.
"I am, but I need to check on something with Erick. It shouldn’t take too long."
"Oh, okay," Mauve said. "I think I’d go to the garden then." She thought it would be stuffy in her room, and since there was still some time before she could go on a walk with Jael, she might as well get some air from the rooftop.
Jael gave her a suspicious look and then reluctantly said, "I will take you there."
"I thought you had somewhere else to be?" She looked at him with a question in her eyes.
"Erick can wait for a few more minutes. Why are you going to the rooftop all of a sudden?"
"I want to look at the night sky," she smiled.
"Shall we then?" Jael asked, and Mauve nodded, linking arms with Jael as he led the way.
"Just stand here," Jael said as they got to the last stairway, the one leading to the rooftop.
Mauve nodded. She frowned a little, wondering if the moon was seeping in, but there were no candle lights or torches in the hallway, yet she could see enough to not bump into anything. However, she didn’t dwell on this as the sound of Jael opening the door drew her attention.
