Chapter 733. Hard Bargain

Chapter 733: 733. Hard Bargain

"I appreciate the worry," Mauve cut in, "but I assure you, I am fine. There is no need to cancel. I am fine with a few days off, but to completely cancel the lessons? I think you might be overreacting a little, Louis. And it was just one day. Jael will have gotten over this by tomorrow night."

"Are we speaking about the same person?" Louis asked sarcastically. "We both know Jael doesn’t give up easily, and as I said, this does not concern him. I am just worried about everything that’s going on."

"And I just said there is no need to worry," Mauve said, getting annoyed. She could also notice that her pitch had increased.

"You’re not even going to listen to me, are you?"

"Because you don’t want to listen to me either; you’re just telling me what you’ve decided."

"Yes," Louis nodded.

Mauve glared at him. "Are you not going to deny it?" she asked.

"Why would I do that? Besides, I am the teacher here, and I have decided."

"No," Mauve said stubbornly.

Louis narrowed his eyes. "Well then, prepare to be alone at the library tomorrow night," he stated.

"You wouldn’t," Mauve said, and Louis smiled. She knew without a doubt that he would, and she wouldn’t be able to stop him.

"We can both put that to the test," he replied with glee.

"Louis," Mauve called, changing her tone. She had to convince him not to cancel. If she gave in now, she wouldn’t be able to get any more lessons until after the birth of the child or worse even king after that. She was at least hoping she could drag this out until the latter part of her pregnancy, but Louis was clearly not having it.

"Not going to work," he said and started for the door. "Just so you don’t think I am avoiding things with Jael, I will also be joining the Palers team."

"What?" Mauve asked, rushing after him. "You’re serious."

He paused and turned to look at her. "Of course, I am. Did you think I was going to keep on hiding out in the library with you?"

"Wait, is that what you were doing?" When Louis didn’t respond, Mauve sighed. "I am sure we can come to an understanding. How about once a week?"

"What are you doing?" he asked in displeasure.

"Bargaining?" Mauve replied.

"There isn’t anything to bargain for."

"Fine, once in two weeks?"

Louis narrowed his eyes. "I am leaving."

"Fine, fine, you drive a very hard bargain, and this is my last offer, just so you know. Once a month—final offer."

"Enjoy the rest of your night, my lady. I’ll see you during the last meal." He briskly walked to the exit.

"Louis, don’t go," Mauve cried as she tried to chase after him, but of course, she didn’t catch him. All she got was the door almost slamming in her face.

"Arghh!!" Mauve screamed as she rested her back against the closed door. "What am I going to do with myself? I could take private lessons all by myself." But as soon as she said it, Mauve immediately knew it was a bad idea and pushed the thought aside.

She pushed herself off the door as she made her way back to bed, deciding that she would spend the next couple of days following Louis around to convince him that this was a drastic measure.

Mauve slowly made her way to bed, but almost halfway there, she was struck by the worst wave of nausea ever. Her knees buckled, and she dropped to the floor. She held this position for a while before the wave subsided a bit, and she was able to stand up.

Mauve panted as her mouth hung open, grateful that she didn’t throw up. She lay back and got comfortable in bed with the hope that she would start to feel better. The nausea had worsened recently, but it didn’t last as long as it usually would.

She sighed and rolled to her side, wondering if Louis was right and if she should take it slow. She was still thinking about this when she drifted into a deep sleep and didn’t wake up until Jael came to pick her up for her usual walk.

She felt a hand on her shoulder and tried to shake it off, but the hand was firm. Then a voice said, "I take it you’d rather not take a walk tonight."

Mauve’s eyes flew open, and she immediately sat upright, rubbing her eyes. "What did you say?"

Jael chuckled. "How did that wake you up? I’ve been trying to wake you up for a while now, but you wouldn’t even stir. Yet as soon as you hear that your walk might be canceled, you rise."

"Why would you want to cancel it?" Mauve asked in horror, still too sleepy to realize that Jael was only teasing.

"I’m not going to. Did you sleep fine?" he asked, instinctively touching her forehead. Mauve nodded, and he watched the way she melted under his hand. Jael pulled his hand back before he got ideas.

"Yeah, I didn’t even know I had fallen asleep." She wanted to mention that she had gotten nauseated again but decided against it. Jael would tell her to get some rest, and that would definitely hinder her walk which was the opposite of what she needed as son air would be nice.

"That happens. Especially with the baby," he lightly touched her stomach. "You’ll be sleeping more."

Mauve slowly nodded and started to get out of bed. Jael wasted no time in helping her. She grabbed onto his hand, leaning on him as he led her out of her room, down the stairs, and out the front doors.

The moon wasn’t as bright; it was crescent-shaped, and Mauve couldn’t help but smile at the sight of it. They barely spoke as Jael led her around the castle, all the way to the back where she found that the vampires weren’t done for the night.

A few of them sent bows in their direction, while most acted busy. Mauve didn’t care either way; it was just nice to be out with everyone else. "It’s a good night," she whispered to Jael, and he nodded in agreement.
