Chapter 717. I Always Will
Chapter 717: 717. I Always Will
Mauve was made to sit by Jael. Lords and ladies came by their table to say their congratulations but all Mauve could think about was getting something to either eat or drink, or she might throw up all over the very pretty table. When Mauve saw Mill coming towards them with a drink, Mauve’s eyes watered and she almost cried out loud.
"Congratulations, my lady," Mill said as she handed the cup to Mauve.
Mauve gulped it down before she could respond. "Thank you so much, Mill, you have no idea how much I needed that," she whispered, worried that the wrong person might overhear her.
"Don’t thank me," she replied with a laugh, "Louis said that you might need it."
"He was right," she whispered, her eyes watering as she recalled the awful taste.
"Are you saying my blood was that bad?" Jael asked, staring at Mauve with accusations in his eyes.
"It’s not your blood, Jael," she mumbled. "It’s the fact that it’s blood." She shivered at the thought of it. She must really love the vampire to drink blood on his behalf.
"I told you, you didn’t have to," Jael stated.
"I would do it again if I had to."
"Even though you despise it so much?"
She scrunched her face. "Despise is a strong word. I’d say it’s not my favorite drink."
Jael laughed at her statement, and he leaned closer as if to kiss her, but they were interrupted by Lady Marceline and her mate Alaric coming up to congratulate them. Mill quickly excused herself.
"Even though you’re no longer my favorite nephew, I suppose I could congratulate you."
"Lady Marceline," Mauve said with glee.
"My lady," the older vampire said but didn’t curtsy. "I was shocked when you drank Jael’s blood. I am sure it must have tasted awful."
"It did," she admitted.
"Congratulations," a softer voice said.
"Thank you, Lord Alaric." He nodded and shrank even more.
"Lady Marceline, thank you for what you did at the me—"
"Now is not the time, my dear. Besides, that wasn’t my idea. You have Alaric to thank for that. I have to go now. It has been so long since I attended a wedding; I intend to make the most of it." With that, she was gone, disappearing into the crowd.
Not every lord came to say congratulations, and Mauve was fine with that. She was happy with the outcome, and even drinking Jael’s nasty blood did nothing to dampen her spirits.
The more the party progressed, the more comfortable the lords got. Mauve could see a few lords and ladies dancing as the music played. Mauve chuckled at this, and at the corner of her eye, she could have sworn she saw Mill and Louis dancing, but it was hard to say. It might have been the candlelights playing tricks on her eyes.
"Would you like to dance?" Jael suddenly asked.
"I am a terrible dancer," she replied sheepishly.
"Who cares?" he stated. "It feels wrong to not dance on our wedding night."
"You are right," Mauve replied and reluctantly gave Jael her hand. He took it, smiled at her, then lifted her off the seat. Mauve squealed as Jael pulled her out.
If asked what dance moves she had danced, Mauve would be unable to recall, for all she could remember was that she had fun. Jael didn’t keep her dancing for too long—he knew she was tired—and soon enough, they returned to their seats.
Mauve didn’t know how long the party lasted, but she knew she would have been happy had it gone on for longer. Soon enough, though, she could barely stand it anymore, and it took everything to not yawn. Vampires sure could party.
Drink and food were abundant. Of course, there was blood in the mix, and Mauve made sure to avoid those completely. She would make sure not to drink blood ever again. That was enough of an experience.
When they eventually returned to his room, Mauve was exhausted. The past couple of days had certainly taken their toll on her, and she knew all she wanted to do was not leave her bed for the next couple of days.
"That was the best party ever," Mauve announced with a drunk tone to her voice, which was odd as she hadn’t drunk any wine. However, the intoxicated crowd was enough to get to her.
"I am glad you had fun," Jael replied, holding tight onto her to prevent her from tossing herself to the ground.
She turned and wrapped her arms around him, and Jael lifted her off the ground. "Does this mean there would be no one else but me?" she asked as she stared right into his eyes.
"I thought that was already clear."
"What about when I die? I know humans die faster than vampires do. Would you never get remarried?"
Jael didn’t like the way his heart squeezed. It was something he didn’t like to think about. However, it wasn’t something they could deny forever. "Never. I will love you for the rest of my life. Long after you’re gone. I would even die with you."
Mauve shook her head. "I wouldn’t want that. Our baby would most likely live longer than the average human. It would be nice if he at least had his father."
"It would be hard to live without you," he replied and kissed her. "But for you, I’d do anything."
Mauve’s eyes watered. "I love you, Jael, and I am really glad I got to meet you. You know, I used to wonder why I was ever given birth to, but you’ve answered that question, and I am so happy to be alive and to be your mate."
She kissed him, and Jael kissed her just as hard. "I love you, Mauve. I always will," he said as he broke the kiss.
Mauve nodded, she knew he spoke nothing but the truth and she could feel how full her heart was. She would love this vampire until her deathbed, she knew that much.
