Chapter 649. A Little Patience

Chapter 649: 649. A Little Patience

The next couple of days passed in a blur. Mauve was just with Louis practicing. They moved back to the first spell, and she was able to start a finger. He was still teaching her some other spells, especially about hearing. Their current goal was to find something that might help with the patches on her skin.

Jael was equally busy. She hardly spent any time with him except during mealtimes and bedtime. She knew he was making plans about the Palers, but nothing she could hear.

"Kieran is leaving tomorrow night," Jael announced as they sat in bed after the last meal.

"What?" she asked softly. "Why?"

"He isn’t making any headway here, and he figured it would be better at his estate."

"But is it a good idea to move around right now?" Mauve asked with a concerned look on her face.

"We won’t restrict our movements because of them. We will just be cautious and train harder." His jaw hardened a little, and there was a glint in his eyes.

Mauve nodded as Jael spoke. She knew he also joined the training. Louis mentioned that he had seen him training with the axe when no one was looking, but it was hard to believe Louis as he often said things to rile Jael up. The marks on his face were mostly gone now. The paleness was back to his skin, and one had to squint really hard to see the scars left by the burns.

Jael was looking at her, and she realized she was touching his face. Mauve almost pulled her hand away, but Jael didn’t seem to dislike it because he leaned into her touch.

"Your hand is so warm," he whispered and pulled her closer to himself until she was almost sitting on his leg.

"That’s only because your skin is colder. My palm isn’t really that warm," she mumbled.

"I disagree," he replied and kissed her on the lips.

Mauve giggled and kissed him back. A knock broke their kiss, but Mauve remained seated very close to him. The door opened not long after to reveal Mill.

"I apologize for intruding, but I wanted to let Mauve know her bath water is ready and if she would come with me so I can get ready for bed."

Mauve found it a little funny that Mill was addressing Jael even though she was in the room with him.

"No need for that," Jael said with a smile. "I will help her wash up for bed today."

"That’s a bad idea," Mauve said. "I don’t mind Mill helping me prepare for bed."

"She can do it some other time," he said without looking at Mauve. "Do bring in enough bath water for both of us."

"As you wish, Sire." Mill bowed and turned around to leave the room.

"Do you not care about what I want?" Mauve asked.

"Are you saying you don’t want to bathe with me even though you know exactly what that means?" he asked.

Mauve reddened and looked away. "I have no idea what you are talking about."

"You are a terrible liar," Jael chuckled.

"I am not lying," Mauve tried to say but found that her face wasn’t doing what she wanted, and she could feel herself getting excited.

"Don’t you think you ought not to try to lie to me at this point?" he asked as he played with her hair.

"I said I am not lying," she mumbled weakly. All he did was touch her hair. Why was she losing the ability to speak properly? She palmed her face, trying to find how flustered she was getting.

He fiddled with the strands closest to her face, and his cold fingers lightly teased her skin as he traced her hair. He brought his head closer, but Mauve looked straight ahead. She was sure he could see the desire clear as day in her eyes. However, from the light she could pick out from the corner of his eyes, she wasn’t the only one getting excited.

"Mauve," he called softly, breathing into her ear. His husky voice made its way through her eardrums and headed straight for her brain, preventing her from thinking straight. "Let me help you out of this," he whispered.

Mauve swallowed as she felt his hand on the necklace around her neck. She nodded and adjusted so he could access it. He moved her head to the side and carefully traced the necklace before tugging on the hook and undoing it. Mauve could clearly hear her breath as she counted the seconds it took him to.

Even though he had unhooked the necklace, Jael didn’t take his hands away from her neck as he gently caressed the outline before slowly pulling it to the side and then leaning over her shoulder. "Stretch out your palm," he said, and she obliged.

A soft knock momentarily brought Mauve to her senses, but Jael didn’t let go of her. He lifted her off the bed and onto his legs just as he gave the order for Mill to come in. She squealed but immediately held her voice in when the doors opened. Mill and the servants bowed before placing the water and bathtub in the corner. They bowed again, and just as they had appeared, they left.

Jael pressed her down onto himself as he kissed her exposed neck. His teeth teased her skin, and he littered kisses from under her ear to where her dress started on her shoulder. His hand moved to the back as he carefully undid the ropes.

"I am doing my best not to rip this dress," he whispered. "Considering, you won’t stop complaining even though I said I can get you as many dresses as you want. Double the amount I can possibly tear apart."

"D-don’t rip the dress." Mauve cleared her throat. She couldn’t believe how she sounded. "Isn’t it more appealing to take your time?" she asked.

Jael’s hands paused as he undid the ropes, and for a second, Mauve wondered if she had said something wrong. "I never said that," he said and continued. "But sometimes I just want to dive right in, and right now is one of those times."

"There is nothing wrong with a little patience," she replied.

"Patience?" he asked with amused surprise. "Are you saying I need to learn patience?"

"That’s definitely not what I said," she replied.

He pulled the ropes but not enough to make the dress fall off. He spun her around, forcing her to look at him. She straddled him as he sat, her legs resting on the bed. "That’s what I heard."

Mauve could clearly see the glint in his eyes. It was a mix of arousal and mischief. Somehow she could tell she would regret the words she had said to him by the look in his eyes. He bent his head and kissed her, but he didn’t pry her lips open. He just kissed her softly on the lips.

Jael’s hand moved to her chest as he kissed her, and he traced the outline through her dress. Mauve could feel it, but it was barely enough, and she found herself leaning toward him as she wanted more.

He smiled into her lips and finally deepened the kiss, but just as she was about to kiss him back, he pulled away and kissed her chest, littering the top of her bosom with kisses. He didn’t make any attempt to take her clothes off.

Mauve squirmed, rubbing on him as she tried to get him to move faster. She reached for the front of his shirt and tried to take his clothes off, but he pulled her hand away and lifted her off himself. He placed her on the ground, and for a second, Mauve’s feet couldn’t remember how to work.

"Stand," he commanded, and she nodded.

Her feet steadied, and her knees locked her to the floor. He stood behind her, hovering over her as she slowly and painfully took her dress off. Mauve could only stand still as she waited.

She couldn’t help but notice that he avoided touching her skin as he took her clothes off, and he was taking an unnecessary amount of time. When her dress fell off her shoulders, Mauve was on fire. It was funny how she was burning hot without him touching her.

She spun around suddenly as she stood in nothing but her undergarments. Jael looked a little shocked, but he recovered quickly and made to take off the rest of her clothes, but Mauve beat him to it. Her face was as red as a beetroot as she took off her underwear herself.

Jael could only watch in awe as she undressed herself, and as soon as she was done, she stretched her hands to his pants and undid them. Jael was moving before he realized it. One moment, she had her hands on his pants; the next moment, she was on the bed with his lips locked on hers.
