The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 647. Fifth Night
Chapter 647: 647. Fifth Night
It wasn’t until the fifth night that Jael finally left her bedroom. Mauve woke up to see him staring at her. She looked up at him and smiled before stretching her lips. "Did you sleep well?" she asked through a yawn.
"You could say that, and by that sound, it’s safe to assume you slept well."
"I did," she grinned proudly at him.
She pulled herself into a sitting position, resting her back on the wood. "How do you feel generally?" she asked, giving him a concerned gaze.
Jael shrugged and rolled onto his back. "The same," he mumbled.
Mauve stretched her hand to touch his face, and he let her. The flakes had come off, and all that was left was for the redness to fade out, and he would be back to his old pale self. Vampires never scarred except when the wound was caused by a Paler’s bite. It left an ominous dark scar that usually faded with time, but it made it clear the wound was from a Paler’s bite.
Mauve moved from touching his face to his hair. "Did it grow longer because you were cooped up here?" she asked with a small laugh as she played with his hair.
"You think it’s longer?" he asked and stretched out his hand to his hair, but he touched her hand instead, obviously deliberate. He stared at her from the corner of his eyes as their skin touched.
"Uh-huh," she replied. "You have really pretty hair. Black as night," she grinned.
"Your hair is prettier," he said and looked away, pulling his hand away from her warm skin.
"No, it isn’t. It makes me look a little weird and older," she replied.
"Weird?" he asked and sat upright. "You really think that."
"Not really, but I do think the white streaks have been increasing recently."
Jael’s expression got serious as he stared at her hair, and Mauve looked to the bed at his intense gaze. "I don’t think so," he replied.
He slowly lifted her chin to make her look at him and brought down his lips to kiss her. Mauve’s eyes widened briefly before she melted into it and kissed him back. She wrapped her arms around him before she realized. This was the first time he had initiated physical touch other than cuddles since the attack.
He avoided anything more, and Mauve didn’t try. She was a little used to Jael making all the moves. It wasn’t that she was adverse to it; it just felt a little embarrassing, and it was obvious he didn’t want anything in that direction, so she had kept to herself.
Jael pulled away, and she looked at him with half-closed eyes, her desire seeping out of her. She was met with a proud smirk as Jael stared down at her with glowing eyes. His fangs were a little longer, and he was clearly aroused.
"Oh, you missed me," he gloated.
"Jael," she chided. "Don’t brag about that."
"Why not?" he asked as he pulled her into his lap. "I missed you too," he replied and littered the side of her neck with kisses.
Mauve subconsciously leaned into his kisses, and she half-expected him to dig his teeth into her skin and drink, but he didn’t. He just affectionately kissed her all over. He was still holding her to himself when Mill knocked on the door. Mauve jerked, even as she fought the urge to jump out of his lap, but Jael hadn’t been this intimate with her in a while, and she didn’t want to ruin it by fleeing.
"Oh," Jael said and ran his overgrown teeth over her skin. "Did you miss me that much that you don’t mind an audience?"
Mauve’s eyes widened as she felt him grow even more under her. "She’s still outside," she mumbled, covering her red face as she spoke.
"Not for much longer," he said.
Mauve froze. "You wouldn’t?"
"I won’t," he chuckled. "We will continue this at a later time," he said and kissed the back of her neck.
It was a long kiss, and Mauve was almost certain it left a mark, but at least it was somewhere her hair would cover. He reluctantly pushed her off his lap and got out of bed.
"Where are you going?" she asked.
"To my room. I usually get dressed there. I will leave you to get ready," he replied without looking at her.
"But you’ve been dressing up here," she whispered. Worry was clearly written all over her face. She knew he was washing up in her room, but she had never seen him. He usually did it while she was out, but today seemed to be different for some reason she didn’t know.
"Well, I do appreciate the invitation, but unless you want us to be late for the last meal, I suggest you let me leave." He turned around to look at her, his gaze traveling the length and width of her body.
Mauve clung to her nightdress, but she didn’t try to appear modest or cover herself. "Wait, does that mean we would have our first meal in the dining room?"
Jael nodded and started walking away from the bed. "Come in," he called to the door.
Mill pushed the door open and walked in. "Good day, Sire," she said and bowed her head as she stood by the door.
"Get her dressed," he said as he headed for the connecting door. "I will see you two in a few minutes."
Mauve nodded vigorously, even though he wasn’t particularly talking to her, and she didn’t stop looking at him until he left the room and shut the door behind him. She slowly turned to see Mill walking towards her.
"Jael is going to eat in the dining hall," she said with glee.
"I heard," Mill nodded.
Mauve rushed out of bed. "I should get ready," she whispered more to herself than to Mill.
"That’s what I am here for," Mill replied, smiling at Mauve.
"I’m so glad," she grinned and walked towards the bathing section.
"The servants will be here with your water soon enough. Do you want to pick out your dress in the meantime?" Mill suggested.
"Yes," she replied and walked to the wardrobe.
"What do you think I should pick?" she asked as she looked at the row of numerous dresses hanging in the wardrobe.
"Well, something beautiful," Mill said.
Mauve giggled, "All the dresses are beautiful."
"I’m not done," Mill said and walked towards Mauve with a hint of something in her eyes. "Something that shows a little skin. All you’ve worn recently are your long-sleeved dresses."
"You know why," Mauve said in response.
"Yes, but I’m sure we can try something a little bit shorter," Mill replied. "You have such beautiful skin compared to us vampires; it’s a shame you have to hide it."
"Hmm, as long as I don’t feel uncomfortable in it. I guess I can let you decide."
Mill clapped her hands together. "Leave it to me."
Mauve shook her head and walked away from the wardrobe. It was funny how Mill was quite modest, but when it came to choosing the dresses she would wear, she always preferred less. Mauve thought this characteristic reminded her of Vae. She wondered if the maid was doing alright and if her mother was fine.
She made a mental note to write a letter to her brother as soon as she could, and hopefully, she would be able to get a response soon enough. Mauve was worried they might not be able to help the older woman, and it made her realize just how lucky she was.
The dress they settled for stopped about half her arms; some of the whitish marks showed, but it wasn’t glaring. She wondered how long it would take before they faded away completely. The dress had flowery patterns that matched her skin tone, and the corset fit her just right.
"What do you think?" Mill asked as she stared at her in the dressing mirror.
"I like it," Mauve said with a huge smile.
"And the hair?" she asked.
Mauve opened her mouth to reply when the door opened to reveal Jael standing at the entrance. He walked into her room, and for a second, Mauve forgot where she was. Perhaps it was because all she had seen of him was his ruffled hair in her bed for the past couple of days, but the sight in front of her was a little hard to believe.
Jael was dressed in a tailored suit. The tail was long enough to reach the back of his knees. The embroidery designs in front of the cloth were what had her attention, but more importantly, she was drawn to his face. His face was still a little red, but the redness was mostly on his left side. His hair was tied upwards, and she was right, his ponytail was longer.
"Are you ready?" he asked.
