The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 632. Brooding
Chapter 632: 632. Brooding
"Why didn’t you tell me you had more injuries?" she cried as he took his shirt off. "This is even worse than the one on your cheek."
They were back in his bedroom. Jael wanted to wash off the fight before it was time for the last meal. It had seemed as though he wanted her to leave the room, and she had found it a bit odd that she insisted on staying. Thank goodness she did.
"I didn’t realize," he lied.
Mauve lifted herself from the bed and rushed to him. "Liar!" she accused.
"It’s not bleeding anymore. Besides, you asked if I was hurt anywhere else. This doesn’t count since it doesn’t hurt."
Mauve didn’t think; she smacked his wound. It wasn’t bleeding, but she was sure it hurt. Jael didn’t flinch from pain but from surprise. "Didn’t that hurt?" she asked stubbornly.
Jael blinked as he stared down at her. "Not really."
"But it’s not a no," she replied.
"It’s not," he admitted.
"Then you should have told me," she replied.
"I guess I should have."
"That’s not enough!"
Mauve glared at him and stared at the wound. She could tell it was healing, but it must have been a little deep compared to the one on his cheek. She glanced, staring sternly at him. Was he alright? She thought he had been acting odd since the fight.
"Sorry, I hit your wound."
"Don’t apologize," he replied and took the palm she had used to hit him and placed it on his chest. He held it there as he held her gaze, and Mauve blushed. He didn’t have to look at her so intensely.
She pouted, feeling flustered. She could clearly feel his muscles under her palm. "Still, I shouldn’t have done that."
He pressed her palm against his chest as he stared into her eyes. Mauve found that she couldn’t look away. His palm was cold against her, and his knuckles were stained with dried blood.
"You should join me," Jael whispered. "Your hands are stained with blood."
"Absolutely not! I can wash it off," Mauve said sternly, snapping out of the trance as she tried to pull her hand away. He couldn’t possibly be thinking of that right now.
He smirked at her and slowly let go of her. He walked to the bath corner and stepped into the tub while Mauve returned to the bed. She dropped on it and held her hands to her chest. She could still feel his touch against the back of her palm.
"Did you speak to Jean?" he suddenly asked. Mauve jerked. His question had been so unexpected she had been unprepared for it. He frowned as he took note of her reaction. "Did you not speak to him?"
She didn’t think he would be the one to bring up the topic and thought she would have a better time to ask him, but there was no way she couldn’t tell him now. If she brought it up later, he would be suspicious, but right now was not a good time to ask. He was still brooding.
"I did," she whispered. "Before the second meal." She dragged out her words as the wheels in her head turned for a good way to broach the subject. Perhaps she would hint at it now and bring it up later.
"Okay. Did you learn anything?" he asked.
Jael just sat in the tub and stared at her. Even though there was quite a distance between them, Mauve knew he could clearly see her, and he was closely watching her as he asked.
She had given away that she was hiding something, and she knew he would probe for it. Mauve sighed. "Kind of."
"What did you learn?" he asked.
"Well, Jean was very open to the idea and he is willing to teach me. Not only that, he also intends to show me how to plant them in my garden," she mumbled.
"That’s wonderful. If they are within your reach, there is no cause for worry. That’s a brilliant idea."
"I thought the same thing too," she replied and smiled at him, but it didn’t reach her eyes.
Jael frowned and got out of the water. "But?" he asked as he took the towel. He just placed it on his wet hair, not caring that the rest of him was dripping water.
Mauve forced herself to keep her gaze locked on his face. Not his chest, not his arms, not his veiny legs, and certainly not that. He took a step forward, and she clearly saw it move, which should practically be impossible as she had her gaze on his face.
"Trying to distract me won’t work, Mauve. What is it?"
Distract him? She was doing no such thing. Here he was, walking towards her stark naked with water dripping down his muscled pale skin, and she was the one distracting him.
"What are you talking about?" she asked with what she hoped was a stern expression.
"You know exactly what I am talking about," he replied.
"You’ll wet the carpet," she said.
"It’s already wet." He stopped in front of her, and Mauve swallowed.
"Staring at it is not the best idea."
"I-I am not."
Now that it aligned perfectly with her sight, it was harder to look away. Was he doing this on purpose? She wouldn’t put it past Jael. Mauve stood to her feet. This was a serious situation; she couldn’t be distracted.
She folded her arms and stared at Jael right in the eyes. "I wanted to talk about this later, in better circumstances, and not while you’re in a sour mood."
"I am not in a sour mood," he replied, but the tic in his jaw said otherwise.
"Okay," she said even though she didn’t believe him. "I have a request," she mumbled.
"I am listening," Jael added, his gaze already changing.
Mauve could tell that he knew it was something he wouldn’t like. "Promise you will consider it before you say no."
"Let me hear what it is first," he said, narrowing his gaze.
"Jael," she called softly.
"Fine," he said and took a step closer. "What is it?"
