The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 551. Disrespectful
Chapter 551: 551. Disrespectful
"Would I get a kiss for that then?" He asked with all seriousness.
"Jael," Mauve cried, not missing the laugh from Mill who was watching them from the corner.
"There is no harm in asking," he whispered as he slowly let go of her while she returned to her seat by the dresser.
Mill got back to work and was soon done with her hair. Mauve stood up and walked hand in hand with Jael as they left her room to the dining hall.
The hall was pretty filled, it didn’t look like any of the Lords had left at all. Lord Garth and his family were the only ones she couldn’t see.
She sat across Louis and he gave her a knowing look. Lady Marceline looked a little bored and didn’t so much as glance in Mauve’s direction, rather she was gazing at her mate who looked to be clinging onto her tighter than usual.
Her gaze drifted to the rest of the vampires in the hall and Mauve stiffened as her eyes rested on Seraphino.
She didn’t like the way he stared at her. It was creepy, that was the only way she could explain it. She looked away immediately, making a mental note not to look in that direction again.
She was truly glad they had gotten Vae away from him and she wondered what the young woman was up to. Mauve hoped she had been able to get back safely.
Mauve walked out with Jael in the same manner when the first meal ended.
"What would you do today?" He asked.
"Well," she replied, leaning into him as they walked. She realized she was learning a bad habit of throwing most of her weight on him while walking.
"I am listening..."
"Ah, yes. I was thinking I’d continue with the letters," she explained.
"There is no need for that," Jael responded.
"Still, I have already made significant progress, there is no need to stop now."
Jael groaned, "Well then if you insist. I will probably have a bunch of meetings today so I’ll be quite busy."
"Don’t you need your study then?" She asked.
"No," he replied. "I’ll use the drawing room. If anything comes up, you know where to find me."
Mauve nodded, grinning up at Jael as they got to the top of the stairs. He led her to his study and opened the door to let her in.
Mauve rushed in, noticing that there was a burning candle on Jael’s desk. She wondered if it was from the meeting he had with Lord Garth. She realized he didn’t tell her what it was about but she found that she wasn’t all that curious.
She threw herself on his seat while he watched her with an amused expression on his face. He walked closer, stopping beside her.
"Would you like anything while you work?" He whispered as he touched the side of her face.
"Not right now," she replied, wincing at the letters she had to attend to.
"I’ll be right underneath you. The drawing room is located underneath my study."
"Alright. I will be fine, you don’t need to look so worried," she whispered.
"I am not worried, just slightly ticked off but soon enough, they will be all out of my castle and I’ll spend more time with you."
She nodded in reply, smiling up at him. "I will see you later but if I’m not here when you drop by, I’ll most likely be upstairs, attending to the garden."
"Okay but don’t move around without Mill, I will tell a guard to let her know you’re in here and they will watch your door."
Mauve nodded, though she doubted any vampire would pay her any mind enough to seek her out. The most likely person to interrupt her peace was Louis and she needed to have a word with him.
Jael gave her one last look and leaning downwards he whispered, "I will make sure to keep my chest hidden."
Mauve blushed, "You can let it go now," she replied, trying to show her annoyance.
"Are you sure about that?" He asked with a raised brow as he pulled away from her.
"Yes, now go."
He laughed and started walking towards the door. He walked out without a backward glance.
Mauve blinked as she looked at the closed door. Even though she was the one who chased him off, she missed his company already.
Mauve shook her head and tried to get to work. She knew she would be bored soon so it was best to work as fast as she could.
Mauve had barely gotten anywhere in reading the letters when the door was thrown open and Lady Marceline walked in, she was alone.
Mauve sat upright immediately, moving the letter to the side. "Lady Marceline," she called, standing to her feet. "Jael isn’t here, he should be in the drawing room."
"I know," she replied, walking further into the study. She threw herself on the seat, staring hard at Mauve. Her porcelain face was devoid of emotions and Mauve didn’t know how to react.
"Go on, don’t mind me," Lady Marceline said while Mauve stood unmoving.
"I don’t think that’s possible," Mauve whispered as she took her seat.
"Right! I am sure my presence makes you uncomfortable."
"I wouldn’t say that..."
"You don’t have to sugarcoat your words. I won’t."
"Okay," Mauve replied. "Is something wrong?" She found herself asking.
"Is it that obvious?" Lady Marceline asked.
Mauve shook her head. "No, not at all. I wouldn’t say that. I was just wondering."
"Nothing is wrong in the sense that you think."
"Okay," she replied and tried to return to work but she knew that wouldn’t be possible not with the way Lady Marceline was staring down at her.
"What about Lord Alaric? Your mate?" Her voice was a bit unsteady. She wasn’t sure if this was something she could ask Marceline about.
Lady Marceline gave her a strange look and Mauve immediately thought she must have the worst luck in the world. She had managed to piss off Jael’s aunt in less than two minutes.
"I suppose it is a bit unusual to see me without him," her tone was dry as she spoke.
Mauve nodded a little too hard in response. Instead of replying, Marceline stared some more, she tilted her head to the side as she stared at Mauve.
"Is something wrong with him?" Mauve asked with concern.
"I still don’t get why he fancies you, you’re no different from any human I’ve met."
Mauve’s back stiffened, she wasn’t sure if Marceline was talking about Jael or Alaric and frankly she was too scared to ask.
"Alaric is overwhelmed," she went on without missing a beat. "He’s asleep, I had to leave him alone so I wouldn’t disturb him and here I am to bother you, do you mind?" Marceline asked.
Mauve shook her head, she couldn’t exactly say yes. "Okay," she mumbled, trying to get back to work.
"What do you think of Jael?" She suddenly asked.
"What?" Mauve blinked, shocked that Marceline was striking up another conversation.
"You heard me, what do you think of my nephew? I know he is a pain in the arse and frankly a whole lot of work." Marceline peered strangely at her.
"I don’t think my opinion is important," Mauve whispered looking at her desk.
"Why not?" Marceline asked. "Even Louis speaks highly of you, Alaric is insisting I shouldn’t bully you and even a blind man can see Jael is completely floored by you. To say your opinion isn’t important is almost disrespectful."
Mauve forced herself to meet Marceline’s eyes. The vampire made her a little jittery. Maybe, it was the confidence she exuded or her stare as though she could see right through Mauve.
"I didn’t mean to be disrespectful," Mauve replied.
"I know, I can see you being careful. It’s not completely a bad thing but at the same time, it makes me wonder. If any woman could bend Jael to their will I assumed she would be closer to Jevera than you excluding the part where you’re human of course. I wouldn’t use the word disappointed but what I feel is pretty close. However, simultaneously I am intrigued."
"By me?" Mauve asked.
"More like by your relationship with Jael. That’s why I ask what you thought of him."
"He is nice..." Mauve paused when Marceline snickered.
"Go on," she replied. "Nice was not the first thing I expected you to say."
"And he..." she paused.
Marceline smiled, "I guess even you will find it hard to say something good about him."
"I am not finding it hard," Mauve blurted out. "It’s just not very easy to gather my thoughts when you’re staring at me like that."
"Oh," Marceline whispered, her eyes sparkling. "Like what? Does it make you uncomfortable?" She asked.
"I wouldn’t use uncomfortable but it does feel malicious."
"You should be used to this," Marceline said.
"What?" She asked, forgetting to be polite.
"You heard me," Marceline said.
