The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 500. Plum Chicken
Chapter 500: 500. Plum Chicken
Mauve’s eyes widened at the realization. Was she going to bear a vampire’s child? Jael’s child. Was that possible?
She had never heard or seen a human bear a vampire’s child before but Lady Marceline had spoken about it so casually as though it was a regular occurrence.
She touched her stomach, she doubted it though. She didn’t know anything about pregnancy but she was sure if she was she would know by now.
She covered her face. She would definitely love to carry Jael’s child but would she be a good mother?
She could do the basics but taking care of a baby was completely different from doing chores.
"Oh," she palmed her face again but this time around it was hard enough to hurt.
"Aw!" She groaned.
She shook her head, she shouldn’t think about this and she should go back to work.
Mauve picked up the letter but she was barely able to read a line before her thoughts strayed again.
She placed her head on the table. Lady Marceline’s words weren’t the only surprising thing that happened but it was the only thing she could think about.
She was a bit surprised Lord Alaric didn’t hate her, in fact, he actively liked her enough so that it annoyed Lady Marceline.
However, Mauve wasn’t sure if she should think about this as a good thing because his reaction to her was the way she would react if she saw a cute puppy.
The only reason he wasn’t all up in her face as she would is because he was shy and obviously not the greatest at socializing.
That didn’t bother her though, she was glad that he found her-however he found her-she wasn’t sure what word to use.
What was more concerning was the fact that she could have Jael’s child. Humans could get pregnant by vampires, right?
She frowned, was this something she could ask Jael? She shook her head, there was no way she could let him know she was interested in this topic.
What about Louis? Mauve shook her head immediately, he would never let her live it down.
There was only one thing she could do. She could casually ask Mill. She wondered what the vampire would say.
Mauve groaned and pulled herself from the table only to lean back on the chair. If Lady Marceline’s agenda was to distract her, she has fully succeeded.
The door pushed open and Mauve’s eyes flew to it. She saw it was Jael and made no attempt to move from her position.
He frowned and closed the door behind him. Within seconds he was by her side.
"Why the long face?" He asked and scooped her up.
Mauve curved in his arms, enjoying the nice feeling of being elevated. "Nothing."
He raised a brow and sat down, putting her on his legs. "Are you exhausted?"
"Something like that?" She whispered and leaned against himself, hiding her face in his chest.
"Hmm, I am listening."
"I might need a little break."
"Okay," he replied. "Take as long as you need.
She nodded. "Oh, that reminds me, Lady Marceline was here."
Jael’s gaze darkened immediately. Mauve wasn’t looking at his face but she could tell.
"What did she tell you? Is that why you’re glum?" He asked.
"No, she was nice."
"Nice?" He asked in horror.
Mauve nodded. Sure, Lady Marceline had called her a plum chicken but she had said it nicely.
"Are you sure we are talking about the same person?" He asked.
"Yes," she replied.
"Well if she wasn’t here to pester you, what did she want?"
"She was looking for you and she told me to let you know when you returned."
Jael squinted his eyes at her as though he didn’t believe her words. "Was that really all she said?"
Mauve nodded, "Yep."
"She didn’t say anything rude, didn’t insult you or anything like that?"
Mauve shook her head.
"I find that hard to believe."
"Why not?"
Jael sighed, "Marceline isn’t nice. Her favorite pastime is to take jabs at people at whatever chance she gets."
"She seems nice to me," Mauve said, adamantly.
"Okay, if you say so." He shook his head slightly as though he still couldn’t believe his ears.
"What did you go out to do?" Mauve asked.
"Nothing peculiar, the renovations should be complete in two days."
"Oh my, that’s nice. I can’t wait to see it." Mauve grinned.
"Do you want me to take you when it’s done?" He asked.
Mauve’s eyes widened, "Yes please," she whispered, trying not to show how excited she really was.
"Alright then. How are the letters going? Think you can finish reading them in a week?" He asked.
Mauve palmed her face and then stubbornly raised her head. "Yes," her response sounded more confident than she felt.
Jael chuckled and kissed her forehead, "I believe you."
"Jael," she scolded.
He was still laughing as he pulled away.
"Jael," she called suddenly, her tone serious.
"Yes," he asked as his brows dipped a lot.
"Would you get into trouble if the Lords were to find out I am reading their letters?"
Jael’s face relaxed immediately. "So? At least their letters are getting read. I was going to throw them out."
"Wouldn’t that be bad for you?" She asked with concern.
He scoffed, "Of course not! Who told you that?"
She looked away from him, "Lady Marceline might have mentioned how the Lords wouldn’t be pleased if they found out a human girl was the one reading their letters."
Jael chuckled, "She’s not wrong."
Mauve would have sworn his eyes glimmered for a bit. "Should I stop?" She asked.
"Because of them? But if this is your way of running away from the letters, I know they are a lot of boring work, I understand."
"I am not running."
"Then don’t be bothered about the thoughts of people you don’t even know."
Jael’s words sounded pretty final. Maybe he was right but at the same time, she couldn’t help but worry.
