The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 470. Terrible At Cheering
Chapter 470: 470. Terrible At Cheering
Mauve sat upright in Jael’s bed, rubbing her eyes. She didn’t have a lot to do today but she still had some work.
Louis said he was going to have the final draft by the time they woke up for them to review it. She would have to see it after the first meal.
That was when she noticed she was the only one in the room which wasn’t completely odd but Jael had been right there when she woke up for the past couple of days.
It was probably important. There was no reason to worry and she would just ask him about it when she saw him. She didn’t dwell too much on it and got herself out of bed.
She had to get ready for the first meal and more importantly, she had to get ready for the meeting.
Mill attended to her quickly, Mauve thought the vampire looked agitated, or maybe she was just reading too much.
But she didn’t have much to say and neither did Mill. The bath was pretty quiet and she just put her thoughts on other things.
Mauve frowned at the knock, Jael would never knock. "Who is it?"
"Me," Louis’ voice rang out.
"Come in," she said and Mill continued with her hair. The door was thrown open and Louis walked in.
"What happened?" She asked, looking at him from the side of her eyes so she wouldn’t disrupt Mill’s work.
"I came to get you," he announced.
Mauve forgot all about not disrupting Mill’s work and turned her head so fast, that she ripped her hair out of Mill’s grip.
"Mauve," Mill called out in panic. "Your hair, oh no."
"It doesn’t hurt," she said to Mill without turning to look at her, and in the same breath she asked Louis, "What does that mean? Where is Jael?"
"Unfortunately, he won’t be able to make it and he sends his regrets."
"Be serious, Louis. Why not?" She didn’t like the taste of bile that was slowly rising in her throat.
"A situation. An estate was attacked," he responded with a solemn gaze. "But I assure you it is nothing to worry about, it was nothing serious."
"Was anybody harmed?" She asked.
"We would have to wait for confirmation," Louis responded. "Until Jael and his three musketeers return, I am afraid I can’t tell you what happened because I do not know."
Mauve didn’t like the way he said the last part as if he didn’t want her to think he was hiding something from her. It meant he was hiding something from her.
She was worried, the fact that Jael himself had to go meant a lot. He could have sent Louis or Danag or even Erick but he went by himself.
This was definitely more than enough reason to be concerned as Jael wasn’t the type to do things he didn’t absolutely need to.
"Okay," she responded, forcing herself to breathe as she turned away from Louis.
She adjusted her head so Mill could have access to it and continue. However, at this point, she would prefer if Mill just left it as it was.
"Yep," Louis responded.
"Did he say when he would be back?" She asked.
"Most likely before sunrise, I doubt he would want to sleep elsewhere. Don’t worry too much about it and you can ask him when he returns."
"Okay," she said. She sounded absentminded but that was the only way she could force herself not to think about it.
There was no reason to get worked up when there was no reason to get worked up. She would need to have some patience.
"All done," Mill said and it felt like Mill was far away when she spoke.
She blinked and looked at the mirror but she couldn’t see anything. "Thank you," she whispered with a soft smile. It didn’t reach her eyes.
"You’re welcome. I can join you for the first meal if you want," she added when Mauve didn’t say anything.
"What?" Mauve asked, giving her a dazed look.
"I said, I can join you for the first meal if you want."
"That would be absolutely lovely, I suggest that you do," Louis immediately chimed.
Mauve gave him the side eye and said to Mill, "Are you sure about that? You don’t have to inconvenience yourself on my behalf."
"It is no problem really, besides, the table will mostly be filled with people you don’t know. So I am very glad to help."
"Thank you," Mauve grinned.
Mill was absolutely right. Now that Jael and his personal guards were gone the only people she knew at the table would be Louis and Kieran.
"Wait, did Kieran leave too?"
Louis shook his head, "There was no need for that. I told you it was nothing to be worried about."
"Okay," she whispered.
"Alright. I guess it is decided. I have to go get cleaned up. I will meet you two in the hall. Go on without me."
Mauve waved at her as Mill walked to the door and didn’t stop waving until the door shut.
She turned her gaze to Louis and he gave her an odd look. She frowned at him and he sighed and walked toward her.
"Would you not look so concerned? You’d think I told you he’s on his deathbed. You shouldn’t worry so much, he is fine."
"Well, worrying is the only thing I can do so let me worry," she whispered, looking away from him.
"Well at least put those thoughts aside for the first meal. You can worry in your own time. Having you in such a sour mood when I just want to eat will surely ruin my meal." He stretched out his hand at her and she accepted it.
"You know," she said when she stood on her feet. "You are terrible at cheering people up."
She pulled her hand from his grasp to grab her dress. As she made her way to the door, she could clearly hear him laughing.
