The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 452. Her Request
Chapter 452: 452. Her Request
Mauve laid on Jael’s chest, spent. Her back was hurting but it was more sore than painful. She knew she was flexible but she wasn’t that flexible.
To make matters worse, Jael had not been satisfied and they had gone once more. Her limbs felt like it didn’t belong to her. She knew she would have a hard time waking up at sunset.
She yawned, exhausted. She could tell that if she lay on his comfortable chest without saying a word, she would fall asleep within seconds.
"Go to sleep," Jael’s voice reached her ears. "I am sure you’re tired."
Mauve narrowed her eyes, he didn’t have to sound so smug. "I am not that tired."
This was a lie but proving him wrong wasn’t the only reason she had to stay awake. This would most likely be the only time she would be able to bring up the topic before sunset and by then it would be too late.
"Really? Doesn’t seem that way to me," he smirked down at her.
"I am stronger than you think," she replied.
"I know," he smiled at her. "I have seen firsthand how strong you can be." He wiggled his eyebrows at her and Mauve giggled.
She could tell he was in a good mood. Her stomach knotted a bit. Knowing Jael he would definitely react stiffly. She sighed. Why did she take on this job?
He wrapped his arm around her as he pulled her to himself. Mauve swallowed, it almost felt like a stone was going down her throat. How would she bring up the topic?
"I went to the library today," she said. It was the only thing she could think of that she could easily shift to Louis.
"I know, except there is something that happened that you want to tell me about."
She nodded lightly. "I found out a bit about the Old Language and Magic."
She felt Jael stiffen up a little. She wondered which of the topics he was adverse to. However, he didn’t say anything.
"Louis said he couldn’t teach me the Old Language because he doubted the other vampires would like it."
"You don’t need Louis to teach you anything," Jael said darkly. "There would be no reason for you to use it."
She pouted, "Surely, it shouldn’t be such a bad thing to learn."
"I suppose but it wouldn’t be wise to spend all that time learning something you’d never use."
"Fine," she said with a long sigh.
She was really just putting up an act. It would be good to learn the language but as she has found out, that wasn’t her forte. It was hard to switch the topic over to Louis.
"What about magic?" She suddenly blurted. "Do you think it’s real?"
Jael looked down at her and she lifted her head to look at him. "Don’t let Louis fill your head with nonsense."
She squinted her eyes. "I don’t think Louis is all that bad."
"A bold statement considering you don’t even know him."
"I like to think I am a great judge of character."
"Hah!" Jael mocked.
"Jael," she scolded.
"Fine, if that’s what you believe but don’t worry too much about Louis." He ruffled her hair as he spoke. "If you have all that time, spend it thinking about me instead."
"I think about you all the time, it’s fine if I think about someone else once in a while."
Mauve didn’t realize what she said until she saw Jael’s reaction. She didn’t mean to phrase it like that.
"So, you think about me all the time," Jael said, bringing his face closer to hers. His eyes were bright as he held her gaze.
She blushed lightly, "I didn’t say that." Now they were completely off-topic.
"That’s exactly what you said and you don’t have to take it back. I think about you all the time too. You’re the most important in my life right now. Everything else is secondary."
Mauve blinked, feeling a tug in her heart. What was she supposed to say to that?
Jael smirked at her, "I like when you’re at a loss for words."
"Jael," she cried and hid her face on his chest.
He chuckled and held her closer. She lay in his hands for a bit savoring the silence and what he had just said to her. She was so happy she could cry.
"Jael," she called softly after a few minutes had passed.
"Yes," he responded, lightly touching her hair.
"Can I ask you a question?"
"Uh hmm," he responded. She could feel his nose on her head.
"Promise you won’t get mad?"
He paused and she felt him pull away from her. "I can’t promise but I will try."
"That’s not enough," she said and raised her head to look at him.
"I know but the fact that you thought to make me promise not to get mad means I most likely would."
She sighed and rested her chin on her arms which she placed on his chest. "Fair enough."
"Ask," he ordered, holding her gaze. "I am curious."
Mauve blinked, she knew this was a bad idea. He was in such a good mood. She didn’t want them fighting again but this was something she had to do.
Truthfully, she knew she didn’t play a great role and sometimes it chewed at her. However, this was one of those times she knew she was the only one who could get this done, the consequences be damned.
Mauve held Jael’s gaze. Summoning all the courage she could muster she opened her mouth to speak.
"Would it be too much if I asked you to forgive Louis and let him stay in the castle?"
Mauve asked the question in one breath, she didn’t start breathing again until the end of the question. Only for her breath to catch in her throat at Jael’s reaction.
At first, he gave her a confused look as he processed the question. Confusion quickly turned to appall.
