The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 307. Not Right

Chapter 307: 307. Not Right

Mauve felt very warm as she sat on Jael’s legs, she didn’t want to let go. The past couple of days made her realize just how helpless she was around vampires.

Jael made her forget how vicious they could be and how completely different her story would have been if he hadn’t taken a liking to her.

Her life was already so much better, it would be greediness for her to ask for more. However, she couldn’t help the thought that it wasn’t enough.

The door flew open and Mill walked in with a huge bath. She bowed her head toward their direction and proceeded to place the bath in the corner of the room.

She took a couple of steps forward and stopped a few feet from the bed. "I already informed Mister Herbert of your presence and he has moved the second meal to as long as you need to get ready. He informed the guests and they don’t mind waiting."

A frown appeared on Jael’s face but he simply said, "That’s fine Mill, you may leave."

She looked a bit hesitant but simply nodded and scurried to the door. She looked back as she opened the door and her eyes met with Mauve. She smiled sadly and walked out of the room.

"Did something happen while I was away?" He asked.

"No," she replied, shaking her head slightly.

"Did you miss me?" He asked.

She blushed and turned her head away from him. He didn’t have to ask that, she was sure it was pretty obvious that she did.

"I will take that as a yes," he gently lifted her and placed her in a sitting position on the bed.

"As much as I would like to continue what I started," he said, tucking some hair behind her left ear. "I am sure I reek and you smell so good, I don’t want to rub off on you."

She nodded and said, "I’ll let you have your bath."

Jael lifted her chin and kissed her briefly on the cheeks before he turned away. He took off his clothes in a pile and got into the water.

Mauve lifted her legs and placed them on the bed with her knees bent. She rested her chin on them as she watched him.

Of course, he wouldn’t say a word about what happened before he left and the fact that she had expected he would was a bit sad.

She wanted to bring it up herself but aside from being very angry and sad about the incident, the last time she had initiated something, it had led to her almost getting drained out and scolded.

However, she was really glad to have him back and there was no doubt she missed him. Seeing him at the end of the stairs, she had thought her mind was playing tricks on her but he was really there.

Jael watched Mauve stare at him oddly as he washed himself clean. It was impossible to get a read on what she was thinking.

As much as he wanted them to spend the rest of the night and definitely the whole day together, duty called.

He was away from the castle for almost three nights, that’s more than enough time for his work to pile knee-high.

There was also the fact that the guests were willing to put off the second meal for a couple of minutes so he could join them. This was probably Haney’s idea.

The last thing he wanted to do was deal with was more work. He already dealt with one and he was still dealing with consequences.

He got out of the bath and Mauve’s eyes followed him. He turned away from her, she shouldn’t have that much effect on him simply by staring.

He dried himself and tried to dry his hair too but the water wouldn’t stop dripping. Annoyed, he tossed the towel, not caring where it landed.

He walked to his wardrobe in all his glory and pulled out the first pants he touched, it was brown and a little loose.

He picked up some underwear and wore that first before he put on the pants, he slipped in easily.

He took a white shirt and slipped it over his head, feeling some water wet the shirt but he didn’t care.

He walked to the bed and Mauve blinked as he approached her, he stopped in front of her and stretched out his hand.

She accepted it and he pulled her to her feet, out of the bed. She stumbled onto his chest as she tried to get balance and failed.

Jael felt a stitch in his stomach and he knew it wasn’t just the hunger. "Help me with the ropes," he ordered, pointing to the rope around his neck.

Mauve nodded eagerly and standing on her tiptoes, she stretched out her hand to reach his neck, he bent his head slightly forward to make it easier for her.

Her brows furrowed as she concentrated and Jael watched every line that moved across her face. It was hard to deny how pretty she was, especially with her face all scrunched up like this.

She finished tying the rope around his neck and went on to adjust his hair. Jael thought it was the most adorable thing ever and just stood there with a smile on his face.

"All done," she announced and as she tried to lean back, Jael put his hand around her waist and pressed a loud kiss against her lips.

She smiled and looked down at her feet. He slowly let go of her waist and grabbed her hand. He knew he should probably discuss what had happened before he left but now didn’t seem like the appropriate time.

She leaned against him as they walked out of the room, he led her down the stairs, holding onto her and carefully walking at her pace.

They got to the entrance of the dining hall and the guards greeted him too enthusiastically in his opinion. He simply waved his free hand and walked through the open door.

They were on their feet immediately, a loud echo of, "Sire," reached his ears.

"Welcome back, Your Grace," Haney said as soon as he was close enough. "I hope the trip favored you."

Jael shrugged his shoulders and pulled out a seat for Mauve, "Thank you," she whispered.

Only when he was certain she was comfortably seated did he take a seat. They all followed suit. The members at the table were Mack, Haney, Corbin, and Damon. Erick and Danag were nowhere to be found.

As if his thoughts triggered them, they burst through the door. "Sorry we are late, Sire," Danag said as he stepped closer.

Jael didn’t give a response and Erick just walked to his seat.

"Mauve," Danag called as he approached his seat. "Have you been well?"

She nodded enthusiastically, "Very well. I apologize for not saying it earlier but welcome back and I am glad you got here safely."

"So am I," he smiled at her and took a seat.

"And I am also glad you’re back safely, Lord Erick and Damon."

"I can’t believe you’re making her call you that," Damon snarked.

"What? You should call me that too."

"Yeah right."

"Welcome back, Sire," Corbin said and Jael noticed Mauve adjusted in her seat. This was not a good sign.

"Sire, the fence construction has been progressing properly. At this rate, we might finish in about a month."

"That’s good, Haney. I am counting on you."

"Of course, Sire. I can assure you of the strongest fence ever. You don’t have to worry about anything."

"I am glad I have you in charge of it," Jael said robotically, watching the servants move as they started to serve out meals.

"Sire," Haney called halfway through the food. "Could I have a word after this? There are some things I want to bring to your attention."

Jael tried his very best to keep his face as neutral as possible. He had expected nothing less but considering Haney had said the work was progressing properly, this was a bit disappointing.

"I suppose we could have a meeting in my study. Danag, I suppose you have a report."

"That would be Damon, Sire." Danag corrected him.

Jael almost cussed, even though he was the one who made the changes, considering the vampire was still in every business it was hard to remember he wasn’t the head guard anymore.

"I already spoke to the guards in charge and I do have some good news." Damon responded.

"Good, we can discuss that in the study."

Damon nodded and resumed his meal. Jael turned his attention to Mauve and saw that she barely touched her food.

"Mauve," he called her attention.

She jerked lightly as if she was shocked he was talking to her. She blinked as she stared up at him, clearly confused.

"Your food," he said pointing to her plate. "You barely touched it.

"Oh, I had some snack after the first meal so I am not so hungry."

Jael squinted his eyes, "I see, I’ll tell Herbert to get you something later then."

"No, you don’t have to do that. I am fine," she brought her head lower as she spoke.
