The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 223. Anxious.
Chapter 223: 223. Anxious.
Mauve woke up suddenly and immediately sat upright, holding the cover sheets to her chest. She tried to open her eyes and it felt like someone had poured a handful of sand in them.
She rubbed at them and tried to open them again. It didn’t make much difference and she was left blinking rapidly to try to combat the uncomfortable feeling.
"You’re awake," Jael said and Mauve raised her head to look at him.
He was standing a couple of feet away from the bed. He was barefoot, the only item of clothing on his body was a pair of pants and the towel around his neck.
It was obvious he just took a bath. The tub was still in the room and she could visibly see water drip down his black hair. The weight of the water made his hair fall down the sides of his face making it look longer than usual.
Mauve nodded at his words and tried to keep her eyes glued to his face even though her eyes kept straying.
"You can sleep some more if you like, you had a rough night," he smirked.
He lifted the side of the towel on his neck and placed it on his head, shaking it vigorously as he tried to dry the water.
Mauve glared at him. "And whose fault is that?"
He walked closer to the bed, still drying his hair. He lifted a knee and placed it on the bed. He leaned forward, resting his hands on his bed as he moved closer to her.
Mauve moved back a little, his face was barely inches from her.
"I take full responsibility," he said and smirked.
Mauve could tell he was in a good mood. She wondered if she had something to do with it.
"That’s not enough. You’re not the one who has to walk around sore all day."
He smiled an actual smile instead of his usual smirk. "Nobody said you have to move around. You can stay in bed all day if you want."
"Why would I want to do that?" She said and threw her legs out the side of the bed. Was he even listening to her at all?
Jael sighed and pulled back. "It doesn’t have to be all day, just enough for you not to feel tired."
Mauve forced out a smile, she didn’t have to snap at him like that, he just wanted her to get some rest. However, she felt anxious, she couldn’t explain why. She didn’t feel any different than usual, just worried.
"I am not that tired," she tried again.
"Are you saying you could have handled another?" He smirked.
"Banish the thought," she replied and stood to her feet, wrapping the cover sheets around her. It felt heavy but there was no way she would strut around naked.
He raised his eyebrow at her choice of clothing but he did not say anything about it, instead, his face turned serious. "Lord Garth should arrive before lunch."
Mauve’s expression fell, she had completely forgotten. "Does that mean I really have to stay in all day?" she asked in horror.
It wasn’t that she particularly did anything outside her room aside from seeing the garden and maybe the library but she knew would not be able to handle more restrictions.
"What? No," he replied with a stern expression
He went round the bed and stopped in front of her. "You don’t have to do that," he replied, touching her cheek.
She nodded and leaned into his hand on her cheek. He frowned and pulled her in his arms, cover sheets and all. "Are you okay?"
She nodded as she buried her face in his chest. Maybe she might need that rest after all. His cold chest against her face was more relieving than she thought.
"Do you feel tired? Are you sure you won’t stay in bed?"
"No," she yelled.
"Okay," he said and rocked her. She wrapped her arms around him and pushed her face against his chest.
"Feeling better?" He asked as she pulled away from him.
"I am fine," she pouted. The squeeze was just what she needed but she wasn’t about to tell him that.
"That’s good," he said and brushed lots of hair from her face. She could tell she had bed hair.
"I wanted to tell you," he continued. "I would discuss the reconstruction of the fence with Garth when he arrives. Depending on how the conversation goes, well, it will certainly go fine."
Mauve looked up at him with bright eyes and a huge smile. "You will really rebuild the fence?"
"I told you I will consider the idea," he replied.
"Yeah but that doesn’t even say anything. It doesn’t mean you will do it."
"I wouldn’t have told you I would consider it if I had no plan to do it."
She raised a brow, "Does that mean I should always take it as a yes?" She asked.
"Maybe," he replied and she smacked his hand. "On that note, the physician is living tonight."
"Huh?" Mauve asked with wide eyes.
Jael frowned, "Why are you surprised? Wasn’t that what you wanted?"
"Still, it just seems sudden. You seemed angry that he wanted to leave," she mumbled.
"I wasn’t, I already told you why I was angry."
She blushed slightly as she remembered his words. He was just messing around, right? "Is he aware?" She asked, changing the subject as she did not want to dwell on it.
"He doesn’t need to be," Jael replied nonchalantly.
Mauve squinted her eyes at him. How was he effortlessly annoying? Mauve sighed, all that mattered was the physician got to leave.
"Thank you," she mumbled and looked down at her feet.
He was annoying, confusing, and a pain in the rear but she could not deny he was considerate about her requests.
"You can show me how grateful you are," he muttered.
Mauve jerked her head up to see him smirking down at her. For a second, she had forgotten who he was. "I am going to my room," she muttered, walking past him. She could hear his chuckle.
