Chapter 164. Eager Puppy (VS)

Chapter 164: 164. Eager Puppy (VS)

Sunrise came slower than she expected even sleeping for most of the night didn’t speed it up. Mauve sat upright as she stared around. Bedridden with nothing to do was starting to drive her nuts.

The door opened and Mill returned with the bath water. Mill walked to the bed and tried to lift Mauve out of it but she stopped Mill by putting her hand out.

"You know I can walk right?" She mumbled and threw her legs over the side.

It’s one thing for Jael to treat her like a child, but that’s as far as she was willing to let it go.

"Well then let me help you to the bath," Mill said as she stared at Mauve she looked quite adamant.

Before she could protest the vampire grabbed her arm and slowly began to lead her to the bathtub.

Mauve soaked as Mill washed her clean and then dried her up. With the towel around her chest, Mill led her to the bed and dressed her. Mill wore her another flowing dress.

She neither complained nor whined about the dress. How could she? As hideous as it was, it was a pretty comfortable dress.

"Thank you," Mauve said with a smile.

"You’re welcome," Mill said brightly.

Mauve pushed herself from the bed and stood up. Mill immediately looked horrified, she grabbed her uninjured arm and put her back in a sitting position.

"What are you doing?" She asked.

Mauve frowned, "I am going to Jael’s room. He said I can spend the day with him." She mumbled.

"Yes, Sire did. However, Sire also said I should not let you go by yourself. So, you wait!" She scolded, pointing her index finger at Mauve as she said to wait.

"I still can’t believe you got out of bed by yourself yesterday morning," Mill said with a loud sigh as she settled on the seat opposite her.

"I am sorry for worrying you," she said, remembering how agitated Mill had looked when she burst into Jael’s room. She had been so worried she forgot her manners

"It’s fine, I am just glad it is none of the things I imagined. So, I am not taking my eyes off you in case you try something crazy again."

"I promise I won’t, you don’t have to stay up for me."

Mill squinted her eyes at her. "The sun just rose, I am sure I can stay awake for another couple of hours. I can wait here."

"Okay," Mauve said and started to adjust.

Mill was by her side in an instant. She helped her move from the edge of the bed so her back was resting on the headboard.

"Thank you," she replied.

"You don’t have to thank me for every little thing," Mill said and sat on the edge of the bed.

She stretched out her hand and brushed the hair from the side of Mauve’s face.

"Okay?" Mill asked with a grin.

"But you don’t have to take care of me," Mauve said and bent her head.

"Enough with that! Just focus on getting better."

Mauve nodded, "Do you know when we will be able to go back home?" She asked, staring up and Mill’s face.

"As soon as you are better we will, so don’t worry about anything else."

Mauve nodded but she couldn’t help the crushing weight that they were all here because of her. She was being an inconvenience. She hoped she would get better soon enough.

She opened her mouth to say something and the door opened. Jael walked in wearing a shirt and pants. His hair was hand run as usual. Their eyes met as soon as he walked in and he smiled, Mauve blushed immediately.

Mill was on her feet like a lightning bolt. "Your Grace," she said with a low bow.

"Oh, Mill. Thank you for watching her." He said and glanced in her direction.

Mauve visibly saw Mill swell and she bent her head even lower. "It was no problem, Sire. You don’t have to thank me."

Jael was already looking away from Mill as she walked to where Mauve sat. He poked his head into the line of sight as soon as he got close enough. His eyes scanned her face and Mauve immediately looked away at the intensity of his face.

"Your face has color," he said casually as he pulled back.

Mauve resisted the urge to snap at him. Of course, her face has color. He was literally in her personal space.

"Want to go with me?" He asked with a raised brow.

She nodded a little too fast in her opinion. She felt like an eager puppy. She couldn’t comprehend why she was a little embarrassed.

"Is that all for today?" He asked Mill. "Is there anything that is needed?"

Mill shook her head, "No, not that I know of."

He frowned at her choice of words but didn’t say anything. Instead, he bent forward and picked Mauve out of the bed like she weighed nothing. He stood to his full height and Mauve looked everywhere except his face.

He chuckled slightly and started walking toward the door. Mill opened it and held it open for him to go through.

"Ah, yes Mill. Tell the servants to bring up bath water for me." He said as he briefly stopped in front of the open door.

"Of course, Sire. I will tell them immediately."

Jael grunted his response but he was already walking away. He briskly walked to his room with her sitting in his arms as stiffly as she could.

He got to the room and carefully placed her on the bed. He placed her head on the pillow and adjusted the covers around her.

The room was brighter than the last time she was here. She couldn’t see the corner but at least she could see the interior of the room.

There was a couch not far from the bed but it was closer to the wardrobe. It seemed out of place just being in the corner of the room but Mauve didn’t think much about it.

"She frowned, "You are not joining me?" She asked when he just sat by the edge of the bed after tucking her in.
