Chapter 684 Imperial Decree
Chapter 684: Chapter 684 Imperial Decree
"Zhong Niangyao was telling the truth," she did not mean to make Nolan Deye happy.
Seeing Nolan Chenlang for the first time, she knew he was a born emperor. Once he ascended the throne, he would bring Lai Country to unprecedented heights.
This must also be the grand spectacle the Master wished to witness!
After hearing Zhong Niangyao’s words, Nolan Deye was ecstatic.
It took a while before he calmed down and finally spoke, "I will soon proclaim Chenlang as Crown Prince and will personally tutor him on how to be a proper king."
After hearing Nolan Deye’s words, Zhong Niangyao nodded and looked at him with a hint more of admiration and agreement in her eyes.
Many people lose themselves upon ascending this supreme position. The sense of power and authority can be intoxicating, and once enjoyed, it is hard to let go. Throughout history, numerous fathers and sons turned against each other over the throne.
However, Nolan Deye was a magnanimous monarch, already grooming his successor, never fearing the loss of his power.
Thinking about it, Zhong Niangyao took out two brocade bags and handed them to Nolan Deye, "Give these two brocade bags to Prince Qin, to be opened only when absolutely necessary."
Receiving the brocade bags from Zhong Niangyao, Nolan Deye couldn’t help but ask, "What’s inside—?"
"Simply give them to him." Zhong Niangyao didn’t explain further, "It’s very important for him."
After Zhong Niangyao’s statement, Nolan Deye didn’t pursue the matter and silently accepted the brocade bags.
He was aware of Zhong Niangyao’s capabilities.
The fact that Niangyao brought out the brocade bags today meant that Chenlang would indeed face life-changing challenges in the future; otherwise, Niangyao wouldn’t have handed those things over.
With official matters concluded, Zhong Niangyao had no intention of staying longer. She took Lu Yichen’s hand and left the Imperial Study.
Soon after, Nolan Deye summoned all seven of his sons.
Just before, all the princes had been merely sitting in the side hall next to the Imperial Study. Since the Emperor hadn’t dismissed them yet, they didn’t dare to leave or act on their own.
Even now, with the situation somewhat settled, they couldn’t afford to show their dissatisfaction or anger.
Other than the participants, no one knew exactly what had been discussed.
But as the seven princes emerged, each displayed different expressions—some rejoiced while others grieved. The unhappiest one among them, however, was Nolan Chenyu.
A distraught Nolan Chenyu returned to Prince Yu Mansion. The bright yellow Imperial Decree in his hand was strikingly conspicuous.
Han An was anxiously waiting in the mansion. Even after her master’s harsh declarations yesterday, disavowing all ties, a flicker of hope lingered in her heart. What if things could still change?
However, seeing the way Nolan Chenyu returned, any lingering hope in her shattered, and she secretly resented Zhong Niangyao’s ruthlessness.
"My Prince, you’re back," Han An approached, speaking gingerly.
Nolan Chenyu dismissed all the servants.
Now, only the couple remained in the spacious living room.
A nervous Han An stepped forward, asking carefully, "My Prince, what has happened?"
"Han An, you must be very pleased now!"
This time, Nolan Chenyu no longer masked his disdain when he looked at Han An; it was plainly visible, "I had not realized your scheming was so profound. It seems I had underestimated you before!"
While Han An knew Nolan Chenyu’s so-called sincerity toward her was questionable, his blatant disdain still stung her, "My Prince, I don’t understand what you’re saying. True, the master refused to listen to me, but it’s not solely my fault!"
Back then, she did betray her master. But the one who ultimately caused the master’s death wasn’t her; she didn’t have the power. Ultimately, it was the Royal Family that forced the master to act.
"Humph, whether or not you’ve truly severed ties with the State Preceptor, only you know," Nolan Chenyu snorted, "Did you make a deal with the State Preceptor? Did you betray me?"
"My Prince, what are you implying?" Han An’s voice choked, "I’ve been wholeheartedly devoted to you; how could I possibly betray you?"
"Wholeheartedly?" Nolan Chenyu scoffed, tossing the Imperial Decree into Han An’s arms, "Take a good look for yourself; this is your so-called ’wholeheartedness.’ If you’ve truly fallen out with the State Preceptor, then why has she garnered this decree for you? Don’t you find your words laughable?"
The meaning behind Nolan Chenyu’s actions confused Han An. She opened the Imperial Decree with a puzzled look. Reading the contents, her pupils dilated briefly with joy, but her expression remained calm, even slightly aggrieved.
"My Prince, I truly had no knowledge of this. The master indeed expelled me from her sect."
She hadn’t expected her master to secure such a decree for her. She didn’t know why her master had done this, but regardless, the decree was beneficial for her.
She knew that the master had completely cut ties with her, reducing her from a disciple to an obscure orphan. Even her only skill, divination, had been taken back by her master.
Today, after Nolan Chenyu had visited the palace, she tentatively attempted divination, grasping at a sliver of hope. Yet, she realized she couldn’t even recall how to perform divination. No matter how hard she tried to remember, she came up empty-handed.
She had to accept a harsh reality: she was now completely without advantages. She was genuinely worried that any day now, Noble Princess Consort Wan and the Prince might strip her of her Princess Consort title.
Now with this Imperial Decree, she truly feared nothing. Regardless of what happened in the future, even if Nolan Chenyu learned she had lost her divining abilities, she could securely maintain her position as Princess Consort Yu.
However, she couldn’t show her joy, for she sensed Nolan Chenyu’s fury.
